I find it humorous that so many people have said "I hate country music, but this is awesome." Ben Kweller certainly doesn't hate country music, and shows it by being some of the most true-to-roots alt-country made since the Derailers. It's truly awesome that he chose to dare and make a country album when he was previously involved in a scene that is so hostile to country (but no less great). If you enjoy this, look to The Flying Burrito Brothers and Gram Parsons for more guidance into country.

Yes every talented artist shows progression, but they don't all completely change their genre. I saw him 2 days ago in Houston, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but it definitely wasn't amazing either. I most people can agree that his previous works were of better quality.

It's not about what is better... He decided to go back to his roots and do a country album. Fuck he's from Greenville Tx, and if you've never been there you aren't missing much. I've loved BK since Sha Sha in '02, and I love this. I hate almost all country music, but this is pure gold. I hope he goes back to his old style, but it's definitely not the end of the road for BK.

Fabulous album! My first listen produced horror at the "country" twang he seemed to have picked up--both vocally and musically...BUT then I listened again and realised how perfect the whole thing was. Its a beautiful mixture of old Ben & and an obvious new direction that really suits him. Can't wait to reach the addicted phase where I can't stop playing his album. Highly recommended!
