@DeadSpaceAddict yeah definitely not. but Vipers do have one redeeming feature, their extreme maneuverability. A Viper can literally turn 180 degrees on a dime. Imagine a Viper with Star Wars fighter tech, and well....good luck to all the fighters out there.

@blacksun2175 that's assuming viper's did not have inertial compensators. they most likely did, as the battlestar universe has extensive allusions to artificial gravity. (cylon basestars even used artifical gravity as propulsion, since they lack engine nacelles)

according to the bstar wiki, "The Mark II can rotate 180 degrees vertically in .35 seconds." (Act of Contrition episode)

it turns in .35? LOL human reaction speed is .3 the pilot would be dead because he would have to slow to turn, slowing down in a dogfight means you get shot by your enemy.

That's why that manuvere is made of FAIL.

LOL you "assume"too much buddy, said manuvere is .05 seconds longer than a human needs to pull the trigger. the manuver SLOWS the viper down, it is no longer accelerating but turning rapidly since the engines are obviously propelling the viper in the opposite direction.

LOGICFAIL.

Consider that ties can accelerate @4200g's while the episode "the hand of god" shows that Vipers can only accelerate @7g's The ties would literally fly circles around the vipers, FAIL.

Military equipment tends to go for preformence over efficency, ion engines use less fuel, but don't give out as much thrust as a thermonucuclear and chemical rockets. So chemical and nuclear rockets are better.

@McCbobbish - I was under the impression that ion based propulsion used less fuel because it is so efficient compared to nuclear and matter/anti-matter energy based systems! Apart from proton torpedoes and anti-ship missiles, the Star Wars galaxy uses predominantly energy based weapons. Imperial ships also have shielding against devices like nuclear and chemical weapons; they have have particle deflectors and primary energy shields.

The Battlestar Galactica fight style is way more solid than those flimsy empire ships. The Galactica usually protects its side with a serious barrage of weapon that would shred any cruiser if they didn't have a similar barrage. Vipers might not have lazer guns, but their pilot seem far more agile if you've watched the serie.

I can't really say anything about Galactica, as i haven't seen it, but it would be a serious mistake to underestimate a Star Destroyers broadside. They use those top mounted turret batteries to "glass" planets in an manuever called "base delta zero". the bombardment burns off the atmosphere, boils aways the oceans, and liquifies the ground to a depth of 5 to 15 meters. One ship can render a planet unninhabitable in about a day, or less. As I said, I don't know if Galactica can match that power.

Galactica couldnt match that power, Its weapons use something similar to gunpowder type weapons but it can work in space their main cannons are basically similar to battleship cannons like we have now. Galacticas fighters use fuel can thus limits its time in combat while the tie fighters use solar power. Stardestroyers also have deflectors, not to mention defensive cannons on every axis. I think single broadside would knock out galactica if not destroy it completely.

If Galactica's using solid slug ammunition, then it actually could pose something of a threat to a Star Destroyer, Solid object pass through shields in Star Wars (except for ray shields).

Galactica use railguns, known as KEWs (Kinetic Energy Weapons), firing HE anti-capital shells. Google claims its main batteries are able to deliver an explosive force equivalent to 600 kiloton per volley, and since a Stardestroyer's shield wasn't able to stop an A-wing, practically a kinetic projectile in this case, from crashing into the bridge I think the Galactica could at least dish out some pain to that SD before she went down.

@trueConspiracy due to superior engine and weapon tech yes, in terms of speed and weaponry, but in terms of maneuverability any Star Wars fighter would lose out to the Viper. Vipers can turn 180 degrees on a dime, no SW fighter can match that.

and about winning losing, I think the Vipers would win from the Ties anyway, they can manouver much better and the tie's don't have shields, they only have numbers.

The battle stars however will never win from the Star Destroyers due to the shielding and more heavy weaponry.ending it all with the eventual demise of the Battle Stars

i think u forgot the heavy anti capital ship missile lounchers and HEAVY gaus guns onboard of every battlestar they can easily wipe out the shield generators and than the entire ship (not to mention a battlestar can be bombarded by 5 basestars for a huge amount of time a single star destroyer cannot hold it owen just 5 minutes agains 3 mon calla 80a cruisers)

@Crispypirate nuclear weapons are really inefficient actually. While a nuke may give off huge amounts of energy, most of it is negated as the energy is blown outwards in multiple directions, only some of the energy is directed into the real target. It would be more efficient if a nuke's power could be concentrated in a beam/cone like fashion, ensuring that all of the nuke's power is focused on one spot. example: StarCraft's Terran Battlecruiser's Yamato Cannon.

First, i agree ships with shields beat those without---that said, BSG can overwhelm Star War's fledging shields, but the price and cost would be heavy in terms of destruction and loss of pilots and ships. Over all the Imperials would win.

Ok, read all the comments and I have a few things I would like to say. Doesn't matter if it was made by a star wars or a BSG fan, the technology in starwars is better than that in BSG as they have things like shields and holograms. Normally ships with shields beat ships without them, it's that simple.

If you play starwars battlefront 2 you will see that missiles are stopped by a battlestar's shields.

Make a Stargate one PLEASE!!!

most think that the old battlestars did have shields. BTW TIE fighters are the worst idea for a space fighter in the history of sci fi. not only can they be destroyed by a fart. they have almost no vision except front, and they are not very fast or agile.

Watch it again. All of the BSG ships lose. The vipers get thoroughly spanked by the TIE fighters, even though they are better armed and more manueverable - and then the Galactica heroically ESCAPES. If it was a BSG fan making this the colonials would've taken down at least one Star Destroyer.
