Beautiful job! I have been thinking about doing some of this to make extra money, my bro did that and wound up having a lucrative business from it. Hard to believe this was your first one - everything is very smooth and professional looking! Thanks for sharing.
Not too smart -- always insert an intermediary layer of eg, pure linen (doubled is optimal, with a sheet of raw silk between those two layers), below the leather, so as to abet its breathing in both directions, and that minimizes dry rot, odors and helps with weight bearing ie, shifting occupant weight -- a layer of horse hair proves optimal!
You did an awesome job! I started taking the old cover off of my similar wingback chair last February and have purchased all the materials/fabrics to recover it. How long would you say it took to recover the chair once the old cover was off?
I have a set of that exact chair! I'm glad you made this video, this will make my summer project of reupholstering them much easier! Do you know an approximation of how much yardage of fabric you used? I want to be able to buy something of quality (because I need to sell my chairs after I'm done fixing them).
@BlueToDie I probably used about 6-7 yds. I bought a roll with about 20 yds remaining at a discount so I wasn't conservative on cutting what I needed. Remember that you need to consider the fabric pattern. You can't have some pieces vertical and some horizontal or diagonal. You shoul have a consistent look.

Being in the upholstery trade for over 30 years, i would call this work a re-cover & not reupholstery. Reupholstery is the art of stripping a piece back to it's original frame & virtually starting from scratch. Any form of spring or webbing for that matter should never have direct contact with a piece of foam, you should have at least covered the back springs with a layer of dacron & hessian. This is yet another video that highlights poor workmanship.
okay...im a big diy-er...well im going to make a free standing wingback headboard for my queen bed. i want the sides to look exactly like the sides of the chair including the arms...what i am stumped at is the caps on the arms in the front. how do you make those and how in the world are they attached to the arms??? any info on that would reallllly help me out. :)
Absolutely Stunning to be your first re-upholster project. I've cover dining room chairs before but a wing chair, NEVER !!! I 'd be terrified, this is a job i would totally leave for the pro's.....such as yourself !!!!! lol.....
How did you do the piping on the seat pillow?? That just appeared! Seems the hardest thing to me and the chair I'm considering doing has piping on most of the seams . . .
@nino4100 No. Just a do it yourself fan. Just be careful on taking it apart and take down notes...pictures while you're doing it helps....and watch a lot of similar videos from YouTube. Good luck and have fun
@nino4100 got to work at a chair factory ..lol.. thats where i learned i have done several or these chairs out of my garage .. not real hard . i usually do the flat work all but the wings i usually sew those .

what is so special about all this?maybe, that you payed 10 dollars for the frame?...here you can by nothing for a tenner.for example,i was given quite ordinary glue schenill 200 dollars a meter to recover those peoples 2 wing chairs.
I use YouTube to learn things I'm interested in and that is precisely the reason when I did this, I was taking pictures as I go along so the date on the pictures would show how long it took me. I work on this project after I get home from my regular job and on weekends.
Thanks for your visit and comment. The piping step is at time 2.03 I change the foot on the sewing machine to do the piping process.I used the same fabric and even use the same pipe I removed because it was made of hard plastic. cord If it was just a plain cord, I'll just get a replacement.

@nb342 The fabric was bought on a close out sale. If I have to do it again, I'll just estimate ++, ...you're saving on labor anyways

@nb342 it takes about 5 .5 yrds for this type of chair ... it's called a queen anne .
