My father's side of the family is from Wales my last name is Powell. I have heard this is from a ancient line of king of wales not sure if this is right or not said the name wasn't Powell originally it was something I could not pronounce. Later on though it became AP Howell then later the A and H were dropped to become Powell. If anyone has knowledge on this let me know I am American so yeah not sure about history over there.
Hello my brother. I'm from greece and here we really love this kind of musik ( especialy in the north greece). I really enjoy your song and i would like to thank you for keeping this tradintion.
This little pipe does have a really good volume. Much more so than I would have expected before I built it. The bore is about 3/4 inch and I made the reed harder because I am used to playing GHB with higher pressure...so I think that helps with the volume. Also I thined down the horn as much as possible to allow it to resonate better, I think this contributes greatly to the volume in the lower register as well.
Thanks for the info. I never heard of that before...I assumed I was just doing something silly that hadn't been done lol. I need to rename this vid :)
Thank you :) I have never heard these pipes in real life until I built my first pibgorn. Using river cane reeds (unstable in the presence of high moisture) led me to make a bellows blown set. I'm probably playing these tunes wrong...but It's what I could find i sheet music form :)
Yes, I think they were originally mouth blown. Actually from what I've read on them, there have been only the pibgorn (hornpipe with no bag and no drone) found. This isn't to say that they did not exist...their just aren't any historical specimens as far as I know. Yscolan said that in glamorganshire bellows blown pipes were known as pibe megin...this leads me to believe that I am not an innovater :)
Hi Chadd, Longtime, no Emails ! Are you still stationed in Korea ? I see you have made good progress on your Pibgorn (+Bag&Bellows)!
I still think Elder is the way to go.
If you need any I have it growing at my house here in Carmel Valley I'll trade some for a Hwang Piri, I think that's one of the larger sizes ? Good Work ! I'm glad to see you kept at it ! Your Correspondent, Sean Folsom

Amazing, the sound of this bagpipe resembles slavonic bagpipes... even the Sackpipa comes to my mind while I hear it.
Is the first tune an An Dro?

Nice pipes. Who was the maker? And do you find that using bellows keeps the reed from flattening inconveniently at the six-finger note?

i forgot to say what a lovely tone you have on them too. 'pibe megin' bellows pipes were called in glamorganshire in the early ninteenth century

Hey Chadd !!! Long time no Emails, are you still stationed in Korea ?
I see you've made great progress on Pibgorns !
I still think Elder is better for the Body of it (and the Reed). The "Pits & Valleys" created by knocking out the Pith, modifies
the tone to something toward the "easy listening" side of the "scale".
If you need some Elder, I have it growing
on the side of my Cabin, here in Carmel Valley. I'll trade it to you for a larger size Korean (Hwang ?)Piri.
