I use the slimline muffler I have friends with the same motor that used the brison and they seem to fit in the cowl much better with very little cutting compared to the slimline
I just totaled my Sundowner 50 on it's second flight. (elevator servo failed!) I had a Saito .82 in it just because I had it laying around. If I get another one (and I liked it so well, I just may), I'll certainly put a .91 2-stroke in it after seeing your vid. What juice! This plane likes high rpm motors, and doesn't benefit from the grunt of a four stroke. Great vid! Fast plane!
your landings are out of this world, what am i doing wrong, i have the 50 with a 55 ax, and man it;s hard to land, how are you makeing those nice landings? do you kill the juice coming in. i also have the formula 1 with a 36cc saito, i dont have good landings, help me s.o.s.
Yes, the SD50 flies very nicely. I also had to put my battery behind the servo tray to make it balance. It slows down while retaining stability as well. It's actually a pretty easy model to fly.
Hi, im thinking of getting one of these myself, but i was wansring HOW DOES IT FLY. one takeoff does it tipstall often, and does it fly nicly when slow and on landing?
The SD 50 flies like it on rails. Little squirrely on take off but you get the hang of that with practice. It will fly and land slow. If you apply more than the recommended throws on elevator high rate and pull hard in turn, it will snap. Keep throws on elevator was recommended
No I did not change the fuel tank, still using stock tank that came with the SD 50. The current tank gives me 7 mins flight time with little less than 1/4 tank left. I like to go to bigger tank but been busy with other planes. As for weight, I am at 6lbs 8oz with the 91. I do not believe in add dead weight so I moved my battery around until I get the CG. With the 91 I had to place my battery right behind the servo trey.
Im setting my sundowner up with a .91FX as well. What muffler did you use?

Plane looks great Pat. Did you have to add much weight to the tail with the 91?I'm trying to decide what engine to use. Any ideas on top speed?

No I just moved my battery to the back to get the correct CG

yeah,They may be too fast for you to handle unless you have flown a fast plane.

my advice to you, go with the metal 80in per pound, cost a round 30 bucks a peice, for the servo....s

Did you use the motor mounts in the box to mount this engine or did you have to modify it..
vonbohningII 3 years ago
yes I used the same motor mounts. I just had to drill new holes

thats it!!?? sweet, im upgrading to a OS 91FX than. Thanks for the feedback.
cbuck017 3 years ago
you will have to cut the bottom edge on the cowl for the Pitts muffler to fit but the OS 91 fit just right
patzane 3 years ago
Do you need to make any modifications for the OS 91FX to fit?
cbuck017 3 years ago
the stock muffler does not fit so you have to use pitt style
