I guess as I get older, and this gets older, I realize that this probably is the greatest science fiction story ever told. Parts of it give me chills.
3:28 ... That cold, and at the same time, benevolent smile, saying 'everything is going to be allright" is just marvelous... I just can't decide what character I would like to be, Bowman, or The Monolith.
Awesome buddy. Extraordinary taste on the choice of imagery and music. Beautiful movie... beautiful scenes... and the "Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov" is in my opinion, the most beautiful and wonderful ship ever depicted in a sci fi movie. Just marvelous. Is the kind of things for which i would love to still have the Soviet Union arround. They were the only capable and crazy enough to make something of that magnitude. Regards! ;)
@billybobhortons It goes back to 2001, central to the entire four part series is a black monolith which seems to serve as a communication device between man and the higher intelligence behind the design of all things in existence. But then in actuality the monolith doesn't really communicate with humanity, rather spurs evolution. It's a rather complicated story line and watching the movie is hard to understand without reading the books.
@SR71ABCD Actually, properly speaking, the Babylon 5 ship known as an Omega Destroyer looks a lot like this one... after all this movie far preceeded Babylon 5...
03/10/2011 People today think that two Suns in the sky is a big surprise! The Elites told us in advance! This film was released in 1984! Good Morning America!
I watched 2010 last night after beeing blown away by 2001 last week. What a piece of shit. What happened? Nohing. No answers. Nothing. The emporer has no clothes! They went up there to find out what happend ffs! Fuck im pissed.
I re-watched this movie last night after not having seen it in many years. It holds up well after all these years. It's not anywhere near as remarkable as its predecessor 2001, but it's an entertaining movie nonetheless.
And btw, I first saw this movie way back when it played in theaters in 1984. I'm glad I experienced it on the big screen.
Not!, this is exactly what is going to happen in 2012, everyone will start to get freaked by around sept "12, and Halloween will come, nothing happened, Christmas, nothing, boxing day, nothing, new years eve, nothing. And sooner than we know it, were in 2013. And fuck all happened. There's been thousands of doomsday "prophcies" throught history. And guess what, were still here. Its all a load of crap.

IF GOD WANTS US HE CAN HAVE US ITS GOD'S DECISION WHEN THE WORLD IS GOING TO END AND PEOPLE GO IN HEAVEN BUT SOME GO IN HELL TOO.
@BillyandBarry I respect your opinion...but 2001 clearly had a plot and characters..and as far as the monkeys that was genius...you obviously missed the point
@enaler1001 it had hal, that's it. that's the only good or genius thing about it. the monkey scene was able to be understood, but had really nothing to do with the rest of the movie. I didn't miss the point. The only story in it was hal, other than that it was landscape, shit floating in space, and a fun time with our good pal LSD
@BillyandBarry Yes because your opinion is just bad...its like saying spiderman 3 is better than 2...or the new star wars trilogy is better than the original.
@enaler1001 hahaha! star wars new trilogy is as crappy as the old one. It's just impossible to be crappier. This, on the other hand, is an exploration about conciousness, reason, life, nature, experience and existence, it questions the meaning of 'natural' and to which point has any meaning to make a difference between artificial and natural. star wars on the other hand, is more in the tone of a mexican telenovela, set among brighteous and noisy speckles intended for mentally retarded...
@enaler1001 It's the kind of sociological/economico-political incoherent crap that would make W. Gibson feel nauseated. It hijacks the visual aesthetic of sci-fi, and maybe it's sci-fi... who knows... it's just a matter of definition, but anyway... still shit... and the fact that millons of flys eats shit, doesn't make shit tasty.
@leocmen clearly, because it had monkeys dicking around and shit floating in space, it is a masterpiece. It has Hal, that's it. Other than that, it's comparable to diarhea
@BillyandBarry This movie is a piece of art. In terms of pioneering is unquestionably the father of all who came after him. "Dawn of the man" is placed at the beginning of the film, a great way to illustrate the extra-terrestrial influence on human evolution, when the first time, an irrational living being discovers a tool, and learn how to use it. And the monolith once again influence the evolution, providing self-consciousness and will, to HAL, a machine ... Superb.
@leocmen it inspired people. whoopdie fucking doo. that doesn't make it any better or worse.
even kubrick himself said the movie was absolutely meaningless, and people are just reading into it too deep. the dawn of man thing makes some sense, but it's to drawn out and overdone.
@BillyandBarry Try to look with fresh eyes: That's the beauty of 2001, escapes the sameness, escapes from teaching, being an open work (in the best expression of the term, as advocated by Mr. Uberto Ecco). Plastically, is perfect, and far ahead of his time, not to mention the concern of the director, and express loyalty to the empty space with no sound, no slapstick artificial gravity, just loneliness. Cinema, need something to flee the sameness, and 2001 is that.
@BillyandBarry haushuashush, Now I understand what you like! You need well explained films, textbooks telling the story as it is, telling who are the good guys, who are the bad guys, and what is the moral of the story (maybe some drawings and diagrams.). In fact 2001 is not for you! Perhaps you will like the childish star wars. That is Ok, we need to respect diversity.
@leocmen no, i like movies with... STORY. CHARACTERS. You're saying because I see the movie the same way the director sees it, I need obvious stories that tells me everything, and that I'm childish.
My favorite movies include:
Citizen Kane
The Wall
A Clockwork Orange
None of those movies are anything like what you describe here.
Awesome composition and excellent clip. Brilliant work indeed. Do you have other compositions like this one? If i had your talen, I would have created a compilation and share it to every major torrent tracker.
Nice video montage....and as far as the movie. I just wish the director would go back and make the jupiter cloud effects more contemporary and realistic and improve the sunflare effects when you see them. Also cleanup some of the compositing artifacts of spaceship in space. It should be a new directors cut with digital space scene enhancements. In my dreams I guess. I would reby the dvd if they did that.
What a beautiful video! It makes me feel happy as I watch; like anything is possible; like something wonderful is about to happen. Thank you for creating this!
Still, look at what we DO have, that wasn't predicted. We have the internet, we have computers like the one in front of you, we have smart phones and designs for space elevators being drawn up centuries ahead of Clarke's predictions.
These effects are amazingly good for physical spaceship models and film-based blue screening. This was about the pinnacle of those older methods, before everything went to computer graphics. It's more advanced than, say, Return of the Jedi, where you could still see some black outlines and so on.
Well, like any fictional work, it all is a parallel universe. Heck, none of the four books, or even the two movies, take place in quite in the same universe as each other (which is inevitable when separated by so many years).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I do apologize for my rude comment. I did not realize that you do not come from an English-speaking country. Typically, when I see writing like that, it comes from my fellow stupid ignorant Americans.
My second comment stands, illicit drug use is one of the main reasons why the world still sucks.
@Ulansananelan Ah yes the drug addict that wants his drug to be legal now. Now there's really something pathetic to fight for in life, more crap to shoot, sniff inhale inside your body and a direct line to your brain, bravo the addict! Whether booze, tobacco or drugs it's all the same no-life shit. Why don't you try life without all that shit? Eh? Never thought about that uh?
Why the heck am I still driving a 93' camry and burning fossil fuels then??? At least we have ufo's buzzing like never before.. and that's kinda exciting.
Not quite. In a scene where Dr. Floyd stands in the doorway of his son's bedroom, you see a poster on the wall showing an olympic runner. umm... i don't really understand scientific things but the lighty and shiny and glowy things looked cool, they were colerful! And ummm... Merry Christmas!
Sorry to change the subject but this is space-related.
To see a partial summary of the clear evidence that the Apollo moon missions were faked, google "The Naked Scientists". In the "New Theories" section of the forum there's a thread entitled "Did We Land on the Moon?". The summary is on page 15. It's the 7th one from the top.
Once people have seen the hoax evidence, there's nothing anyone can do to make them believe we went to the moon.
Blade Runner. I know, they're not the same category of sci-fi but it opened new doors for science fiction movies. I've been reading sci-fi since I was 8 and still haven't seen a "real" sci-fi movie. But that's just according to my little opinions.
Can you send me a link or something, so i can download the song, you really did the good job about the song. Just send a message to my account if you have a link.
does Propellerheads Reason 4.0 come with pre made loops and sound samples you use to mix together or is this from a electric keyboard? how long have you been using the program?
Hi mate, sorry for the delay replying to you but I'm in Australia at the moment and only getting online every now and then.
Reason 4.0 comes with two extensive soundbanks with loads of loops in Rex 2 format as well as a wide variety of samples and patches for the synths and samplers.
You can also use sample packs or refills from third party sources, and there are loads of those both free and commercial.
you can import .wavs and soundfonts into the two soft samplers.
Music is feeling and energy transformed into sound. A positive energy from one human can influence all the others who listen to it. It can raise a mans spirit.
I guess as I get older, and this gets older, I realize that this probably is the greatest science fiction story ever told. Parts of it give me chills.

Also, do a YouTube search on "MarsFaker".

This is very nice. It would have been cool to hear, "My God, it's full of stars" as well. Thank you for sharing!

I love this film It's not as good as 2001, but honestly ,name one science fiction movie that is.

Blade Runner. I know, they're not the same category of sci-fi but it opened new doors for science fiction movies. I've been reading sci-fi since I was 8 and still haven't seen a "real" sci-fi movie. But that's just according to my little opinions.

This movie doesn't look as polished as 2001.

How sad that in the end, Dr Chandria loses the will to live after leaving HAL. Presumably SAL was lost.

I loved 2001 but this movie was awful. They didn't even use flat screen monitors on the Discovery ! Shame.

Here's a trivia fact. Zarathustra, as in the music actually means Enigma in Russian.

Its good, very different from 2001, but still worth seeing for sure.

Good movie. It's no 2001, but what movie is? I'd say 2010 is one of the better sci-fi films of the 80s.

The music is much different from the Blue Danube in the 2001.

does Propellerheads Reason 4.0 come with pre made loops and sound samples you use to mix together or is this from a electric keyboard? how long have you been using the program?
hexlock 2 years ago
Hi mate, sorry for the delay replying to you but I'm in Australia at the moment and only getting online every now and then.
Reason 4.0 comes with two extensive soundbanks with loads of loops in Rex 2 format as well as a wide variety of samples and patches for the synths and samplers.
You can also use sample packs or refills from third party sources, and there are loads of those both free and commercial.
you can import .wavs and soundfonts into the two soft samplers.
Using Reason since 2001.

Music is feeling and energy transformed into sound. A positive energy from one human can influence all the others who listen to it. It can raise a mans spirit.
