well you say they didn't release the soundtrack, how did you get these clear sounds? most of the stuff on youtube was taped off tv and edited, but not too successfully as most had background noise.
With the new show, I hope there will be more of a market for the possibility of releasing this OST. I'd settle for ITunes only at this point. Between this, Gargolyes adn ReBoot, I've never wanted OSTs for a cartoon so badly!

there is an eerie song that has some distinct harpsichord sounds that I take particular interest in. usually this plays when a thundercat is perplexed(like tygra-he's always a truth seeker) I heard it in the "Snarf Takes up the Challenge" when Tygra entered the maze of mirrors with tygra heads and when Lion O called his cats when his sword was "cut off" and the eye didn't work, in "Fireballs of Plundar"?

My bro and I were big fans of Ulpio Minucci's Robotech music. Bernard's songs could even give that soundtrack a run for its money, but it's such bullshit that an album for it has yet to be released in his lifetime. It's almost unethical how Warner handles these copyrights. There's no good reason to leave these musicians' works locked away in a vault for decades, and then get mad at the fans when they try to post it somewhere. Ugh!

Funny thing is, perhaps the most well-known Bernard Hoffer song is one none of us knew about. I just found out he composed the original theme song to the PBS Newshour, recently replaced with a slight remix a few years ago. I love that theme song!
Personally, our best hope is that the new Thundercats show does well enough that a market for niche Thundercats product becomes viable for Warner Brothers. Just because it exists doesn't mean it's releasable. I mean hell, we're going into year four since this petition started in a few months. Thundercats is surprisingly well-preserved and a soundtrack is *possible*, just not *viable* right now.
Our best hope, again, is to rally around the new show to strengthen the franchise as a whole.
What's the name of the quick tune that starts at 3:23 ? I think it's a variation of the main theme but never found it, but I love it. Oh and yeah thundercats soundtrack kicked some major ass.

Have you thought of approaching specialist film score lables like Film Score Monthly or Intrada. They do limited run releases of many scores and might see the value in such a release where WB don't.

I was really excited about having the Thundercats original soundtrack. So I tried to sign the petition... But the petition closed two years ago. Why don't you open it again? I know a lot of people who would love to have this songs and didn't even knew about this petition. If this would be announced again to more people, I'm sure we would have some good results.

Man all 80's cartoons should have soundtracks/scores released!! Namely Thundercats, Mighty orbots, Bionic six and Galaxy rangers... THAT would be epic!!
@vanishy0urself 100 percent yes. We found out about this via the first dvd prints that had episodes with no music just sfx. All the original masters to everything TCATS still exist. The dvds just had the tracks recut together seperatly, even the title screens had masters, those that werent located were omited from the dvd (hence the missing frames).
@Kregermeister it's theoretically possible to subtract audio (in an editing program) of the musicless release from a normal one to get music without sfx/voices. Of course, those wouldn't be FULL THEMES, and it won't sound perfect... but still.
You can also cut out music from different parts where different moments are covered by the voices and choose the voiceless parts.
It's not much, but it's something that's possible to do WITHOUT needing access to the original masters.

@TheSpoofMan3 Great questions dude! Ive re-cut and made a final selection to 80 percent of the audio and slightly re-mastered it. It would need a fine tooth comb to take out the aditional mic hiss, and WB could gladly have all my work free of charge, Id even give them my first born to get this out there.
If Bernie was cool with it, id be down. WB have big legal hammers for leaks, but if they called me and said "we have no plans, share it" that would be great too. They just dont call back lol

I would also snap up a legal release in a heartbeat but after all this time I've lost all expectation or hope now. It's an utter shame since the soundtrack/score work is absolutely amazing and possibly one of the best things about the show.

Just wanted to say thank ypou for this video, brings back so many memories. Too bad I didn't know about the petition sooner, otherwise I would've signed up several times over.
In nay case, I noticed you left out two themes: You left out the them that would play when the Cats were planning or building something (It used a nice guitar in the background), and the second theme was for Hachiman and the Thundercutter...as a matter of fact, it was the first theme but played in an Asian style.
@DNotes06 if i am correct he only has the season 1 soundtrack in which case Hachiman's theme or the twist for him on the theme might not be there. regardless he isn't going to share so not much point.
it is funny because someone had to share it with him for him to get it but oh well. we can just keep searching i guess
@DNotes06 there is also a season 2 theme in episode 90 - vultureman's revenge where the wolo plays the main theme i believe.
also my personal favourite is the one they play when vulture man goes to get a soundstone before the lunatack's notice him. it may be the darkside theme but it is usually played when the lunatacks are involved. too bad it isn't readily available.
Over two years. And has there been any progress, any response? Seemingly not, despite the fact that there's been some effort; take the comics they released some time back.
Meanwhile people champing at the bit for the music are forced to rely on remakes(regardless of quality, it's not the same) and bad, short clips. At this point, one has to consider releasing the damm tracks if only to get a proper rise out of them.
I suspect they are holding out for the new cartoon and possible movie before going ahead with this. Big corporations like to time things together so they can maximize exposure and hence sales. It will happen, but keep fighting for it just the same.
what I dont understand is that WB could just create a link from one of their websites where ppl can buy the music and download it, that would cost them hardly anything to setup and they would make a profit

Its a goal of mine personally to work on anything Thundercats, so at this point I could ace this for you guys and do it not half assed like the dvds that came out!
@Kregermeister I know you have to keep ur promise man, but we all loved this show as much as you did, share what you have man, this show had some incredible music, its a shame to keep it locked away.
Why not help WB organise a fundraiser. Everyone who wants a copy of the soundtrack pay the cost up-front (determined and held by WB). When the target (certain percentage above cost determined by WB, but disclosed from the outset) is met, everyone who paid gets their cd of the soundtracks (seasons 1 + 2). WB can then go on to sell in a wider market knowing that it's been proven to sell. If the target isn't met everyone gets a refund, (WB now knows that the product cannot compete) fair as it gets.
This will never see an official release. Of the many fans this show had in it's day, only a percentage of them are still interested as adults, and of that percentage fewer still are interested in the music. And with music piracy what it is today, only a tiny handful would pay for this. WB would never commission a CD for such a limited interest product. The only way this will ever be released is posthumously.
And as I bear no ill will towards Bernard Hoffer I personally hope it's a long wait.

Kregermeister, the Thundercats OST is the best of any animated series, ever. The amount of work for these orchestral tunes is huge. But its also a very old work and the people who own it don't care anymore. I don't think they will release anything, this means that in the next couple of generations it will become lost and forgotten.
The OST deserves to exist and we all know that the best method of preservation is by thousands of people to have it and not just a couple. I hope you understand

So my Q? is who made Thunder cats, and what can you tell me about him. That's is who oversaw its production, and what was good, bad, ugly about them.

there is an eerie song that has some distinct harpsichord sounds that I take particular interest in. usually this plays when a thundercat is perplexed(like tygra-he's always a truth seeker) I heard it in the "Snarf Takes up the Challenge" when Tygra entered the maze of mirrors with tygra heads and when Lion O called his cats when his sword was "cut off" and the eye didn't work, in "Fireballs of Plundar"?

My bro and I were big fans of Ulpio Minucci's Robotech music. Bernard's songs could even give that soundtrack a run for its money, but it's such bullshit that an album for it has yet to be released in his lifetime. It's almost unethical how Warner handles these copyrights. There's no good reason to leave these musicians' works locked away in a vault for decades, and then get mad at the fans when they try to post it somewhere. Ugh!

Funny thing is, perhaps the most well-known Bernard Hoffer song is one none of us knew about. I just found out he composed the original theme song to the PBS Newshour, recently replaced with a slight remix a few years ago. I love that theme song!

Personally, our best hope is that the new Thundercats show does well enough that a market for niche Thundercats product becomes viable for Warner Brothers. Just because it exists doesn't mean it's releasable. I mean hell, we're going into year four since this petition started in a few months. Thundercats is surprisingly well-preserved and a soundtrack is *possible*, just not *viable* right now.
Our best hope, again, is to rally around the new show to strengthen the franchise as a whole.

What's the name of the quick tune that starts at 3:23 ? I think it's a variation of the main theme but never found it, but I love it. Oh and yeah thundercats soundtrack kicked some major ass.

Great Video! I have long wanted a proper release for the Thundercats score.
Have you thought of approaching specialist film score lables like Film Score Monthly or Intrada. They do limited run releases of many scores and might see the value in such a release where WB don't.
Also you should put the link to the petition in the video description, cos lazy people might not bother to type it out from the video. :p

@vanishy0urself 100 percent yes. We found out about this via the first dvd prints that had episodes with no music just sfx. All the original masters to everything TCATS still exist. The dvds just had the tracks recut together seperatly, even the title screens had masters, those that werent located were omited from the dvd (hence the missing frames).

@Kregermeister it's theoretically possible to subtract audio (in an editing program) of the musicless release from a normal one to get music without sfx/voices. Of course, those wouldn't be FULL THEMES, and it won't sound perfect... but still.
You can also cut out music from different parts where different moments are covered by the voices and choose the voiceless parts.
It's not much, but it's something that's possible to do WITHOUT needing access to the original masters.

For what it is worth. Thanks for at least making sure this music is safe from being totally lost forever. This and TMNT 87 are the soundtracks I have always wanted. I honestly don't think the old TMNT music exists anymore.
I just hope someday I can rock out to this on my iPod.

Kregermeirster, we have been waiting for long for this to be released legally. But how long will you wait before you are able to share this with us if WB doesn't do it? You can ask for Bern's permission for this. Honestly how long, it's too much wait.
Anyway, I honestly wish the new show uses the old intro theme, only modernized a bit. But to get rid of this awesome theme would be a bad move.

@TheSpoofMan3 Great questions dude! Ive re-cut and made a final selection to 80 percent of the audio and slightly re-mastered it. It would need a fine tooth comb to take out the aditional mic hiss, and WB could gladly have all my work free of charge, Id even give them my first born to get this out there.
If Bernie was cool with it, id be down. WB have big legal hammers for leaks, but if they called me and said "we have no plans, share it" that would be great too. They just dont call back lol

I would also snap up a legal release in a heartbeat but after all this time I've lost all expectation or hope now. It's an utter shame since the soundtrack/score work is absolutely amazing and possibly one of the best things about the show.
Best of luck. I hope something comes out eventually. I just can't hold my breath any more.
Any uploads would of course be highly appreciated.

Just wanted to say thank ypou for this video, brings back so many memories. Too bad I didn't know about the petition sooner, otherwise I would've signed up several times over.
In nay case, I noticed you left out two themes: You left out the them that would play when the Cats were planning or building something (It used a nice guitar in the background), and the second theme was for Hachiman and the Thundercutter...as a matter of fact, it was the first theme but played in an Asian style.

@DNotes06 if i am correct he only has the season 1 soundtrack in which case Hachiman's theme or the twist for him on the theme might not be there. regardless he isn't going to share so not much point.
it is funny because someone had to share it with him for him to get it but oh well. we can just keep searching i guess

@DNotes06 there is also a season 2 theme in episode 90 - vultureman's revenge where the wolo plays the main theme i believe.
also my personal favourite is the one they play when vulture man goes to get a soundstone before the lunatack's notice him. it may be the darkside theme but it is usually played when the lunatacks are involved. too bad it isn't readily available.

Over two years. And has there been any progress, any response? Seemingly not, despite the fact that there's been some effort; take the comics they released some time back.
Meanwhile people champing at the bit for the music are forced to rely on remakes(regardless of quality, it's not the same) and bad, short clips. At this point, one has to consider releasing the damm tracks if only to get a proper rise out of them.

I suspect they are holding out for the new cartoon and possible movie before going ahead with this. Big corporations like to time things together so they can maximize exposure and hence sales. It will happen, but keep fighting for it just the same.

GUYS, I cant thank you enough for the recent kind letters, it doesnt look right now like anyone at WB is listining to a word or email im saying, even with the new show coming out.
Trust me when I saw I want you all to hear this (without doing anything shady lol), im not giving up the fight. Im slowly thinking of ways to sneak some music into my projects, if you see my figure case review I believe you hear most of Mumm-Ra's theme there.

Why not help WB organise a fundraiser. Everyone who wants a copy of the soundtrack pay the cost up-front (determined and held by WB). When the target (certain percentage above cost determined by WB, but disclosed from the outset) is met, everyone who paid gets their cd of the soundtracks (seasons 1 + 2). WB can then go on to sell in a wider market knowing that it's been proven to sell. If the target isn't met everyone gets a refund, (WB now knows that the product cannot compete) fair as it gets.

This will never see an official release. Of the many fans this show had in it's day, only a percentage of them are still interested as adults, and of that percentage fewer still are interested in the music. And with music piracy what it is today, only a tiny handful would pay for this. WB would never commission a CD for such a limited interest product. The only way this will ever be released is posthumously.
And as I bear no ill will towards Bernard Hoffer I personally hope it's a long wait.

2. it's VERY old work!
3. the creators signed some paper-work down the line that said "we can do whatever we want with your own work! AHAHAHAHA!". SO! REALLY it's up to WB to want to release it.

Kregermeister, the Thundercats OST is the best of any animated series, ever. The amount of work for these orchestral tunes is huge. But its also a very old work and the people who own it don't care anymore. I don't think they will release anything, this means that in the next couple of generations it will become lost and forgotten.
The OST deserves to exist and we all know that the best method of preservation is by thousands of people to have it and not just a couple. I hope you understand

Only idea I have is we gotta flood WB with as much email as possible. Pester the shit out of them. Kreger if you have a direct email address to the ones in charge or close to, post it up.

This is never going to be released, Kregermeister is just using this to showoff.
This video has been up for almost 2 years about an unreleased soundtrack from the 80's that's NEVER going to be commercially released officially.
People will never have the chance to buy it, atleast give them a chance to listen to it. All this "my video copied.....credits..."
Who cares about credits? It's about fans getting to hear the material they anxiously have waited for. But whatever man.

O.K. All you thunder cats buffs. i'm a 80's child , and I watched pretty much all the cartoons growing up. I didn't appreachiate the hard work, and quielty of the people who made them, intil cartoons started to die away. know I pay alot of attention to who made what. So my Q? is who made Thunder cats, and what can you tell me about him. That's is who oversaw its production, and what was good, bad, ugly about them.

This is really sad. Somebody has the complete soundtrack but won't share with thousands of fans... Legal issues aside, if I had the soundtrack I would upload it asap for the greater good. If a new movie, strong DVD sales and now a new tv series aren't enough to get an official soundtrack release, then it'll never happen!
