As a Jazz Violinist growing up in the Detroit area, Claude has been one of my idols since I was a kid. This is a great example of how violin CAN and DOES contribute just as much "flavor" to Jazz as any brass, strings or pianos you'll hear. Very cool vid.
I was lucky enough to see Claude play in person some years back, and I am so glad to find this! What an amazing musician! Please do upload the other songs you have! NAncy
Claude Williams is STILL the hardest swinging violinist I have heard. I've heard a lot about Eddie South and Stuff Smith, so I have to check them out, but I love Claude.
I think he played six tunes on the tape I have. We transferred this to video as a test, and we still have some work to do to synchronize the bowing and sound. I agree that this is real music!
You're right about the sound-bowing synch. The video went from 8mm videotape to Mac QuickTime to iMovie. This is the 24fps version. The 32fps version has better synch but was too large to upload. You can get a sense of Claude's playing, and I thought jazz and blues fiddlers would enjoy this.
the sound was impressive in this video. I really like the feeling of this piece. one tiny problem though, the video lags so that the sound comes after the musician. other than that, this video was so great.

I was fortunate enough to meet this gentleman in Kansas City about 10 years ago. I also got his autograph. His playing was truly sublime.

The cat could swing. Are there any more videos of Claude in your archive? If so, they should be posted.
Youth today should have a chance to see and hear what real music is.
