  • love

  • This is what got him banned from this country.

  • This is so well played... So beautiful ...

  • how can you dislike this video? : s

  • how prophetic

  • Greatest actor of all time - that's Charles Spencer Chaplin. What a great amount of talent.Unbeatable. Simply that.

  • This is a very, although very true message, literal reference to Nazi Germany´s policy.

  • I will watch this video as often as as I can.

  • Tears!

  • The guy at the beginning looks like M. Bison from Street Fighter.

  • Comment removed

  • @noseyparka13 No it isn't. That adds absolutely nothing to the feel and strength of the message here. It makes it worse.

  • Damn guys, quit jerking off to this old Zionist Socialist one-world-government propaganda...after all, you can get 70 years newer propaganda messages in anything that comes out of Holy-wood these days chock full of the whole "global warming/gay rights/we-are-owed-entitlements" spiel. Let's get a hooray for Cultural Marxism.

  • @raney875 yeah, cause when I see this, I think zionist and government propaganda. this is very zionist.

  • @raney875 You don't actually believe that do you?

  • @colinmcom14 Look up: Cultural Marxism, Frankfurt School, who owns/controls Hollywood, views of Sigmund Freud among others of his 'inclination' on traditional European society, what 60% of Congress has in common with less than 3% of the rest of the US population (and I'm not referring to their money), what Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Lloyd Blankfein, the majority of Wall Street banking tycoons all have in common, the attack on USS Liberty... Above is an early example of Zionist propaganda.

  • @raney875 GTFO.

  • @colinmcom14 Damn, your response is irrefutable. I bow to your master-debating.

  • @raney875 Seriously though, how does a message for peace and advancement through science turn into a Gay, Jewish, Communist, one world government plot. Is everyone else who saw this missing something, are you some sort of governement insider with need to know intel? Come on.

  • @colinmcom14 Did you look the rest up or latch on to only one item mentioned because you happened to have learned a little about Frankfurt school last semester in class? The Frankfurt school was founded by Jewish thinkers. The Feminist movement, a Jewish thinker. Communism and Bolshevik Rev. Pretty much ALL of the movements for nearly two-hundred years have been started by Jewish thinkers. The push to eliminate Christianity/welcome all others. The push to make homosexuality a 'lifestyle'

  • @raney875 instead of a disorder which was treated up 'til sometime after the mid-1950s. Watch for 'reconsidering' pedophilia, they are working on that right now. (Seriously) The lift on immigration restrictions in Europe, US, Canada, Australia, all in the name of a utopia that looks more than a little like Cultural Marxism. The break down of the family, with the garbage all over television and film helping to do so. Why is almost all major news media written/ broadcast owned by Jewish people?

  • @raney875 Why would Jews push to make homosexuality a lifestyle?, it's not a lifestyle or a lifechoice really, people don't choose to be gay, they're just born that way. And unless they're extremists, I'm pretty sure most Jews don't want to eliminate Christianity.

  • @colinmcom14 : Did it ever occur to you that you are exactly the kind of machine-hearted men Chaplin speaks about?

  • @Schokokranz Well, does my pacemaker count as a "machine heart"? ; ) (Seriously though, you were joking right?)

  • @raney875 you clearly have no clue what your talking about, maybe if you read the Frankfurt school on popular culture then you would see how ridiculous your claims on them controlling hollywood are.

  • @almanacofsleep I'm not saying the Frankfurt school controls Hollywood, I'm saying the same tribe that started Hollywood also started the FS and has an instinctive revulsion of all things traditionally European, which is why you see all of the really neat-o things that have made America and Europe 'better' in the last...oh, say, century or so.

  • @raney875 Frankfurt school started in germany in the 1920s, they didn't move to america until 1935 and they heavily criticised Hollywood, I don't see how they are of the same "tribe"?

  • @almanacofsleep Here's your Frankfurt school.... /watch?v=hh2DdJLycPM

  • Wow this si a great movie, I wish hitler could have come to this realization. Unfortunately in real life the opposite happened.

  • This video is a pill for me. Once a week, that's all it takes. Once a week and you'll live so much better.

  • If only somebody had listened...

  • @oddysseus2 you did now go do something

  • Charles Chaplin and Hitler have same bad day in their childhood, but, they have completly different life. So, Human 'will' is most important! ^^

  • 1:49 - ten seconds of a man saying nothing, yet it's so telling.

  • @tehbertl Sometimes silence is the loudest scream.

  • The World still need you Great speech. R.I.P Charles Chaplin ^^!! Viva Chaplin!

  • Two people are unloved and unnatural.

  • So nite complete and receptive creation of chaplin that greatness in him was so unique

  • The GREATEST speech I ever heard in a movie PERIOD. Chaplin was a true genius.

  • @danpfd greatest speech ever, PERIOD!

  • @solomoniadotcom Who are you responding too?

  • This speech is more true today than it was back then.

  • you must it's our only hope..."hope"

  • Wiki: Charlie Chaplin

Although Chaplin had his major successes in the United States and was a resident from 1914 to 1953, he always maintained a neutral nationalistic stance. During the era of McCarthyism, Chaplin was accused of "un-American activities" as a suspected communist and J. Edgar Hoover, who had instructed the FBI to keep extensive secret files on him, tried to end his United States residency.

No wonder.. he was a true socialist in his heart.

  • @CnCKane But he was speaking against socialism in this speech I feel...especialy National SOCIALISM (nazis), the brother of Communism. Why do you think Communists and Nazis were first Allies? We have been led to believe by teachers, whom themselves are socialists, that the Nazis and Commies HATED eachother with the fire of a thousand suns....not true...they were allies and brothers in peace until Hitler decided to expand east towards Moscow. You have the biggest arguments with your family.

  • @EmptyBottleTherapies Communists and Nazi's are nothing alike. Nazi's were fascists who lived in a classed society with a clear upper class middle class and lower class. Everything was privatized even the military. The Nazi party was funded by capitalists like the other fascist nations. Spain, Nationalists (Fascists funded by Nazi German, Italy and US capitalists) fought Republicans (Socialists, communists and Anarchists funded by the Soviet Union).

  • @EmptyBottleTherapies But while you point out it was national SOCIALISM I should remind you it was created by a locksmith in Munich Germany who chose the term socialist to describe wealth distribution from the Jews to the Aryans. In fact they attempted to change the title multiple times to remove socialism from it but it never occurred. Adolf Hitler himself wished to remove socialism from the title because he did not wish association with a so called jewish ideology like communism and Marxism.

  • @CrackCityRocker1211 "wealth distribution from the Jews to the Aryans."

Exactly, it was "The German Workers' Party" before it became the Nazi party. I said they were brothers, not the same. Whether it was Rich to Poor, or Jew to German i was STILL wealth redistribution. You seem to be omitting the fact that while the economy was "private", they took their marching orders from the STATE. The state directed production, and had armed Gestapo on factory floors. Half & Half essentialy.

  • @EmptyBottleTherapies Before it was the Nazi party they had all been members of the right wing militant Fatherland party. You assume all wealth redistribution is a socialist idea, wealth distribution had been an idea long before socialism. The idea before the wealth distribution was nationalism for the German people. Nationalism a right wing ideology. The private sector of Germany did not take marching orders from the State, in fact often times the private sector gave orders.

  • @EmptyBottleTherapies There had been some production lines with armed Gestapo on factory floors but often this was actually due to the fact Germany was rearming and the factory's were being used to produce goods Germany was suppose to be producing.

  • @CrackCityRocker1211 And you seem to be missing the much larger picture here...Both Facisim and Communism/Marxism are totalitarian ideaologies, in practice anyway. The U.S.S.R. and Nazi Germany had identical power when it came to government control, and power. Both methods denied any individual rights,

Both were ruled by dictators who only allowed their own political party, Both used terror to guard their power

  • @EmptyBottleTherapies Marxism is not a totalitarian ideology and in no means will it ever be. It is an economic policy, the USSR happened to have Joseph Stalin take power after the death of Lenin and he made it totalitarian. It was not totalitarian due to the fact it was communist. Communism wishes the end goal of a classless society, fascism and Nazism are a classed society. They are very different in practice and theory, they both simply used the same means for control.

  • @CrackCityRocker1211 AND In communism, the state is the custodian of everything and it is the state that owns everything. On the other hand, in Fascism, the state has control over everything.

In simple words, Communism means state ownership and fascism means state control.

The further you go on the "right" the less government/regulation you have, Anarchy is the extreme right. How does smaller and smaller government as you go "right" on the scale all of a sudden warp into total control???

  • @EmptyBottleTherapies The farther "right" you go less government interference does not occur and I have no clue where citizens of the United States go this idea. The right wing has authoritarian regimes on it. Any side of the political scale can be authoritarian. Often times right wing governments advocate large involvements with the average citizen in order to establish a large sense of national pride in them. Numerous times throughout history this has occurred and it still occurs.

  • @CrackCityRocker1211, "Communism wishes the end goal of a classless society" maybe in theory. I understand your point, but in reality, communism is a sistem where a few powerful men, dominate and control the minds and incomes of an entire population. probably Lenin had a better understanding of lidearship than Stalin, but in general, most communist leaders think like Stalin. Look at Fidel Castro. I can name many more like him. Democracy still give you choices. communism is not up to you.

  • @mandingocaribe I agree with that. It is always a shame communism gets so close then someone snatches it into a dictatorship. Personally I prefer democratic socialism.

  • @mandingocaribe You said: "I understand your point, but in reality, communism is a sistem where a few powerful men, dominate and control the minds and incomes of an entire population. " That describes the current state of capitalism PERFECTLY. (Except for the misspelling of system.) Communism and capitalism both fail miserably. Chaplin wasn't describing communism. He was describing Anarchy after the initial phase dies down ( where people go ape shit with unfettered freedom.)

  • @dafremen; I was more referring to democracy, than wild capitalism. to be frank; I don´t think communism ever had a chance. any system run by man, will have its dark side. at least in democracy I have a few choices, and is not up to one man, to determine the entire nation future. I understand that no system is perfect, but most of the world, had decided that even rotten capitalism, is better than rotten communism.

  • @mandingocaribe some might argue democracy merely gives you the illusion of choices. Politicians are, at the end of the day, still politicians. We vote them in, and they hole themselves up in D.C. and seem to forget about the people who put them there. Just my opinion.

    Great speech either way.

  • @peachesandlily, I think you are right. politicians are gonna always be politicians. their are good speakers, who dont care about people at all. the good thing about democracy, is that at least, you can pick or choose a moron. In communism, you will have the same politician, but without your consent.

  • @mandingocaribe well said, can't really argue with you there. First intelligent, rational conversation on youtube. It's a shame that political theory can't stand up against our greedy reality.

  • @EmptyBottleTherapies Perhaps you do not know history well if you are under the impression that the teachers are socialists. The United States had McCarthyism, it is hard to even find a real socialist in the United States. If anything you have been brainwashed not anyone else. It is much like George Orwell, one of the greatest writers for democratic socialism has been used in the United States to prove a hate of socialism even though he wrote his books for democratic socialism.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • The greatest scene in the history of movies.....period.

  • This video is art itself.

  • audio INCREDIBOL!! THANXS!!

  • You must speak.

    I can't.

    :P

  • La película es genial. Me hubiese gustado un buen comentario sobre los aspecto formales del film, eso es más importante en la obra de arte. Lo que pensó Chaplin después, la política y la historia es secundario, pero no deja de ser valioso como imformación.

  • How do U.S. republicans, democrats and pro "good governance" leaders in the world + their flocks of sheep would call Chaplin for this speech?

    A= Populist, Communist, yadda yadda.

  • Beautifull speech..too bad the world is even worse today..

  • Really? As I recall during the War years around 60 million people lost their lives...

  • There are far more people losing their lives today, more than you know of, remember Garbage, ie-the media.

Since this movie was made in 1940, the worse hadn't happened yet, and from what I read about it, Chaplin did it more like a critique to how Americans were, before Germany would even start.

I wish people stopped being so blind when things happen in their face.

  • More than 60 million?

  • over the last years, I am sure millions have lost their lives. If it excedes that number I don't know, neither can anyone affirm the opposite, besides, Chaplin made this movie in 1940, ie-when the worse hadn't happened yet, not nearly 6 million had died yet.

What I can tell you is that it doesn't haven't to excede that number, that one life lost is one too many and there's a better movie for people who ask such questions like you: Dr.Strangelove

  • It's hard to quantify life, but I take issue with people say the world is worse than it was back in the '40s. This world is better than that one because there isn't a giant war going on that turns people into meat in a grinder.

  • I won't say you are completely wrong, because I do thinkthat things are much better in many ways than they were 40 years ago, but they are worse in others. Once again we live an economic crisis and in these times fascism is once again rising.

There might not be a world war with france, usa, germany involved, if you only count western countries and western people as human beings, but there are many other wars in the middle east, africa, wars threatening latin america and millions are dying.

  • Believe me that many people are turned into meat in a grinder but in other ways, like said, if you don't consider people outside the west to be human beings, that's another topic, but that it is happening it is, much more than media tells you. You should watch Dr. Strangelove, because perhaps a satire about some million lives, and not surpassing the ones lost in the holocaust might give you a grasp of reality.

  • I've seen Dr. Strangelove and my grasp on reality is still tentative at best.

Is there anything else I can do to help myself become fully aware of the situation?

  • Chaplin later said that if he had known quite how bad what the Nazis had done was at the time, (in terms of the mass-murder, the concentration camps and their general crimes against humanity) he might not have made the film the way he did.

  • I'm sure that's the case. It's hard to make light of Hitler knowing everything. Classic film! And yes, most people probably think Chaplin adopted Hitler's moustache!

  • depends how you look at it

  • Man, what a movie! Herr Garbitsch, lol! The sign of the Double Cross, lol! A classic if ever there was one!

  • Charles Chaplin is the greatest filmmaking genius of all time. Writer, actor, music composer, producer, director...phenomenal talent and his films are timeless. They blow away today's lame attempts at comedy and they are very moving as well. Great movie, The Great Dictator (Hitler stole Chaplin's mustache BTW, Chaplin had it first). As for this quote from John, however...it sounds like humanistic, do-gooder talk. Man is sinful and needs to ask the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive him.

  • "Who is this funny little man who looks like Charlie Chaplin?" sang a song at the time.

  • I'm 15 and i want to know more about old movies. But what is this movie about?

  • JJKid93... The movie "The Great Dictator" is, in a nutshell, a satire on Nazi Germany. Instead of Germany the nation is Tomania. And instead of Hitler the dictator's name is Hynkel. Chaplin plays both Hynkel and a poor Jewish barber living in the ghetto. The barber and Hynkel look very similar to each other. Towards the end of the movie when he makes this speach the barber had been mistaken for Hynkel.

  • @JJKId93 This movie was written by Chaplin as a parody of Nazi Germany.

  • More than 2 million children have died as a direct result of armed conflict over the last decade.

More than three times that number, at least 6 million children, have been permanently disabled or seriously injured.

More than 1 million have been orphaned or separated from their families.

Between 8,000 and 10,000 children are killed or maimed by landmines every year.

923 million people are hungry. Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes--one child every five seconds.

  • See why the powers that be tried to destroy Chaplin, and pretty much did. What a profoundly amazing man. What a mind. A talent.

  • I have never in my life seen something so profound. Every word in this speech is true and to the point. Is it worth it to die for a better world? America's founding fathers regretted that war was the cost of their freedom. I am not sure if it can be done without a price. Would people be willing to chose if they could, a better world? The words spoken in this clip are truer to today the ever were. Some say all it takes is one person to stand. Do we wait for that one person?

  • There's no such thing are republicans and democrats. It's smoke and mirrors. That's entertainment.

  • what's surprising about this film is that it was made before we knew what Hitler was doing to the jews, the gypsies, the homosexuals, actors, and more.

  • what's surprising about this is that some communists were able to see what kind of role Hitler and the NSDAP would play for the whole world.

The rest of the world, especially Great Britain and the USA simply closed their eyes.

Trotzki predicted a world war in 1939 while the USA waited till they were directly attacked.

They all didn't want to know about gypsies, homosexuals, commies, jews, political opponents and so on.

  • Ahippi-- but the democrats with their fairness doctrine , control over the radio waves , never bothered you though . that isn't an infringement on freedom. you are full of crap

  • If onky the real Hitler had been like this, the world would have been so different.

  • This isn't Hitler (or even Chaplin's stand in for Hitler.) It's the Jewish Barber who is mistaken for the Dictator and forced to the microphone.

  • @MrRobertSama na, he would just be killed like all others that want a different world.

  • @MrRobertSama this wasn't "Hitler" talking. This was a Jewish barber who was mistaken for "Hitler".

  • @ComradeSlice Im quite aware of that, I was making a comparison.

  • How about if Charlie Chaplin had been in charge instead of the diseased genocidal fruitcake he was making fun of.

  • hahaha herr garbitsch...

  • Quel grandeur dans ce message !

  • As we've seen in a previous essay the parallels between Nazi Germany and the Bush administration are striking. Bush's creeping police state is being ushered in through exactly the same means that Hitler used to overpower the German people. Along with the attacks of his brutal Gestapo thugs, Hitler achieved ultimate success when he got the people to spy and inform on one another.

  • And you think a liberal socialistic government under Hillary or Obama is gonna be any better??

  • I have been writing of this cancer which is the cause of our dying Republic for years -- long before the attack upon American Sovereignty, traced to 9-11, which jostled some sleeping "munchkins" to a state of partial awareness so that their fears might be exploited, and their rights stripped away.

  • I wonder if those Nazis in the L.A.P.D SEEN this movie also.

  • Looks like Mr Bush never saw this movie.

  • yes indeed, he might have been 2 drunken when in the cinema

  • ...in the name of *actual* democracy, let us all unite... none of these fake democracies so common lately :(

  • ... in the name of DEMOCRACY, LET US ALL UNITE!!!
