@Sahnus yeah u will need to drown the sound in reverb. It largely depends on the sound you're after tho, mine is on almost full because my cover is based on the vanilla sky version taken from the live recording as roskilde. Back then he seemed to have a diff reverb and used more of it and I prefer this to newer versions of the song from the () album etc. If u want the new sound then best to dial down the reverb :)
@SigurWales that sounds like an important thing i almost completely missed lol would you mind if when i get it, and thn have trouble with it then i cud email you on youtube, i would know anyone else that could help realy?
@McleanLibertySG yes it will work with Violin bow, however it sounds better with the Cello IMO, Cellos can go for £20-£40 normally depending how good they are. If you want a really good one then u will have to spend more but if your just using it for a guitar you dont need an expensive one :)
Awesome, sigurwales. I'm not well-versed in guitar lingo, but the "echo feedback" sound is wonderful. Sounds ten times better than both the live and album versions in my opinion. Keep up the good work mate.
@frankieg05 Many thanks, Not sure if its better Than The band versions but a very nice compliment to receive :) The version I have here is based on the one played at Roskilde in 2000 (a very early version) this was also used in the film vanilla sky, the reverb and echo was changed on later versions inclu the one on the () album. I prefer the orig tho which is why I choose the sound for this vid, thanks for listening :)
awesome cover brother. sounds epic. just wondering two things: 1. what effects are you using, and how much of each. 2. what kinds of pick ups do you have / would humbuckers make a difference much?
@ljes thx man :). umm u can use single coils but humbuckers do sound better imo especially if u want to sing into the guitar like Jonsi does. Foundations of the song are reverb and delay, lots of reverb needed.
pernambuco bows are the best to play on the guitar imo, any full size cello bow will do to start with. Cello bows are better than violin bows for guitar use :)
its ok lol most youtube viewers dont read the description or comments properly anyway :) my guitar is a les paul copy altho it sounds and feels just like an epiphone one I used to own. colour is Amber
Hey its Not Hard, the E A D strings are easy enough to hit may take some practice to hit all six but it can be done, I prefer to it an ebow. If you have the money get a sustainer bulit in to your guitar, its basically a built in ebow for all strings :)
GREAT JOB! I'm not even a super big fan. Meaning, I like them, but honestly couldn't name a song. You just made my morning. I'll be listening to Sigur Ros for hours now. Guess I'll have to balance that out with some Slayer this afternoon. Take care!
This is great!, sounds amazing, was thinking of trying myself playing some sigur ros, now a few questions: 1-What kind of bow do you use (violin, viola, cello)? 2-I imagine the reverb is set to a long decay time, how about the delay what is your setting for delay? 3-Any other effect (distortion, compresor-sustainer)? 4-In your Line6 amp, what modeling amp do you use? Again your cover sounds great, and your sound is amazing, must have been hard getting to that sound.
hey thanks, I use cello bow, rhythmic delay is used altho most delays seem ok to me, reverb wise just use lots of it, mild distortion is pretty much the only other effect, clean amp signal with some echo as well :)
u mastered the sound.. so why arent u using a guitar pick it looks like ure barely touching the strings on the riff is that because it sounds better¿?
Its quite hard holding/using a bow and a pick at the same time, so just use thumb and fingers for picking, on the Songs where a bow is not used Jonsi does use a pick :)
Hey man. Great cover. Do you have any recomendations for a delay/ reverb pedal for this sound? I was also wondering what kind of rosin you use. Ive applied rosin to my bows and i still have a problem with the proper friction. Any tips?
Its prob the way your aplying the rosin not the rosin itself, I use hindershine, holt the rosin in your hand upright place the end of the bow on it and grip both with your hand the rub the rosin up and down the bow whilst gripped in your hand, thats how I do it and it works fine (not sure if thats the proper method) otherwise you wont get enough grip and it will sound naff, any delay and reverb should be enough, stand alone reverb is needed tho
Its sounds ok, but its best with an elecro acoustic so you can use effects etc, sounds a bit bland otherwise. The body of an acousic makes it difficult also coz of the flat top so playing is awkward
Line 6 spider amp and dl4 is the only equipment of theirs I use, its Important to remember that 80-90% of jonsi's bow sound is down to the reverb , delay and other effects play a small part :)
Dude metronome get one...even though i can hear the music in the background, sometimes you were out of time man, playing along to songs doesnt always necesarily mean you are in time, get a metronome and work at timing!! but awesome tone
great video! I like this song and this is a very good cover. I got my own cello bow, now I just need to fix my overdrive pedal and get a delay so I can record some video of my cello-bow experiments.
OMG! Fantaic video. really enjoyed it. your awesome. please can you give me feedback on my video`s? and show them to your friends please. Cheers i really appreciate it. see ya! : )
works fine, just use violin rosin or cello rosin if your using a cello bow, cello bow works better than a violin bow imo. You will still get a decent sound with the violin bow =)
thx haha btw it damages the guitar strings like mad though n for me,im usin a ibanez sg series so the body shape doesnt really curve n this makes the bow grind n damage the body :B hey,the price we pay for art haha
theres something about sigur ros, that after you discover them all of the old music you used to play and listen to seems so insignificant. and thats a beautiful guitar.
First guitarist I know to use a bow: Jimmy Page, Led Zep, in 1969 Don't know if anyone used it earlier. Pretty innovative back then. Like the guys who ran guitars through an organ Leslie (rotating speaker horn in a miked cabinet). Harrison (Beatles) used it on some addagio runs- "You Never Give Me Your Money" - Abbey Road, and Eric Clapton's bridge to "Badge", which Harrison wrote. Beach Boys used it first, however.
It's fun to try and stretch out on the guitar playing. Enjoy.
I heard some pretty good versions of this song from others but, this is by far the best version I have heard yet. Great song bro..........I've only been playing the guitar for about 6 months and I can't wait play this song like this. You rock bro..........!
good cover man!!! hey, if u have time please check the one that i just uploaded from my band playing that same song, my effect on the guitar sounds a little different from the one you use..
