All of you people are the freaking source of every problem in the media. Because of you the History Channel mainly talks about psychics. Your thirst for political power turns every station into a horse race about polls instead of ideas. Soon, your children will take over and every new movie, song, commercial, and TV show will have Justin Bieber.
@ThePelicans44 This is not a liberal/conservative issue. When everything the public hears is driven by the dollar, there can be no objective and independent media, PARTICULARLY if only six corporations control all 400 channels. Media consolidation is bad for public awareness of current issues. We get "moderatized" pablum from the associated press.
In 1983, 50 corporations controlled the vast majority of all news media in the U.S. At the time, Ben Bagdikian was called "alarmist" for pointing this out in his book. My how things changed and so QUICKLY thanks to GOP/right wing extremist crooks. By 1992 , fewer than 24 HUGE CORPORATIONS owned and operated over 90% of the mass media. I am looking for even more recent numbers. It's gotten much worse. If you have an opinion, corporate, FASCIST MASTERS just don't give a shit!
Last time I checked, about five or six corporations (SCOTUS has said they are 'people') own every large or major media outlet in the U.S. I recall LOCALLY OWNED radio stations serving communities from the size of Andrews, TX to NYC. Not only was ownership dispersed, owners were not only required by law but most were willing to provide EQUAL TIME (google: EQUAL TIME provision) to opposing points of view. Not anymore! TRY to get on a CLEAR CHANNEL radio station. Then get back with me!
@sgsfdgfsdfsdfsddf Just four or five corporations own it now. Guess what!!! YOU have NO vote on any corporate board of any corporation of any size. Guess what else! THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK!
Keith Olbermann would be opposed to the fairness doctrine.
Because he'd actually have to for once have people on his show that disagree with him. Its because of the free press, he can make his show 100% bias if he wants. This is a free country.
Mabye the left just needs to start talking about letting workers keep more of their money and people would actually tune in while at work. Only people at work listen to the radio... add it up
Conservatives are afraid of the fairness doctrine because it would interfere not with free speach but with corporate censorships of the media.. They want the news to be censored completely so people only hear one view point.. Their view point.
Why is it radical liberals want to control everything? Legislating free speech really? The market should decide whether a radio show stays on the air NOT the government. Be afraid people the liberals want to silence those who they do not agree with.
@statman29neb Why is that RADICAL RIGHT WINGERS --in fact --CONTROL EVERYTHING? Another clue: the media is owned by just five or six huge corporations? Guess what!!! They DON'T give a shit what you think. You exist for the sole purpose of buying their shit --the products they shill for and the PROPAGANDA they spoon-feed you. Grow up and get a brain!
I have a brain and sometimes I actually use it. That's why at times I agree and other times I don't agree with both sides of the coin. Imagine that... I can think for myself.
@davitodude So what! If you disagreed with FOX, just TRY to explain that position to them. Do you really think they give a shit what you think? Do you really think the five or six huge corporations that own more than 90 percent of the media outlets in the United States GIVES A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK? You are insufferably NAIVE.
This guy underscores the underbelly of America. A fraud, a complete moron. This one celled putz says we need the fairness doctrine, but he has also said this.. quote 'an informed society is essential to a strong democracy. How can this moron be a proponet for an informed democracy, but also want the fairness doctrine enacted? Conservative talk radio is all they have to go up against. You had your chance with Air America. It failed so badly that they now want the Fairness Doctrine as a last effor
Are you people idiots. The Fairness Doctrine is a GOOD thing so that we get different views and investigative reporting again. The media has really hurt America and It's people like Rupert Murdoch that decides on what people should hear. I don't want that old fart deciding what I should listen to.
Wanghobb you come in here guns blazing calling everyone idiots. You're ignorant. You're uneducated. Don't spout off when you don't understand that this is not about fairness, but is all about infringing on our first amendment rights.
You still have a CHOICE to NOT listen to Mr. Murdoch's content if you don't want to...listen to ABC, NBC, CBS or any other biased point of view, that's your CHOICE. Don't let the gov't decide what content is "good for you". This is a failed doctrine from 1949, let it die. BTW, you may be the idiot, as I see that your account has been suspended...hmmmmmm
You are an IDIOT!!!! Are you freaking kidding me??? You have all of the news media outlets and because of a few TRUTH TELLING Radio Talk shows and 1 cable news network, you want to take away Americans right to free speech!! Please do us all a favor and move to Canada!!!!
Dennis is about 5' tall. His wife is way taller. does anyone think she married him for his looks or charisma? or dick length? She's screwing everyone but this dipshit!
Dennis, just tell me when you're gonna be on TV, so I can get me some pussy!
To all of you that is mad at him for wanting this:
He wants it to benefit people like Ron Paul in the big media. Ron would probably have won if there was a fairness doctrine in place.
Also: Yes, a fairness doctrine would stop radio shows from only focus on the right, but thats a small price to pay, to get what is said on those channels in the biggest media. People should hear both sides, because the truth of freedom holds itself, and people will most likely see that :)
It is a blatent attempt to censor the press. The First Amendment states in part: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;. When the Bill of Rights was adopted, there was only written press. Currently the printed press has been joined by the verbal press and the electronic press. You can't censor one without the others being adversly affected
as a liberal, i oppose this, it's silly, we shouldn't regulate private enterprise. I say if people want to listen rush or the conservatives, i say let them, if a liberal talk show host wants to do well, then he needs to be better than them. We wouldn't want conservative late-night would we?
The fairness doctrine doesn't regulate private enterprise. It doesn't force people to stop listening to Rush. All it does is require SOME airtime to present ALL sides of an issue. Rush himself would not present any other view that he normally does, but the radio station would be required to broadcast some time to an opposing viewpoint. I say if they're using publicly owned airwaves, they should have to present all sides of an issue. It's only fair, hence the name.
well, in a way it does stop people from listening to rush, or whomever. see when liberals come on the air, people, in general dont want to listen. you know, like the reason air america went out of business, no one listened because dogmatic, humorless, moralistic liberals are boring. so, for instance, if you stick al franken on the air, on the same station, after rush, people will stop listening at that point! so you would be forcing a private company to lose money.
You clearly don't know what you're talking about. One, Air America did not go out of business, and two, Randi Rhodes is on in Palm Beach, FL, just like Rush. Her show used to follow his on the same station, where she beat him in the ratings consistently. Rush threatened to leave Clear Channel unless they got rid of her, so they did.
I should also point out that since the FCC stopped enforcing the fairness doctrine (which was always upheld by the supreme court), people have had absolutely nothing but conservative talk radio drilled into their heads. Imagine listening to that swill for 22 years. Your brain would turn to mush too. Oh wait, it apparently has already...
RobOntiveros, perhaps the left should try to start their own talk radio network. They could call it something like "Air America."
That way, Americans would make Air America the highest rated talk radio network ever!
Naturally, there is no way that the ratings for this new liberal radio network would be so low that even George "I love facism" Soros would stop funding it! :)
Oh hey, look at this, another person who has no idea what the fairness doctrine is! Who would have thought? You know what I find particularly hilarious? The fact that you guys had 9/10 of talk radio pushing your agenda, and you still got spanked two elections in a row. I guess people aren't as impressionable as you'd hoped...
roboniveros- First off, you liberals have the newspapers, the "big three" networks, NPR, and every cable news network except Fox News--what more do you want? Second, The fairness docrtine was used in the past by FDR, Kennedy, and other Dem Presidents to silence their political opponents.
What? Are you kidding me? Liberals have what? Do have some idea what the Sherman Antitrust Act is, and who stopped enforcing it, allowing media to consolidate many times over, until we have today's situation? 90% of all media is owned by five people, and I guarantee you they're not liberal. Go to theyruledotnet, and you can see who sits on what board, and what else they dabble in. And for Gods sake, stop buying into ridiculous notions of a liberal media.
RobOntiveros, the Sherman Antitrust Act has nothing to do with the fairness doctrine. The fairness doctrine was created when AM radio was the only form of mass media. FM radio existed, but was not yet widespread. There were very few stations to broadcast the news.
Today, we have AM and FM radio, T.V, satelite radio, and the internet--ample room for everyone to express their opinion.
BTW, if the media is not liberal, why did they give Obama a free ride while attacking Sarah Palin?
No one said the Sherman Antitrust Act had anything to do with the Fairness Doctrine. You brought up the phony notion of a liberal media, and I thought I'd let you know that media consolidation happened because Republicans want as little control over the news you see, hear, or read as possible. How many media outlets does Rupert Murdoch own? Fifteen, twenty?
RobOntiveros, did media consolidation prevent Air America from starting up?
How about the fact that Air America failed despite having dump trucks full of far left-wing money to start up with?
Air America failed because America did not want to listen to it. It's all part of the free market place.
Look, just because the media does not worship every word, gesture, and picture of Obama that is released by the White House does not make them biased against dems or Obama.
One, Air America is still up & running (& can lay claim to the #1 progressive talk show in the nation), so it hasn't failed, & two, it was actually started with right wing money. Yes, that's right, do some research & you'll find that it's true. But unlike right wing radio, local stations have to pay for progressive talk. They aren't syndicated by Clear Channel, so that's why they aren't on 600 stations nationwide like Rush. Apparently doing things the old fashioned way is failure in your mind...
RobOntiveros, It is true that Air America is still on the air. However, it is but a mere shadow of what it started out as. For example, what ever happened to the Al Franken Show?
Finally, Rush Limbaugh started out as a poor radio personality who was frequently fired for his political views. He worked hard and eventually succeeded.
As for the "right-wing money funding Air America" stuff, all I have to say is that is absurd. By all means though, prove me wrong!
What do you mean what happened to the Al Franken Show? When he left, he said he did so to run for the Senate in Minnesota. He's now the Senator elect in that state. That's what happened to him...
So, it's only okay for conservatives to work hard and eventually succeed? But when a liberal does it, it needs to be attacked by people like you? That makes sense. I'll bet you didn't know that FOX News lost $100 million a year for five straight years before it made one red cent. I wonder if you would have decried conservative failure because no one wants to watch it...
Air America is a radio company, the #1 progressive show I was referring to is called the Thom Hartmann Program. And there are other companies that broadcast liberal radio programs besides AAR, like On Second Thought, the Jones Radio Network, and Nova M Radio. But keep on displaying your vast knowledge of talk radio, please!
RobOntiveros, so what if there are a few minor left-wing extremist radio shows on talk radio that very few people know that they even exist?
All I know is that America is sick and tired of arrogant liberals talking down to them. That is why conservative commentary shows consistently outperform liberal commentary shows (radio and otherwise) overall in the all-important ratings.
Yeah, and look what it got you. You had all the hate spewing liars in the world on your side trying to convince people not to vote for Obama, and you guys got your asses handed to you, two elections in a row! People aren't stupid, and they aren't buying what you're selling. Not anymore. So, your right wing talk radio can keep its "success", I'm happy that people understand reality and vote accordingly...
The media didn't give Obama a free ride, hence Jeremiah Wright on an endless goddamn loop on my TV for three weeks, while never once was Sarah Palin's pastor mentioned for saying that terrorism is a just punishment on the Jews for turning their back on God, or for saying that America will be punished by God if it keeps down the same path, which is essentially what Wright said. But when an angry black guy says it, oh, look out! He's dangerous! Hypocrites...
RobOntiveros, the media hid the Jeremiah Wright story for as long as they could. It took Shawn Hannity talking about it over and over again on his radio show to finally force the media to talk about Wright.
The same thing happened with the story about John Edwards cheating on his cancer-stricken wife.
As for Sarah Palins pastor and what he "said", all I know is that is hard to top "God D*&@ America."
The media didn't hide anything, they were all over the story as soon as McCain leaked the story to them. You really are naive. And like I said, when an angry black guy says it, look out!
RobOntiveros, that is a lie and you know it. If don't like I just wrote, then prove me wrong.
The media sat on the Wright story for months. I guess it wasn't "newsworthy."
As for the race thing, GET OVER IT! I don't oppose Obama because he's black, I oppose him for the same reason that I oppose Pelosi and Reid--They are all marxists.
Why are you liberals so obsessed with race while us conservatives have developed a "color blind" mind set?
The story was not sat on for months, it was headline news! why would they sit on that? And for the record, I never said anything about Obama's race, but thanks for drawing attention to yourself with that one...
The Fairness Doctrine has nothing to do with equal time, dummy. NOTHING! Try reading sometime instead of listening to morons like Limbaugh, it's rotting what's left of your brain...
For the love of God, read the fairness doctrine. It says absolutely NOTHING about equal time. Presenting all sides of an issue does not require equal time. Just read it. Until then, keep your ridiculous assertions to yourself
Kuchinic is married to a far taller lady that only wants his money and has nothing to do with him other than to get her allowance to give to her boyfriends!
A fairness doctrine. Really?I cannot believe what I am hearing. Liberals want fairness huh? okay lets start by balancing out the mainstream media, highschools, colleges, and congress. Then we can get to the subject of our airwaves. God liberals are a stupid bunch!
Get the fuck outta here. The Universities are bias, why? Because they don't teach silly ass creationism and bible study. What you label as bias, is just straight up and down science and knowledge.
Right wing radio is CONSTANTLY lying and ginning up hate towards the President and liberals.
@Seedofwinter HEAR HEAR....great comment! The U.S. media is a one legged, one armed BANDIT. They get huge amounts of monies from advertisers even as ownership is concentrated among six huge corporations; that's is at least oligopoly, possibly monopoly. All MSM disseminate, propagate and, most egregiously, ENDORSE the official corporate, right wing lies. Restore the Fairness Doctrine and put strict limits on media ownership as had been the case PRIOR to R. Reagan.
@Seedofwinter THANK YOU. About time other liberals get PISSED like me. We need a Fox News equivalent or at least this to get us into a normal reality.
@Seedofwinter What the fuck are you talking about? Did the "progressives" aka Socialists forget that they dominate all other forms of media: Newspapers, magazines, movies, NPR, that annoying little box called television. And they run the federal government, which they spent the last 90+ years co-opting.
I'm sorry, who's got the room to complain? Dumbass.
@ASBSIX Conservatives define STUPID! That explains why every right wing leaning prez has TRAILED every 'liberal leaning' administration in terms of both job growth and GDP growth since WWII. You will find cold, hard STATS, in fact, the GOVT'S own numbers which confirm that at the Census Bureau, the U.S. Commerce Dept - B.E.A, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Consider that the first small breach in the liberal media behemoth came about only because Ronald Reagans FCC repealed the "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987. Funny how the "Fairness Doctrine" doesn't apply to TV, newspapers, magazines or hollywood movies. Only on the radio is the government required to enforce fairness.
Radio Stations would have to start balancing 3 hours of Rush Limbaugh (20 million listeners) with 3 hours of Randi Rhodes (6) listeners.
how about you apply your "fairness doctrine" to a science classroom? ID and Darwinism. Or could it be that its only "unfair" when your not getting your way. you preach fairness and acceptance for a point of view and ideas, but when somebody else says something you don't agree with you'll be the first to ban them from speaking. Because that's what this great country is all about right?.. where else can you do or say whatever you want to,..... as long as your a liberal.
I face many each day who I don't agree with and who don't agree w/ me.I don't kill them.Liberal democrats are raw evil. They are sneaky and without morals.
We say Obama's not ready, you hear racism.
We say save money, you say let's steal it.
We say build our nation, you say build foreign nations. (like throwing food over the heads of starving children to the ones in the back.)
The childish vulgarity is supposed to cover the fact that you don't know what you're talking about? Kusinich didn't support amnesty, he supported humane reasonable immigration reform, as did a majority of Americans. This is a PERFECT example of an issue where the right's domination of talk radio was used to spread lies and affect policy, a public resource accessible ONLY to the far right, that's unAmerican.
Nice try clumbiancowgirl. The right this, the right that.... keep worring about the right while the left leads all those black females into the local planned parenthood to have those black numbers diminished. Yeah you sound like you really know what the fucks going on. Go get some more cheese.
Don't have a clue what you're talking about. It's NOT a "free market," it is a PUBLICALLY OWNED RESOURCE. The airwaves belong to the people, and both sides having equal access is reasonable and sensible...which infuriates the radical right, which can only get its lies across in a world without equal time for both sides. If stations gave time to progressive views, if someone could question the hate and lies of Limbaugh and O'Reilly, they'd be in deep trouble.
Conservatives have no need to fear the fairness doctrine now that we know that no one takes the blow hards on GOP radio seriously. If they did, Mccain would not have been nominated and Obama would not be president. I too listen to the GOP blowhards all the time because I like to hear how loony they get and it strenghtens/proves my view that they lie and have no logic. I would like to listen to liberal talk radio host however, there is no commercial radio station that plays them.
The First Amendment was drafted and Ratified in 1791 for the express purpose of protecting the most despicable, vile, disgusting and ugly speech known to man. Otherwise, speech doesn't need protection. The Fairness Doctrine is a judicial tool employed by administrative bureaucrats with the express purpose of inhibiting the speech of dissidents. My friends, the Soviets established Gulags for these 'dissidents'. Help me out my friends if I am wrong? Put a muzzle in the mouth of patriots?
You are absolutely dead wrong. It is NOT for the "purpose of inhibiting speech of dissidents" or anyone else. It is WITHOUT Fairness that speech is inhibited, fewer than 5% of hours of talk radio time is liberal. You WANT that side's views inhibited, obviously. This doesn't inhibit anyone, merely equalizes access to a PUBLIC resource.
thats beside the point. he wants to strip one political ideology of their first amendment rights because they differ from his own ideology. Hes a fascist little pig. I would spit in his face if I could. Why does ohio keep voting for this disgrace to freedom
Never heard of the other two. They must be very unsuccessful. And by the way, liberalism didn't win in this election, even though Obama won, but he won by running on a moderate and sometimes conservative agenda. Liberal propositions in states all across the country were voted down. Conservatism still prevails.
Kucinich is a fucking snake. I don't hear him talking about censoring network tv. God forbid one news medium not be a mouth piece for democrats. Wake up people with out the first amendment we ahve nothing!
The "Fairness" Doctrine was brought up by liberals that can't stand the viewpoints from the right and cannot compete in the medium of talk radio, so they resort to the federal government for help. Boo-hoo. They're just upset because they can't motivate an audience. Air America is an excellent example. No one listened to it because it was as interesting and informative as a blank piece of paper. Kucinich and the other clowns in Congress are trying to move this country into socialism.
"Fairness"? How Orwellian can you get? Notice that no Dems are asking for examination of NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, MSNBC, or CNN, not to mention NY Times, LA Times, USA Today, etc. And what about viral videos, not to mention sites and bloggers who buck the system. Get ready for a full on assault on freedom of speech. Don't say it can't happen here. By doing so, you almost assure that it will happen here. You'll be free to say whatever you like, so long as they like what you have to say.
Why is Fairness "Orwellian"? Why is there any need to "examine" credible legitimate news sources? This is NOT an assault on free speech, it is something that belongs to the people NOW being used ONLY by the radical right being accessible to all people. It's not "Orwellian," nor is it an "assault on free speech." It's simple fairness. Would you think it OK if the police only came to Democrats houses? Or the interstates were just for Dems? Why should public airwaves only belong to the right?
Fairness isn't Orwellian. Orwellian is the twisted notion that fairness curbs speech so only one side is represented across the media. Many, like you,are so steeped in & addled by leftist dogma that you can't see how talk radio is only an alternative to ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, NY Times, LA Times, SF Chronicle, USA Today & the rest of the Dem Shill Machine. You can't stand alternative voices, so offending organs must be assimilated. Where are the cries for "fairness" on the outlets above?
Columbia Cowboy Who decides what's fair;you say the people ,but as a matter of practical fact,it'll be the government;you can't see the dangers there?
Americans should be terrified of this idea. I used to joke that if Obama was elected we would all be sent to re-education camps. It doesn't seem so far fetched now.
Kucinich is a fucking fascist who doesn't believe in our 1st amendment.
Thanks for blowing $MILLIONS on you stupid fucking "committee" you fruitcake!
I took a brief look at your profile and you appear to be a Ron Paul guy. If so, good man! R. Paul guys aren't surprised by the banking collapse (a little preview of social security's destiny-maybe healthcare too!) This election, well, let's cut thru the crap ..2 party system..blah blah..I have no choice but McCain. It'll leave a shitty taste in my mouth, but really, no one is votin' for McCain, it's really a referendum on Obie. If Obie gets in, we're meetin' in Montana! bring yer sidearm.
It wasn't criticism. The point was how Bush's coke use was spotlighted in 2K more than Obie's is now. I don't care that they used. Same when they make Bush out to be dumb and Kerry to be smart. Same school, Kerry had lower grades .. McCain is not conservative. He was always disliked by conserv repubs. However, I'd cut my eyes out before I'd vote for Obama, because he is 110% commie. I am 4 tiny gov't. Fannie shows what gov't can do, yet libs want to give them health care???
Of course it involves checking sources, it was a sloppy job, but what part of "PROVEN not biased" is confusing you?
The comment about Bush IS one he would say about any unpopular president. Like the rest of this, the "liberal media" isn't real, it's the perception of people on the far right, imagination.
It's a lie to claim ANYONE, much less every agency, rushed to defend Obama. Simply false. As usual, you want "drill, baby, drill" and ignore conservation, which will never fix the problem.
... more ... I first recognized it during the 2000 election. My kid had a project to report on the election. We bought several weeks of Newsweek, Time, USN&WR. We found about 80 pics of Gore and 2 of Bush (for his collage). The coverage was of course favorable for Gore, neg for Bush, but that aside, an 80-2 pic ratio can't be an accident.
No, I read those magazines through that time and the coverage absolutely was NOT pro-Gore. At all. Had the press been pro-Gore, the LIE that Gore has claimed he "invented the internet" which he NEVER said would have not been around for months, Bush would have been asked real questions about his positions, his experience, his lies.
Gore was VP at the time, him being in the news more than Bush was for a REASON, too.
Whatever .. I know we had a struggle with the project. Lots of magazines, all Gore. Perhaps they had no room to ask Bush questions because of all the articles calling him Hitler? (no, that came later) I remember cocaine use brought up in the 2000 election, over and over, .. but when Obie gets coked up, it's just cute, and he's "relating to young people."
First off, AGAIN, Gore was Vice president so he's going to be in the news more (I'm still very sceptical about those numbers)
His cocaine use (alleged) was NOT brought up "over and over" and the ALLEGED use of Senator Obama (You're STILL using a really insulting name for him, it does NOT help your credibility) has NEVER been seen as "cute." You're absolutely making stuff up out of the clear blue sky, just totally making it up, and thinking it is the message EVERYONE gets.
Try to IMAGINE how little I care. Try to IMAGINE how little it matters.
We're at WAR. Our economy is in horrible shambles. Millions of kids can't get decent health care. The nation's polluted with bigotry and discrimination, more divided than in memory and people are dragging up sleaze like this, attacking his minister...
By the way, if you're worried about "hate church," why no mention of the hate group meeting at Palin's church?
That's the point, no one cares much, it's just cute.
Bigotry? Like .. white man's greed runs a world in need, like .. a world controlled by riiiich whiiite peeeple, like ... I'm White, I'm Entitled. .... not the church for me.
Jeremiah Wright has been spewing hate whites, hate jews, hate America FOR 20 years WHILE OBAMA SAT AND WATCHED! That's who you want for President? You're a fkin NUT!
Lie. Wright NEVER said a thing that was hateful to white people (and the church had many white members) Never said a WORD that was hateful to Jews, or hate America. Yeah, I do want Obama as President, and that the only reason you can come up with to oppose him is vicious lies about the minister in the church he attended is proof positive that there's no REAL reason, nothing based in actual issues or facts, for him not to be, and that's why you're losing next week and Obama will be elected.
Hmmmm. Let me get this right. So you believe, like Reverend Wright, that the U.S. government invented Aids to kill the black man? Read the following: Dr. Wright's sermons are national news now because he was the pastor of presidential candidate Barack Obama. Dr. Wright has asserted that HIV and crack cocaine were government plots aimed at African-Americans.
So you believe this kind of crap? If so, you are an IDIOT!
Again, childish vulgarity and schoolyard insults to cover up for not knowing what you're talking about. I'm certainly not a racist, nor is Rev. Wright. This is what hate radio produces, arrogant rude thugs who are deeply ignorant because lies like this are never challenged. Even the mainstream media never got it right on Jeremiah Wright, liberal views are silenced in this country and a good man slandered unfairly was never defended.
The media is ALREADY licensed by the government, do you not even know that? ALL fairness doctrine does is say both sides get equal access to a PUBLIC resource, which is currently dominated only by one side.
What is preventing liberals from producing their own shows now?
NY Times, AP, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report, US Magazine (any magazine except the Standard and Nat Review actually) , The View, Oprah ........... They are all blatantly promoting Obama. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh are not the only choices out there.
You can keep repeating this laughable, ridiculous myth but it remains absolutely false. NONE of those you mention are promoting any candidate, they're just reporting the facts.
Name for us a single story on NPR that unfairly promoted Obama. Go ahead, where is this "promotion"?
Because hate radio bashes him constantly, they think anyone who DOESN'T is "biased."
Liberals can produce their shows, but they're not heard. BOTH sides should have equal access to the airwaves...a PUBLIC resource.
Well, MSNBC just fired Matthews and Olbermann from election coverage for the fall for blatant bias. Andrea Mitchell-just exposed cutting off the tape on a lady in mid-sentence after she said "McCain couldn't run a business" (rest of sentence - "neither could Obi or Biden") The view, Babawawa called Obie "sexy". Whoopie accused McCain of wanting a return of slavery. Dan Rather-forged documents ... Libs are so blinded by Bush-rage, they cannot see reality. So, why aren't lib shows heard?
NOT fired for "bias," they weren't reporters and most people spouting "liberal bias!" can't tell the difference, don't know enough about journalism. The Mitchell "example" shows no bias as all, and "The View" isn't a news show, either. You don't know anything about journalism.
I'm STILL waiting for an actual example of reporting bias.
And liberal shows aren't heard because the stations won't run them...we need Fairness Doctrine so BOTH sides have access to this PUBLIC resource.
I know this about journalism; People won't listen to shows, or read rags they don't like.
Fairness doctrine enables "the other side", which can't be defined, to request time to respond to comments on whatever show. This is when the people who liked the show the way it was will tune out. Ratings drop, advertisers drop their ads, the show dies. This is all the law will do. Stations will run any show that brings sponsors.
Uh, no, that is NOT knowledge of journalism. US is gossip, not real reporting (calling it a "smear" is a joke, it was nowhere close to the attacks against Hillary, and you haven't shown any of it to be untrue)and print journalism, whether real reporting or gossip mags, are not affected by Fairness Doctrine. It's just for over-the-air (not cable) radio and TV.
The law has NOTHING to do with ratings, this is about something which belongs to the people being used by BOTH sides, not just one.
Please explain "side"? It's not possible to define "side". Who decides what side who is on?
The law has everything to do with ratings. If radio was lib-dominated, there would be no talk of this law.
Truth and bias are not the same. Us headline said "Babies, Lies and Scandal". When the editor was asked "What are the lies?" he said - lies from liberal blogs. So the headline reflected big-time bias as no one could conclude the story was related to left wing blogs from the cover.
It was done very well for decades until Reagan killed Fairness. If you run a conservative show, you have to give time to opposing views, it's really very simple. And the law has NOTHING to do with ratings, at all. And how can you claim with one face that the press is liberal, than admit radio's not "lib-dominated." In fact, liberals believe in fairness and WOULD give opposing voices a fair shot.
And AGAIN...US MAGAZINE IS A JOKE! It's not real journalism...and you've STILL shown no bias.
Except radio, the press is lib. Not totally controlled, but dominated.
More bias:
- Coverage of Jack Abramoff years ago versus NO coverage of Franklin Raines. (Clinton White House Budget Director who made millions running Fannie Mae into the ground and is now an Obama advisor)
- Coverage of Obie's "passport files breach" (press was outraged) versus coverage of Palin email breach (no outrage there, only questions about the illegally obtained emails)
It's not "all around," it's all made up. I don't know where you're listening, but I've heard more about Palin's email (what "outrage" about this you'd expect I don't know) and these are NOT equal stories at all.
Calling a US Senator "Obie" shows an incredible lack of respect...the bias is in you, not the press. Real reporting looks like "bias" to someone who sees the world only one way. There is no "liberal domination." It doesn't exist.
Obie attended a hate church for years, chilled with his domestic terrorist friends, funneled IL funds to a slumlord in return for a discount house, and as a public servant, works for me, so I'm being kind, all things considered.
Lie. There was NOTHING hateful about this church. This is the most disgraceful and dispicable act of this whole sleazy campaign, destruction of a decent man because of racism and gutter politics. Hate church my butt.
Terrorist friends? Now you're just mindlessly parroting Rush Limbaugh BS. Being kind? By repeating sleazy personal attacks instead of dealing with facts of politics? I'm a devout Christian and calling this a "hate church" is offensive and sick.
You are sick cowboy. So it's OK for the minister to say, "Not God Bless America, God Damn America." How often have you heard this in your church? IDIOT!
Did you hear the entire sermon? Or just the same 3 words the far right continued to blast away with? Do you even know what he was talking about?
It's pathetic that a minister of Jesus Christ had his career destroyed for political reasons, and that those who defend him are called names...this is Christian behavior? But the reason it happened, the REAL theme of this sermon, was completely valid, it was about slavery and racism. Do you REALLY think God blesses slavery? Bigotry?
That's why Fairness will NOT apply to print, will NOT apply to cable. If you say something I don't like on radio, you're using something that belongs to ME, and I should have equal access. If you say it on MTV or in print, it's yours, and I have no say in that.
Also, I can start my own paper. I can add 10 more cable channels. You can't just open up a radio station and start broadcasting. They're very different. The internet is EXTREMELY different.
... continued .. oil company bashing and subpoenas for companies that did nothing illegal versus a disatrous collapse of Fannie and Freddie and NO calls for investigation (fan and fred are huge lib donors, run by libs)
If you allow the government to dictate who can say what, when, and where. You invite them to regulate all forms of expression. They will be after the Internet next.
Nobody in the press, in the news, is bashing oil companies. NOBODY. People on whom they REPORT might...and they've called for investigations into Fannie and Freddie...of course, oil companies have been a massive problem for decades, with war and global environmental problems as a result, the mortgage thing is much smaller and broke about 2 weeks ago.
And NO, the government will NOT be after the internet...this proves my point. You just don't get it, don't understand the media. Don't get it.
And it's ALL in the eye of the beholder, conservatives SAY they see it, but never actually prove it.
I'm a big sports fan, and from Oklahoma, and EVERY OSU fan thinks the newspaper in OKC favors the Sooners, and EVERY OU fan thinks they favor the Cowboys. Your own bias makes you see something that isn't really there.
The myth of this bias was created for political benefit, and hats off to them, it's worked great. But that doesn't make it true or real. And it's been very bad for the country.
Headed for the toilet is pushing it but print is struggling, but the notion that the New York Times is "liberal" is beyond laughable, it's the most PERFECT example of this idiotic lie it it's worst. The single most credible respected newspaper in the country gets CONSTANTLY attacked by the Republicans because...it reports truthfully and fairly on their mistakes. So much so that now the paper IS harmed by this lie, meaning ALL of us might lose this source. The lie is harming our nation.

BarclayAvenue 1 year ago
In 1983, 50 corporations controlled the vast majority of all news media in the U.S. At the time, Ben Bagdikian was called "alarmist" for pointing this out in his book. My how things changed and so QUICKLY thanks to GOP/right wing extremist crooks. By 1992 , fewer than 24 HUGE CORPORATIONS owned and operated over 90% of the mass media. I am looking for even more recent numbers. It's gotten much worse. If you have an opinion, corporate, FASCIST MASTERS just don't give a shit!
lennhart 1 year ago 2
Last time I checked, about five or six corporations (SCOTUS has said they are 'people') own every large or major media outlet in the U.S. I recall LOCALLY OWNED radio stations serving communities from the size of Andrews, TX to NYC. Not only was ownership dispersed, owners were not only required by law but most were willing to provide EQUAL TIME (google: EQUAL TIME provision) to opposing points of view. Not anymore! TRY to get on a CLEAR CHANNEL radio station. Then get back with me!

Why is it radical liberals want to control everything? Legislating free speech really? The market should decide whether a radio show stays on the air NOT the government. Be afraid people the liberals want to silence those who they do not agree with.

The First Amendment states in part: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;. as a liberal, i oppose this, it's silly, we shouldn't regulate private enterprise. I say if people want to listen rush or the conservatives, i say let them, if a liberal talk show host wants to do well, then he needs to be better than them. We wouldn't want conservative late-night would we?
la4yerc4ke 3 years ago
The fairness doctrine doesn't regulate private enterprise. It doesn't force people to stop listening to Rush. All it does is require SOME airtime to present ALL sides of an issue. Rush himself would not present any other view that he normally does, but the radio station would be required to broadcast some time to an opposing viewpoint. I say if they're using publicly owned airwaves, they should have to present all sides of an issue. It's only fair, hence the name.
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
well, in a way it does stop people from listening to rush, or whomever. see when liberals come on the air, people, in general dont want to listen. you know, like the reason air america went out of business, no one listened because dogmatic, humorless, moralistic liberals are boring. so, for instance, if you stick al franken on the air, on the same station, after rush, people will stop listening at that point! so you would be forcing a private company to lose money.
ninthave 3 years ago
You clearly don't know what you're talking about. One, Air America did not go out of business, and two, Randi Rhodes is on in Palm Beach, FL, just like Rush. Her show used to follow his on the same station, where she beat him in the ratings consistently. Rush threatened to leave Clear Channel unless they got rid of her, so they did.
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
I should also point out that since the FCC stopped enforcing the fairness doctrine (which was always upheld by the supreme court), people have had absolutely nothing but conservative talk radio drilled into their heads. Imagine listening to that swill for 22 years. Your brain would turn to mush too. Oh wait, it apparently has already...
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, perhaps the left should try to start their own talk radio network. They could call it something like "Air America."
That way, Americans would make Air America the highest rated talk radio network ever!
Naturally, there is no way that the ratings for this new liberal radio network would be so low that even George "I love facism" Soros would stop funding it! :)
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
Oh hey, look at this, another person who has no idea what the fairness doctrine is! Who would have thought? You know what I find particularly hilarious? The fact that you guys had 9/10 of talk radio pushing your agenda, and you still got spanked two elections in a row. I guess people aren't as impressionable as you'd hoped...
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
roboniveros- First off, you liberals have the newspapers, the "big three" networks, NPR, and every cable news network except Fox News--what more do you want? Second, The fairness docrtine was used in the past by FDR, Kennedy, and other Dem Presidents to silence their political opponents.
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, the Sherman Antitrust Act has nothing to do with the fairness doctrine. The fairness doctrine was created when AM radio was the only form of mass media. FM radio existed, but was not yet widespread. There were very few stations to broadcast the news.
Today, we have AM and FM radio, T.V, satelite radio, and the internet--ample room for everyone to express their opinion.
BTW, if the media is not liberal, why did they give Obama a free ride while attacking Sarah Palin?
cowboysarecool 3 years ago 2
No one said the Sherman Antitrust Act had anything to do with the Fairness Doctrine. You brought up the phony notion of a liberal media, and I thought I'd let you know that media consolidation happened because Republicans want as little control over the news you see, hear, or read as possible. How many media outlets does Rupert Murdoch own? Fifteen, twenty?
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, did media consolidation prevent Air America from starting up?
How about the fact that Air America failed despite having dump trucks full of far left-wing money to start up with?
Air America failed because America did not want to listen to it. It's all part of the free market place.
Look, just because the media does not worship every word, gesture, and picture of Obama that is released by the White House does not make them biased against dems or Obama.
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
One, Air America is still up & running (& can lay claim to the #1 progressive talk show in the nation), so it hasn't failed, & two, it was actually started with right wing money. Yes, that's right, do some research & you'll find that it's true. But unlike right wing radio, local stations have to pay for progressive talk. They aren't syndicated by Clear Channel, so that's why they aren't on 600 stations nationwide like Rush. Apparently doing things the old fashioned way is failure in your mind...
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, It is true that Air America is still on the air. However, it is but a mere shadow of what it started out as. For example, what ever happened to the Al Franken Show?
Finally, Rush Limbaugh started out as a poor radio personality who was frequently fired for his political views. He worked hard and eventually succeeded.
As for the "right-wing money funding Air America" stuff, all I have to say is that is absurd. By all means though, prove me wrong!
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
What do you mean what happened to the Al Franken Show? When he left, he said he did so to run for the Senate in Minnesota. He's now the Senator elect in that state. That's what happened to him...
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, just ask Al Frankens interns who worked for him at Air America what they think about him...
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
So, it's only okay for conservatives to work hard and eventually succeed? But when a liberal does it, it needs to be attacked by people like you? That makes sense. I'll bet you didn't know that FOX News lost $100 million a year for five straight years before it made one red cent. I wonder if you would have decried conservative failure because no one wants to watch it...
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, in order for a radio show to be syndicated, there have to be enough people who actually listen to the show.
Yup, unlike socialism, in a capitalist system, things need to be profitable in order to be expanded on.
If Randy Rhoades can get a big enough audience, then her show will be syndicated. Until then, I am waiting for the next blue moon.
Finally, Air America is the #1 "progressive" talk show in the nation because it is the ONLY left-wing talk show in the nation!
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
Air America is a radio company, the #1 progressive show I was referring to is called the Thom Hartmann Program. And there are other companies that broadcast liberal radio programs besides AAR, like On Second Thought, the Jones Radio Network, and Nova M Radio. But keep on displaying your vast knowledge of talk radio, please!
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, so what if there are a few minor left-wing extremist radio shows on talk radio that very few people know that they even exist?
All I know is that America is sick and tired of arrogant liberals talking down to them. That is why conservative commentary shows consistently outperform liberal commentary shows (radio and otherwise) overall in the all-important ratings.
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
Yeah, and look what it got you. You had all the hate spewing liars in the world on your side trying to convince people not to vote for Obama, and you guys got your asses handed to you, two elections in a row! People aren't stupid, and they aren't buying what you're selling. Not anymore. So, your right wing talk radio can keep its "success", I'm happy that people understand reality and vote accordingly...
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
The media didn't give Obama a free ride, hence Jeremiah Wright on an endless goddamn loop on my TV for three weeks, while never once was Sarah Palin's pastor mentioned for saying that terrorism is a just punishment on the Jews for turning their back on God, or for saying that America will be punished by God if it keeps down the same path, which is essentially what Wright said. But when an angry black guy says it, oh, look out! He's dangerous! Hypocrites...
RobOntiveros 3 years ago
RobOntiveros, the media hid the Jeremiah Wright story for as long as they could. It took Shawn Hannity talking about it over and over again on his radio show to finally force the media to talk about Wright.
The same thing happened with the story about John Edwards cheating on his cancer-stricken wife.
As for Sarah Palins pastor and what he "said", all I know is that is hard to top "God D*&@ America."
cowboysarecool 3 years ago
The media didn't hide anything, they were all over the story as soon as McCain leaked the story to them. You really are naive. And like I said, when an angry black guy says it, look out!

Its about forcing a free market to sell things that won't. Moron/liberal.
Minionuup 3 years ago

Tmc39 3 years ago
The First Amendment was drafted and Ratified in 1791 for the express purpose of protecting the most despicable, vile, disgusting and ugly speech known to man. Otherwise, speech doesn't need protection. The Fairness Doctrine is a judicial tool employed by administrative bureaucrats with the express purpose of inhibiting the speech of dissidents. My friends, the Soviets established Gulags for these 'dissidents'. Help me out my friends if I am wrong? Put a muzzle in the mouth of patriots?
swampdonkey5150 3 years ago
You are absolutely dead wrong. It is NOT for the "purpose of inhibiting speech of dissidents" or anyone else. It is WITHOUT Fairness that speech is inhibited, fewer than 5% of hours of talk radio time is liberal. You WANT that side's views inhibited, obviously. This doesn't inhibit anyone, merely equalizes access to a PUBLIC resource.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
thats beside the point. he wants to strip one political ideology of their first amendment rights because they differ from his own ideology. Hes a fascist little pig. I would spit in his face if I could. Why does ohio keep voting for this disgrace to freedom
dan7509 3 years ago
Never heard of the other two. They must be very unsuccessful. And by the way, liberalism didn't win in this election, even though Obama won, but he won by running on a moderate and sometimes conservative agenda. Liberal propositions in states all across the country were voted down. Conservatism still prevails.

Kucinich, you fascist little worm!
A "fairness" doctrine bill might be a good thing in one respect, though.
PBS, NBC and others will be required to have guests with opposing viewpoints for a change.

Kucinich is a fucking snake. I don't hear him talking about censoring network tv. God forbid one news medium not be a mouth piece for democrats. Wake up people with out the first amendment we ahve nothing!

Anybody who thinks government controlling the airwaves to maintain an artificial standard of "fairness" is a good idea is delusional.
mrbriscoe2001 3 years ago
The "Fairness" Doctrine was brought up by liberals that can't stand the viewpoints from the right and cannot compete in the medium of talk radio, so they resort to the federal government for help. Boo-hoo. They're just upset because they can't motivate an audience. Air America is an excellent example. No one listened to it because it was as interesting and informative as a blank piece of paper. Kucinich and the other clowns in Congress are trying to move this country into socialism.
3003BG 3 years ago
Stepper11 3 years ago
Why is Fairness "Orwellian"? Why is there any need to "examine" credible legitimate news sources? This is NOT an assault on free speech, it is something that belongs to the people NOW being used ONLY by the radical right being accessible to all people. It's not "Orwellian," nor is it an "assault on free speech." It's simple fairness. Would you think it OK if the police only came to Democrats houses? Or the interstates were just for Dems? Why should public airwaves only belong to the right?
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Fairness isn't Orwellian. Orwellian is the twisted notion that fairness curbs speech so only one side is represented across the media. Many, like you,are so steeped in & addled by leftist dogma that you can't see how talk radio is only an alternative to ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, NY Times, LA Times, SF Chronicle, USA Today & the rest of the Dem Shill Machine. You can't stand alternative voices, so offending organs must be assimilated. Where are the cries for "fairness" on the outlets above?
Stepper11 3 years ago
Columbia Cowboy Who decides what's fair;you say the people ,but as a matter of practical fact,it'll be the government;you can't see the dangers there?

Americans should be terrified of this idea. I used to joke that if Obama was elected we would all be sent to re-education camps. It doesn't seem so far fetched now.

LKtube1 3 years ago
It wasn't criticism. The point was how Bush's coke use was spotlighted in 2K more than Obie's is now. I don't care that they used. Same when they make Bush out to be dumb and Kerry to be smart. Same school, Kerry had lower grades .. McCain is not conservative. He was always disliked by conserv repubs. However, I'd cut my eyes out before I'd vote for Obama, because he is 110% commie. I am 4 tiny gov't. Fannie shows what gov't can do, yet libs want to give them health care???
LKtube1 3 years ago 2
Of course it involves checking sources, it was a sloppy job, but what part of "PROVEN not biased" is confusing you?
The comment about Bush IS one he would say about any unpopular president. Like the rest of this, the "liberal media" isn't real, it's the perception of people on the far right, imagination.
It's a lie to claim ANYONE, much less every agency, rushed to defend Obama. Simply false. As usual, you want "drill, baby, drill" and ignore conservation, which will never fix the problem.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
LKtube1 3 years ago
No, I read those magazines through that time and the coverage absolutely was NOT pro-Gore. At all. Had the press been pro-Gore, the LIE that Gore has claimed he "invented the internet" which he NEVER said would have not been around for months, Bush would have been asked real questions about his positions, his experience, his lies.
Gore was VP at the time, him being in the news more than Bush was for a REASON, too.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
LKtube1 3 years ago
First off, AGAIN, Gore was Vice president so he's going to be in the news more (I'm still very sceptical about those numbers)
His cocaine use (alleged) was NOT brought up "over and over" and the ALLEGED use of Senator Obama (You're STILL using a really insulting name for him, it does NOT help your credibility) has NEVER been seen as "cute." You're absolutely making stuff up out of the clear blue sky, just totally making it up, and thinking it is the message EVERYONE gets.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
He said he used coke in his book.

ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
That's the point, no one cares much, it's just cute.
Bigotry? Like .. white man's greed runs a world in need, like .. a world controlled by riiiich whiiite peeeple, like ... I'm White, I'm Entitled. .... not the church for me.
LKtube1 3 years ago
Attacking his minister??????
Obama is running for President, right?
Jeremiah Wright has been spewing hate whites, hate jews, hate America FOR 20 years WHILE OBAMA SAT AND WATCHED! That's who you want for President? You're a fkin NUT!
mrcubfan 3 years ago
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
If so, you are an IDIOT!
mrcubfan 3 years ago
Cowgirl. Your a fucking tool moron. Wright is a racist. Like yourself.
Minionuup 3 years ago
Again, childish vulgarity and schoolyard insults to cover up for not knowing what you're talking about. I'm certainly not a racist, nor is Rev. Wright. This is what hate radio produces, arrogant rude thugs who are deeply ignorant because lies like this are never challenged. Even the mainstream media never got it right on Jeremiah Wright, liberal views are silenced in this country and a good man slandered unfairly was never defended.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Read what i wrote you above moron.
Minionuup 3 years ago
The media is ALREADY licensed by the government, do you not even know that? ALL fairness doctrine does is say both sides get equal access to a PUBLIC resource, which is currently dominated only by one side.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
What is preventing liberals from producing their own shows now?
NY Times, AP, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report, US Magazine (any magazine except the Standard and Nat Review actually) , The View, Oprah ........... They are all blatantly promoting Obama. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh are not the only choices out there.
LKtube1 3 years ago
You can keep repeating this laughable, ridiculous myth but it remains absolutely false. NONE of those you mention are promoting any candidate, they're just reporting the facts.
Name for us a single story on NPR that unfairly promoted Obama. Go ahead, where is this "promotion"?
Because hate radio bashes him constantly, they think anyone who DOESN'T is "biased."
Liberals can produce their shows, but they're not heard. BOTH sides should have equal access to the airwaves...a PUBLIC resource.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Well, MSNBC just fired Matthews and Olbermann from election coverage for the fall for blatant bias. Andrea Mitchell-just exposed cutting off the tape on a lady in mid-sentence after she said "McCain couldn't run a business" (rest of sentence - "neither could Obi or Biden") The view, Babawawa called Obie "sexy". Whoopie accused McCain of wanting a return of slavery. Dan Rather-forged documents ... Libs are so blinded by Bush-rage, they cannot see reality. So, why aren't lib shows heard?
LKtube1 3 years ago
NOT fired for "bias," they weren't reporters and most people spouting "liberal bias!" can't tell the difference, don't know enough about journalism. The Mitchell "example" shows no bias as all, and "The View" isn't a news show, either. You don't know anything about journalism.
I'm STILL waiting for an actual example of reporting bias.
And liberal shows aren't heard because the stations won't run them...we need Fairness Doctrine so BOTH sides have access to this PUBLIC resource.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
I know this about journalism; People won't listen to shows, or read rags they don't like.
Fairness doctrine enables "the other side", which can't be defined, to request time to respond to comments on whatever show. This is when the people who liked the show the way it was will tune out. Ratings drop, advertisers drop their ads, the show dies. This is all the law will do. Stations will run any show that brings sponsors.
LKtube1 3 years ago
Uh, no, that is NOT knowledge of journalism. US is gossip, not real reporting (calling it a "smear" is a joke, it was nowhere close to the attacks against Hillary, and you haven't shown any of it to be untrue)and print journalism, whether real reporting or gossip mags, are not affected by Fairness Doctrine. It's just for over-the-air (not cable) radio and TV.
The law has NOTHING to do with ratings, this is about something which belongs to the people being used by BOTH sides, not just one.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Please explain "side"? It's not possible to define "side". Who decides what side who is on?
The law has everything to do with ratings. If radio was lib-dominated, there would be no talk of this law.
Truth and bias are not the same. Us headline said "Babies, Lies and Scandal". When the editor was asked "What are the lies?" he said - lies from liberal blogs. So the headline reflected big-time bias as no one could conclude the story was related to left wing blogs from the cover.
LKtube1 3 years ago
It was done very well for decades until Reagan killed Fairness. If you run a conservative show, you have to give time to opposing views, it's really very simple. And the law has NOTHING to do with ratings, at all. And how can you claim with one face that the press is liberal, than admit radio's not "lib-dominated." In fact, liberals believe in fairness and WOULD give opposing voices a fair shot.
And AGAIN...US MAGAZINE IS A JOKE! It's not real journalism...and you've STILL shown no bias.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Except radio, the press is lib. Not totally controlled, but dominated.
More bias:
- Coverage of Jack Abramoff years ago versus NO coverage of Franklin Raines. (Clinton White House Budget Director who made millions running Fannie Mae into the ground and is now an Obama advisor)
- Coverage of Obie's "passport files breach" (press was outraged) versus coverage of Palin email breach (no outrage there, only questions about the illegally obtained emails)
It's all around you.
LKtube1 3 years ago
It's not "all around," it's all made up. I don't know where you're listening, but I've heard more about Palin's email (what "outrage" about this you'd expect I don't know) and these are NOT equal stories at all.
Calling a US Senator "Obie" shows an incredible lack of respect...the bias is in you, not the press. Real reporting looks like "bias" to someone who sees the world only one way. There is no "liberal domination." It doesn't exist.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Obie attended a hate church for years, chilled with his domestic terrorist friends, funneled IL funds to a slumlord in return for a discount house, and as a public servant, works for me, so I'm being kind, all things considered.
LKtube1 3 years ago
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
You are sick cowboy. So it's OK for the minister to say, "Not God Bless America, God Damn America." How often have you heard this in your church? IDIOT!
mrcubfan 3 years ago
Did you hear the entire sermon? Or just the same 3 words the far right continued to blast away with? Do you even know what he was talking about?
It's pathetic that a minister of Jesus Christ had his career destroyed for political reasons, and that those who defend him are called names...this is Christian behavior? But the reason it happened, the REAL theme of this sermon, was completely valid, it was about slavery and racism. Do you REALLY think God blesses slavery? Bigotry?
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Cowboy, thats not a Christian church that Jeremiah Wright runs, it's a liberal democrat tax exempt political rally disguised as a Christian church.
k3304 3 years ago
That's why Fairness will NOT apply to print, will NOT apply to cable. If you say something I don't like on radio, you're using something that belongs to ME, and I should have equal access. If you say it on MTV or in print, it's yours, and I have no say in that.
Also, I can start my own paper. I can add 10 more cable channels. You can't just open up a radio station and start broadcasting. They're very different. The internet is EXTREMELY different.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Cable and Satellite do not have unlimited bandwidth, though the have a lot, you can't add infinite channels. So why wouldn't they be made "fair?"
You don't have to create a radio station. You need only sponsors to put yer show on a station.
LKtube1 3 years ago
... continued .. oil company bashing and subpoenas for companies that did nothing illegal versus a disatrous collapse of Fannie and Freddie and NO calls for investigation (fan and fred are huge lib donors, run by libs)
If you allow the government to dictate who can say what, when, and where. You invite them to regulate all forms of expression. They will be after the Internet next.
LKtube1 3 years ago
Nobody in the press, in the news, is bashing oil companies. NOBODY. People on whom they REPORT might...and they've called for investigations into Fannie and Freddie...of course, oil companies have been a massive problem for decades, with war and global environmental problems as a result, the mortgage thing is much smaller and broke about 2 weeks ago.
And NO, the government will NOT be after the internet...this proves my point. You just don't get it, don't understand the media. Don't get it.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
I know they try to cloak it, but it's in the questions they ask and the proportionality of topics covered.
LKtube1 3 years ago
And it's ALL in the eye of the beholder, conservatives SAY they see it, but never actually prove it.
I'm a big sports fan, and from Oklahoma, and EVERY OSU fan thinks the newspaper in OKC favors the Sooners, and EVERY OU fan thinks they favor the Cowboys. Your own bias makes you see something that isn't really there.
The myth of this bias was created for political benefit, and hats off to them, it's worked great. But that doesn't make it true or real. And it's been very bad for the country.
ColumbiaCowboy 3 years ago
Well, the more biased they are, the more viewers and subscribers they seem to be losing. Newsweek and NY times are headed for the toilet.
LKtube1 3 years ago
Headed for the toilet is pushing it but print is struggling, but the notion that the New York Times is "liberal" is beyond laughable, it's the most PERFECT example of this idiotic lie it it's worst. The single most credible respected newspaper in the country gets CONSTANTLY attacked by the Republicans because...it reports truthfully and fairly on their mistakes. So much so that now the paper IS harmed by this lie, meaning ALL of us might lose this source. The lie is harming our nation.
