  • Model 2 DOD Overdrive and Model 5 Boss Metal Zone are the best for my styles of playing. I use this pedal through my rig for various styles of rock. The Metal Zone is good for hair metal leads and newer metal. The DOD Overdrive is good for classic rock and bands like 7 Mary 3. The other distortions aren't bad, but you have to EQ it just right. In my rig, I use a Boss Overdrive SD-1, this pedal (DF-7), a Radial Tone Bone Hot British, and my amp distortion to cover a lot of stuff.

  • Very 90's sounding. Blah.

  • dude thank you ive had this pedal for a couple years now and never spent the time to figure out some good sounds. thanks!!!

  • man im looking for distortions like "Born of Osiris","Lamb Of God","Killswitch Engage",and other Death Styles.

do you recommend this pedal for this kinds of sound?

  • @MathewAdlerSJC you should checkout the amptweaker tight metal, its pretty brutal

  • I have this same pedal :D

  • i'm not sure if i should get this or the Digitech Hardwire TL-2

  • @1metallica1 TL-2 is the one to go for, i have both

  • Comment removed

  • Can You Share the config??

  • @chingafaderas It looks like the picture of the configuration is displayed during each configuration he does.

  • How does it sounds on bass?

  • kept waiting to hear something BRUTAL, i have this pedal and you get some awesome panterA sounds

  • this works good with bass 2............is it bad for the bass or anything though?

  • @chingonchingon24 god no

  • @cbappa2 fuck yea! >=D

  • metal zone will always be superior to this imo, I have both but the MT2 is def one of the best if not the best distortion pedals out there, but the DF-7 still rocks.

  • This pedal or BOSS MT2- metal zone?

For something like avenged sevenfold and bullet for my valentine stuff.

  • @Xcelorat0r anyone, it´s basically the same, and with the Digitech you can have more distortions hehe it´s like an advantage

  • is tis good for playing canibal corpse and cream

  • Can this pedal get the same guitar sound as MJ - Beat it, Paradise City, Eye of the tiger, Bonjovi - u give love a bad name, green day - american idiot... etc.

sorry it's just that I'm new to electric guitars since I play acoustics, I just don't want to buy stuff and regret it later.

  • @extrememonaXXX go into a music store and play around with a pedal. most of the time you'll find that although a pedal sounds so much different than Green Day's distortion, as soon as you start playing a green day song the distortion will somehow start to sound like green day with the right EQ. Lol. Just like how all the blues guitarists review metal pedals and amps... they all sound the same when played by blues guitarists Lol but play something of yours and it'll adapt. This is partially true.

  • It's funny that the #1 and #2 can "overdrive" most simulated amp models on the VOx AD50VTXL a little further. Man, I love this pedal!

  • Does it has a Tone Knob?

  • @mewsic156 Tone Knobs are useless. Get yourself a 10-band EQ from MXR :D

  • please for the love of god someone tel me ohow to ut a new damn battery in this thing

  • @screamsofamartyr Seriously, if you can't figure it out all by yourself, you must have IQ of a toddler

  • @screamsofamartyr Read the manual. I'm speaking from experience with the Grunge pedal but on the part you step on in this pedal, there should be two metal silver pieces showing. It's a pin that lets the pedal move up and down in place when kicked on and off. Press both in... and the cap should slip right off. Either that or start unscrewing everything. can't be that hard.

  • HELP ME PLEASE!!! =(

I've never had a pedal so this is my first one. I bought DF-7 yesterday and changed 3 batteries already! It kills them in 4 hours. I played for a hour and then turned my amp off. After 3 hours I turned the amp and pedal on and then...nothing! CLEAN channel=(

It works if new battery connected! Please help me! =(

  • @Unknown8875 when youre not using the pedal, UNPLUG the input cable. Thats what seems to be draining your battery.

  • @ToneFactor Thanks for quick reply! I will try that tomorrow with 4th battery =)

  • @Unknown8875 Yeah, unplugging saved 3 hours of battery life, so I bought an adapter =)

  • @Unknown8875 Or you can buy a DC Voltage Supply.

  • @Unknown8875 -never use batteries for any pedal the best thing is just to buy the adpot!

  • get a power supply. I'm using a digitech Hot Rod - same issue - they munch batteries like their nothin. ps-200r for $17.00 shipped.

  • @Unknown8875 get an adaptor, bro... If ur an avid pedal user, u'd spend more money in buying batteries than buying one good AC adaptor...

  • @Unknown8875 also buy a 9 volt plugin. you can plug it into the pedal and use that instead of the battery so it wont drain

  • clicks on video* reads fender strat clicks off asap!!!! i hate strats

  • @jbulger666 Hate a Strat, and we hate you.

  • @cybertron2006 sorry that i play metal and dnt like strats especialy sine this should me played on a dean ml lmao

  • @cybertron2006 lol how about this thumbs up everbody if u think dean mls can eat strats! ive played live shows bro the strats are hroible and it was a mexican fender strat

  • My favorite is Number 5 , I will never get rid of this pedal <3.

  • I have a question... I own a Digitech RP-90 (multi effects pedal) I'm wondering if I can buy one of these and add it to my setup, and use both I mean (rp90 + Distortion Factory).... could there be any issues? thanks to anyone who answers xP

  • @feenux09 to be honest I think adding this to your rp90 wont have a big negative effect, except a little extra noise, save some noise and get a bigger multiFX - unless youare planning on buying ALL individual stompboxes (which can get very messy, noisy and expensive). I went from an rp50, to a zoom gfx-5, to individual pedals and am now back on multi-fx (pod x3 live). the rp90 probably covers the whole range of this pedal anyway, looks sweet.

  • @feenux09 would work fine mate...just liek linking any other effects pedal up in a rig..lol

  • MT-2 mode on this pedal sounds better than the original.

  • GODZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what about comparing this pedal to the Boss MD-2?? Which do you think sounds better?

  • wehey Blue Oyster Cult ;)

  • @slashnpraise

what about digitech tl 2? the new one?

    any metal pedal suggstion man?

  • @guitarralaraja i personally do not like, other people do. the tl 2is betterthan this but still.. :/

  • What does this mean motherfucker? <3

  • KRSH

  • @ACAkatic47 hahahahahhahha vala bash

  • Only if u know how 2 work n EQ correctly I may add

  • Yea I bought this pedal bout a week ago n it's the 1st digi pedal I played wid n let me tell u this thing sounds solid on the cit mixer plug into a amp I play on both amp plug in n cit plug in so I get totally diffrent sounds out of this lil bad boi don't call it a factory for nothing sure tone is not like the origs but still a killer stomp box

  • Cool!!!!

  • What ppl don't seem to realize is that this pedal is intended to be versatile. Regular distortion pedals can only come up with so many different sounds and keep a particular tone despite whatever settings are used.

    They are limited.

This on the other hand can do many more things. Unfortunately, yes, it does sacrifice some tone, but being able to use this for songwriting instead of having 7 different drive pedals is the key point.

  • Awesomesound

  • You can almost hear the 1s and 0s

  • I use this pedal all the time, ever since i bought it about 2 years ago.

It is simply an amazing pedal.

I have played every gig with it, very reliable. But be sure to buy the adapter, this thing eats your batteries up!

  • played by Adam D.??????? is it the adam d im think of?

  • @ihaveadogandheisfat Good question...

  • how much are these things going for ? quite like one of these. for my soon to be marshall dsl 401

need that bit mroe gain and UMPH!

does it come with an adapter?

  • @mefmef21 about $100

  • hey i guyz i'm n a death metal band who was looking for a pedal not so high priced yet i dont wanna compromise with my sound...what do'u recommend??

  • @vkblueforest boos sucks!! so does death metal! start a true black metal band! anything but death metal only deicide is great!

  • I have this pedal and its really great ,but I have a question. What polarity is the AC adapter ? If someone can tell me it will be really helpful.

  • Look on the back of the pedal and it should tell you. Mine says negative on the pin and positive on the outside. Good luck!

  • this was the first pedal i ever used and still enjoy it to this day and that was five years ago.

  • all about godzilla

  • it looks a little bit like my metalzone used to, before i refinished it

  • i have this pedal. it's amazing. you can pretty much get any distortion you want. if you're a metal freak, like me. you can get amazing metal tones. on distortion model 5.

  • i know this pedal is the best distortion pedal i used.. only thing i dont like about it is it drained one 9v battery in 1minute

  • @xLesPaulGibsonx i use adaptors so i dont have to worry about that

  • @xLesPaulGibsonx same thing happened to a friend of mine. Just use an adaptor man.

  • can someone give me an Orphaned land kinda sound please?

  • could anybody recommend any good settings on this pedal for a bullet for my valentine kinda sound?

  • Which is better in terms of versatility and quality, this or the Vox Satchurator? I'm not sure which to choose cause I wanna buy one...

  • @seyibass:

Vox Satchurator is much more higher quality of sound and more versatile. It also keeps your guitar's tone intact

  • This is actually a rather good pedal, im rating it 4.5/5.... Once you actually really get the right setting. it takes time, but good things come with a price right? The sound that this pedal produce is rather solid, Well, they can be compared to the TL-2 of course... But i'll still prefer this thought TL-2 still do blow my mind away... i've both of them.... But still, DF-7 & TL-2 are both top in my list for Distortion. Afterall its still digitech and they produce awesome stompboxes... CHEERS !

  • Don't get me wrong tho, i don't hate digitech. i love my WH-4 Whammy pedal because of it's glitchiness and odd processing. WH-4 is considered by many to be Digitech's best creation becqause of it's original content, copied by many yes but nothing like the WH-4 XD plus it's used til this dday by hundreds of bands you listen to!!

  • just like boss mega distortion or metal zone

  • false, you can't compare the two, this uses a digital chip. the Boss Distortion, Metal Zone and Metal Core are all analog and dedicate all the tech to one effect so your statement is thereby false. Plus, the Boss distortions create realistic feedback whereas Digitechs are very cloudy and thin sounding =]

  • mine just sundenlly stoped working, im so mad

  • =[ yea, Digitechs do that.

  • i got it fixed, now im happy(: lol

  • sweetness!!

  • @slashnpraise My whammys randomly done that aswell im so pissed off!!

  • Hence "DigiTech."

  • i have this pedal and i think its pretty alright. i've used it live with great success. i mean if your goin for a modern sound this will foot the bill if you want something less then theres other options. but just spend a couple minutes configuring your amp and pedal and you'll eventually find a bunch of sounds your happy with.

  • sigh...kill yourself.

  • Oh good Lord, don't ever do that. The frontman series is possibly the worst set of solid state amps to ever be created. Get a grip dude.

  • dude, it's the only thing i can afford right now, im 12

  • Like christianity, lulz.

  • Nice Demo

  • does it have a noise gate?

  • no, nor is it true bypassed which makes it even more of a worse pedal than previous digitech distortion pedals.

  • i have owned this for five years and never got much out of it, until i watched this video and got some ideas on settings. it's not bad, and it is fun to try various settings-- BUT-- i am gonna get a superfuzz, for sure.

  • nice song, what song is it?

  • $99 US dollars. i still consider this a multi effects pedal not a true single effects pedal. yes it's a deistortion pedal but with 3 MODELED distortions which are overdrive, dual stage distortion and fuzz. to be honest id rather get a pedal that focuses on just one thing and dedicates it's power lp to that one thing. the only thing this pedal has that interest me is the dedicated high, mid and low knobs BUT again, it's digitech which have been kno to have un-responsive bass or mid controls :'(

  • wait are you suggesting i shouldnt get this? is this worth 100$ are there more cons that pros? plz reply

  • i'd recomend the Ibanez Tube King or Visual Sound's Jeckell and Hyde, or Fulltone Fulldrive II. these pedals have good ranges. the digitech distortion factory has an odd fake digital sound and it's not ideal for live/recording situations. If you are looking for an ultra compact over-drive/distortion pedal i'd say go with Ibanez SD-9, Boss BD-2 or even a Fulltone OCD these are tons higher quality than the Distoriton Factory.

  • sux

  • got one today <3

  • 99€

    89$

  • I want know the prize of this pedal in $...!!!!

    Can you help me..??

  • HEY, would this DF-7 fit for my KH120 Randall?

  • The metal master sounds terrible.I thought it would sound awesome.

  • Yeah the metal master sounds like crap on this, but the metal zone sounds pretty decent on it.

  • opposite w/ the real pedals. MT-2 sucks, MM is kick ass. I own both.

  • I had the MM until the battery connector snapped

  • power supply with daisy chain??

  • didn't have the money

  • its actually not very expensive, just a boss power supply which is about 30 bucks and a 20 dollar daisy chain, not so bad but you dont have to waste money on batteries :)

  • True thats pretty much the only one I use.And occasionally the DOD overdive one for blues.

  • metal master allways sound like crap

  • The original MM wasn't bad.

  • The original metal master sounds kick ass. The real one.

  • can you play enter sandman and master of puppets with this?

  • if im into hard stuff, like the band a day to remember,so what should i get.

plus,my dad likes rock n roll and blues,so any suggestions/opinions?

  • Hardwire TL-2 - it's the distortion!

    Mesa in stompbox!

  • nothing like the hardwire series pedals from DigiTech if your looking for distortion to blow away get the TL-2 metal distortion

  • The Boss DS-1 here sounds nothing like the real one. This sounds way more heavy

  • in the sense of making escape the crowd?

  • i have a metal zone and wanna change cos i play punk rock music and this pedal sounds so much sharp. Is this a good option other pedal a good option for me?

  • if you are into punk rock i would suggest getting a mega distortion or a Ds-1: both by boss

  • yo tengo ese pedal.... me costo 500 varos....

no lo se usar aun jajajaja.....alguien tiene un manual????

    I speak spanish only...

  • baja el manual de la pagina de digitech

  • where do you choose models??

  • the knob on the far right selects the model

  • I have a rat and their setting sounds nothing like it...

  • this was my first distortion pedal, but i recommend going onto Boss..

  • digtech is seriously way too new sounding to me.. sounds way to electronical.. same with the line 6 spyder amps.. I personally love boss pedals over anything.. you should check em out if you want a more natural sounding tone

  • dnt know which 1 to get i play in a new metal band, and ive seen the ml-2 by boss, its really good but confused whether the digitech hardwire tl-2 is better can som1 advise me?

  • Comment removed

  • not really, i have a real one, and i can do just about all of this

  • from 3:25 i was completely sold! basically the few pedals that i couldn't decide between are on here :)

  • oh my god it was sexy eh?

  • im thinking of buying this pedal im in a punk band n i use the digitech grunge pedal an awesome pedal but i want other distortions.

  • i have this pedal i love it digitech make good shit and they are built like tanks

  • and buy the metal zone you can`t feel the zone on 15 W amp .... if you have 75 + it`s metal time

  • Just getting to that level on a high Watt amp requires some serious level of volume, depending on how your living it might be an option though...

  • sound like broken amp and very bad cabels but this is form the pedal :D

  • This is a great pedal. In a cover band and nice to be able to get a variety of sounds from blues to metal without having to hall in lots of pedals that take up too much space and use too many batteries.

  • lol the dod250 part sounds like the dirty sample riff that seymour duncan uses

  • I use the Boss DS-1 setting and the Boss Metal zone setting

  • This one is a part of my setup.

  • awsome!..earlier I thought I'd buy metal zone but now I think I'l get this one!!

Did you play only on humb. or on humb+mid.single?............P.S.sorry my english)

  • dont get metal zone i was planing to buy metal zone as well but believe me this one is just awesome way better than metal zone...

  • I just bought this pedal today, i love it.

  • MT-2 METAL SETTING IS THE BETTER SOUND

  • GO GO GODZILLA

  • awesome demo....what pick ups u have on strat?

  • pro co rat ftw

  • great demo

  • oh yeah! I awould also like to mention that i recently had this pedal, but i sold it. if you don't have a good amp or guitar, don't expect magic from the pedal.

  • well if you have a shit ass amp and guitar (like i do) how much can any pedal really do?. i have this pedal and the metalzone setting maes it sound awsome compared to what it is without it.

  • i have a decent amp and a decent guitar and it made it sound like.. :O *boner*

  • I absolutely love this channel and I think what they're doing has been in needed for a very long time. However, I don't understand why they chose a strat to demonstrate this pedal since no metal fanatic would use a single coiled instrument. I realize in certain occasions they would but come on lol....

  • The Strat has a humbucker in the bridge. Plenty of hard rock players used "Super Strats".

  • I apologize for not noticing that. I realize that the strat has been a popular item and I was just curious why you had chosen it for a death metal presentation haha! I hope I didn't sound like a prick or come off offensive because I can't get enough of this channel! It's all done so professionally and is a great resource for those who don't have the ability to try out everything themselves or want a different perspective!

  • It's all good. :) Glad you're enjoying the videos.

  • I bought this pedal a little over a year ago. I am very pleased. The DS-1 mode is actually a little heavier than my actual Boss DS-1 but still a great distortion. Very versatile. I use the TS-9 mode and also the DOD 250 mode as a boost for my Marshall distortion and it sounds great.

  • i have this DF7 i dont know it doesnt sounds good when we are performing in live, i use the Proco Rat and i try many settings also in the amp still not so good..the sound is weak. but in our studio sounds really good/heavy.. :(

  • Ts-9 dosnt sound right but everything else is sweet!

wat songs does he play throughout the song?

  • and by the way #5 the boss metal zone is my fav!

  • ive had one of these since 2007. and i fell in love with it. its very versitile. not only ONE tone. many styles of distortions. great pedal. and a must have!!!

  • I bought one in July,2008!

  • fucky pedal

  • did you mean funky?

  • Nothing like the real RAT! ROCK!
