Superb, the best interpretation on record. I particularly like the lack of romantic expression. This music has been stripped down to what is essential, so it is such a pity that lesser cellists try to add something the composer has deliberately eliminated. This cellist understands what this music is all about. Very rare indeed.

@BeckyLinda1 I agree. I am not terribly familiar with Webern's music, but with this piece, over-articulation/ornamentatio­n, etc. can really kill the feeling. Compared to the other interpretations of this piece I have heard, this is by far the most superb version.

quelle expressivité dans ces pièces émergeant à peine du silence ...

on voudrait juste qu'Aloys Kontarsky soit encore (molto, molto !!) plus souple, un jeu qui serait davantage "sur le fil" ... encore plus retenu, si c'était possible ...
