I pretty sure I tested this on a G1 with Cupcake, I added a "Mobile Custom" and number "012345"; and it would let me SMS or call this number..

I might be mistaken though..

I tried it again today with 1.5 virgin t-mobile G1, in the contacts-view it let me directly SMS to 3 custom mobile numbers...I'll try it on a Vodafone HTC Magic later today..
