I have a problem I am a novice rower and when try to set boat the oar keeps digging into the water. Even try turning the oar and it still dig. How can i fix this problem is it because my wrist is bending.
@pimpplayer91 There could be many things that is causing this. Although your coach/cox would like to make you think that it is solely your job to set the boat, it is everyone's job. Even the cox can contribute to the unbalance of the boat. If you are not rowing you could sit at your catch and put the oar in between your body and you knees while holding your rigger with your inside hand and by putting your outside hand underneath the end of the handle. :)
this seriously almost happened to me today. we took out an 8, and im a coxswain/rower, but since i was rowing, our novice coxswain took us out, and he wasnt paying attention and hit a bouy, and my handle lifted me out of my foot stretcher, and i caught myself with my legs on starboard side, and body over port side. completely sideways.
haha oh man, this is the safety rowing video i use as a coach... it's the same one i watched when i first started rowing almost 13 years ago... we always rewind and watch this part several times.
omfg this exact thing happened to me 2 days ago. it was the first time any of us had ever seen any 1 ever thrown out of the boat. i didnt catch a crab, but our coxless 4 hit a boat which caught my blade but still, was hilarious!!!
i watched that video! it was hilarious!!! ive never seen that happen...excpet i caught a crab that gave me a concussion one time...so they better warn people about that! ha!
Hey, that actually happend to me when our cox didn't see a pole in the water and I totally crashed into it. It was the end of october and we were doing 1000m pieces. It is actually easier said then done to stay under water when you need air. However, in the end we all had a good laugh about it.
haha CHARLIE!!!! the kid that gets thrown out in this video's name is Charlie... (he ended up being a guy's coach for my team) we all laugh at him for it
ha ha ha i love that idea of someone catching a crab, falling out then getting clobbered by blades and riggers. that would be a really bad training session! I never realised anyone made rowing safety videos, must be fun to watch.
This is the best part in the whole video, but when they were explaining what should be in the lauches, they said you should have a fire extinguisher(sorry, I can't spell) and my team was like 'Why do you need a fire extinguisher on the water?" but my wise crew coach had the answer: In case a rower spontaneously combusts!
So who was it who fell out? How did they do it? Were they like, 'hey you, catch a crab that gets you in the gut and flip yourself over the gunwale. Okay?'
one freshman novice on our team got thrown out of the boat by a crab and didn't stay underwater long enough for the boat to get by. he full on dented a rigger with his head. we gave it to him as a souvenir and now we call him "rigger"
The video isn't new by any means, but those oars are sometimes used in learn to row classes. At least in America we know that "thows" doesn't end like "rows". Mabye you should check it out.
lmfao getting thrown out thats hilarious. yea my feet r still in the shoes all bound up lemme just unstrap them and then let my crap throw me in the water. wow lol
Halfway through I was thinking, this guy really knows how to row, he is just faking the crabs, especially with the camera on him. But faking an ejector crab???? That's method acting!!!!
The guy had to deliberately catch an ejector crab for this video. Props to him...

Feel bad for 2 seat, having to catch all those crabs for the video. Great video if you see the entire thing however.
