  • Sampling is one thing, but putting a drum loop over a completely unchanged composition is fucking ridiculous...

  • @zage513 c'mon they changed it a little..

  • @zage513 what are you talking about they changed it a lot

  • @zage513 just listen there is alot more going on than a drum loop

  • @zage513 actually the original is in 3 so with this drum loop being in 4, he had to totally change the melody.

  • @zage513 The original is in three, so they had to alter the melody which really isn't hard but still had to be done. Then they changed almost all of the chords by adding extra notes and inverting them. On top of that they put a pretty sweet bass line. Now on top of all of that they had to write all of those solos, and some of that jazz piano takes a lot of skill (not to mention that sax playing is pretty good too.) So no, they didn't just put a drum loop under an unchanged composition.

  • The Bass guitar work on here is ridiculas!!!

  • one of the best cd ever

  • Sweet track - now one of my favorite things.

  • its a coltrane cover..... good cover thought

  • lol when it ended i was waittin for "take off your cool" to come on lol

  • love this....the best...

  • I love driving to this

  • i love when they make song covers and put a whole different spin on it...not like some covers that sound exactly the same :D

  • What are some of my favorite things?

To rip and tear at my hated foes

To silence them dead, along with their woes

To see their blood flowing, oh what joy it brings!

These are just some of my favorite things.

  • 2nd favorite version of favorite things under coltranes version and borgores version under this

  • Al hirt green hornet

  • This sound like one of my "3 in the morning" specials!

  • This is not one of my favourite things.

  • sounds like squarepusher's my favorite things

  • 1:41 - 2:02 is my favourite part

  • for some reason i get reminded of the jetsons

  • I was looking up the music to My Favorite Things in my jazz fake book, and my girlfriend said "you're going to learn a Julie Andrews song?" I had to shake my head, but I was able to resist the overwhelming urge to tell her we're through.

  • @subg88 awwwww silly girl

  • i know i may sound ignorant but does andre play the piano on this song?

  • @avirah1 Yeah he plays piano.

  • This feels very coltrane.

  • Words cannot explain the amount of amazing this song is

  • lol i was literally looking for this song for days!!!! thanks god :)))

  • Anyone here who hasn't heard of John Coltrane can give up and go home.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry, but does anyone else see this as some RPG boss battle theme? Or at least Kingdom Hearts?

  • @eroc51440 sounds like something from super smash bros

  • @ThugLifeJ Really? I don't hear it.

  • @eroc51440 i was thinking the same lol i know i heard this on a game

  • @eroc51440 I never thought of it like that b4. Totally agree.

  • love the 1960's John Coltrane version but this one sure does get my toes a tapping

  • Who's on the piano?

  • I love this song the original

  • Andre3000 is truly talented

  • This should have been on Samurai Champloo! love this :)

  • Boy.. HE BEATIN THE HELL OUT OF THEM DRUMS!! Damn..

  • @KillaBraggz It's a possibility that he laid down a track and then had it sped up in the studio. I'm not writing this as if you didn't know this.

  • I love this. It's kinda sad how upset people get over someone's interpretation of a song. #IfYouDontLikeItDontListenToIt.

  • damn I love 3 stacks!!!!! UGH i really wsh he would do his alleged solo album man

  • what else classic tune can we murder? the drums are REALLY annoying. It's a shame, cos it would have been good without it. I'm not sure they're playing the instruments tho ; if they do I'm really impressed!

  • @str4to I don't think it was bad, but those drums do get annoying. It's like they went to the effort of recording some amazing instrumentals for this and then ruin it with a repetitive drum machine track throughout the entire song.

  • this could be considered acid jazz, Andre has really earned my respect

  • I like how rappers today say they can make a song with no lyrics and still kill the track. Well...we are still wating for that to happen. In the meantime, why don't yall take notes.

  • @jammastereric Tyler, the Creator did it with AU79. He's actually a really good producer.

  • @jammastereric you know this is a cover right?

  • @jammastereric Outkast is awesome, but... this is definitely a cover, dude. Ever see The Sound of Music?

  • @DAVIDInitiative Of course I have seen the Sound of Music and I know this is a cover, but cover or not, it is a lyricless track that was performed incredibly

  • BEAST AZZZZZZZZZZ SHIT CANT FUCK WIT ANDRE MAN JUS TOOO MUCH FOR EMMMM

  • I love this - the only reason why I know it exists is because of general music. Well, thanks school curriculum!

  • I love this! The Drum & Bass beat is so sick!

  • @rockomundo and the cool thing is that real jazz players can play it live like nobody's business!!

  • i loooooove this cover

  • i wasnt referring to them, i was referring to the musicians in this song itself. these were not studio musicians on this recording. yikess

  • Hell muthafuckin yeah! This shit is a JAM!

  • I PLAYED THE Ouuuuuu out this song, cuz I love the original version. I can appreciate ORIGINALITY. Everybody knows the Coltrane version was the greatest version BUT this is hott! and it's sooooo Andre 3000

  • I enjoyed this version, never heard it. Go Andre!!! xoxo

  • ..one of my favorite things

  • french fries and girls and all diamond rings

watching sick athletes like brandon jennings

burgers and beers and the joy that it brings

these are just some of my favorite things

  • @stevo463 roflcopter has taking off

  • @stevo463

    fat raps...literally lol just kidding

  • these guys just murdered this song... go and listen to coltrane's version

  • John Coltrane anybody?

  • bet wayne cant rap off of this beat lol

  • @neworlenas12 i bet he could

  • @SimplyAVoice bet on it

  • handsome beat

  • is htis just a 5 minute instrumental?

  • This is great!

  • funny how almost nobody notices it's from the sound of music :p

  • There's no sampling done here; just celebrating of My Favorite Things. And it is good.

  • This song is an homage to John Coltrane's version of the song, a jazz standard.

  • aaand now my evening will be consumed by writing out that crazy bass part.

  • this is probably my favorit song...

  • I always think of a pyshco computer and that kid that plays the piano on charlie brown lol

  • I miss Outkast they need another album like Speakerboxxx/The Love Below quickly i still listen to this album

  • this is crazy

  • Mind = Blown

  • Play on Piano Playa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hard

  • Not sure if its been mentioned. But i have this album and i was so sure that it must be Andre 3000 playing the keys and was amazed. Turns out its...... NORAH JONES!! I never knew her piano skills were quite so high. Such a great remix too. It blows mind how there is a 4/4 drums and bass line going and the piano is playing in 3/4 overtop!! anyone else noticed that?

  • @chiku40 This is Andre 3000 playing. Norah Jones was on "Take off your cool". Look up the liner notes, it says A. Benjamin- Keyboards (Andre 3000's real name)

  • @chiku40 ..Now ya Know

  • @chiku40 is a band nerd coming out of the closet. No worries, I also am a band nerd.

  • @chiku40 although the original is in 3/4, this has been rewritten in 4/4 with a crotchet tuplet figure and a held note at the end to fill out the rest of the bar. nothing super crazy i'm afraid! also i checked the sleeve notes- everything in this tune itself is played by Andre 3000!

  • I can't believe I never realized that this was DnB....It's like I just realized that there is no spoon.

I've always loved OutKast, but this just...REALLY...wow.

  • Muzic From the SOUUULLL

  • art tatum would have murdered this!!!

  • @golden2314 who the hell is art tatum

  • @mindmaster323 well he's more so known in the jazz/piano world but he's only like the greatest jazz piano player ever... youtube or google him

  • @mindmaster323

A virtuoso jazz pianist. Absolute genius.

  • I hate to burst some of you people's bubbles but this is NOT Andre . . . or even Norah Jones playing the piano. It's Kevin Kendrick (he happens to be one of my best friends and I know this as fact). I know some of you want to believe Andre can do everything, but credit needs to be paid to the person who is ACTUALLY playing the piano NOT what some of you want to believe. Kevin is credited on the album.

He was also the pianist on the Truth or Dare (Madonna) tour among MANY other things.

  • btw . . Kevin is FAR too humble to seek the limelight or complain about something like this. Nor am I putting Andre or Norah Jones down in anyway at all. It's just that I'm reading here that many of you people are enjoying the piano playing on this tune and I feel the proper credit should be given to the proper person. So many of us have been knocking around in the music business for MANY years. There are far too many people who bust their bums on records playing beautifully w/o the credit

  • @nyc44thstreet <-------Fuck you and Kevin,...the credit is due 2 whoever went ham on that beatbox,...The mixing on the beat is what made this instrumental great,..not the fuckin' piano, so I hate bustin' your bubble,...fuKn LamER.

  • @nyc44thstreet

I wasn't actually talking about André, as talented as he is. Someone asked who Art Tatum was, so I was seeking to inform there. You're right when you say Kendrick deserves some credit.

  • this song is one of my favorite things

  • At 3:38 he kilt....(KILT) that Sax... I had the Funk face right there ... uhm!!

  • i hope people realize this is a bass and drum (genre) beat over a 50's or 60's version of "my favorite things"

they fused great music, jazz/bebop and bass and drum/hip hop

  • So-da kyoto iko!!

  • 5:14 of pure genius.

  • this is basically a cover of the john coltrane track, there is no "studio musicians" guys.

  • I was dropping this the entire thing I thought I was going to miss that train! I managed to get kicked off the train anyway. That's LA for ya!

  • When i first heard the beat drop i thought the drum break was too fast...then a few seconds in i thought it was the shit. good song to play while playing games, fits in when playing super metroid and your running fast destroying creatures

  • @SoulSnatchaz loool!

  • anyone who thinks that these were "studio musicians" needs to learn a little bit about music. and train that ear nigga

  • @fenderfenatic Hahaha I love how you sound so pro until the very end of the sentence hahaha.

  • @1nolyphoenix Sadly

  • @fenderfenatic maybe you should as well, john coltrane, mccoy tyner, and elvis jones were all session musicians at one point in their career. and dido with 1nolyphoenix

  • @fenderfenatic 8 months later, but Kevin Kendrick played the piano, and there was a bassist and saxophonist. You can check it out on the credits of the album, this was all recorded in a studio, NO sampling. Besides, I don't quite seem to remember Coltrane using a fucking fretless bass. And apart from the main "hook", nearly everything is different.

  • there are no studio musicians. this song is sampled from john coltrane and the beat itself was probably created using LOGIC PRO. or some kind of other drum machine. this is all electronically engineered

  • @fenderfenatic none of this at all is sampled from the john coltrane version...

  • isnt this song actually from a musical by rodgers and hammerstein?

  • @justinsb2 yes, the Sound of Music.

  • the genious of john coltrane

  • the genious of john coltrane

  • I love this : )

  • It's a shame that the actual musicians who played this piece go uncredited and unknown. The beat for this song is amazing, don't get me wrong, but the bass line is hot and the pianist is playing out of his mind. I'd really like to know who the studio musicians were.

  • @djhoski me too !! i bought this album wit sum quarters i scraped up when i was like 13 or 14 .. i always wanted to kno who the awesome musicians were behind this track.. whoever they are ,,........WOW.

  • @djhoski as i recall, andre 3000 is a multi-instrumentalist. he probably plays every instrument on this track, and probably every instrument heard on The Love Below.

  • @xskysealx nah.

  • Jazz Hands

  • Its like a Final Fantasy/Kingdom hearts song....Awesome

  • Godamn this is great. It's funny cause it's a song from "The sound of music" from the 60's, but they took it and with that fast tempo beat in the backround and that jazz piano, they made it so great.

  • Andre can play all these instruments for those who dont know

  • @TheWalkingweaponDD7 So can Prince...i think.

  • @TheWalkingweaponDD7 Yeah, but in this track piano is played by Kevin Kendrick, Saxophone by Gary Harris and bass by Aaron Mills.

The only song Andre plays saxophone in is She Lives In My Lap, and, well...

He does play guitar like a pro though.

  • @TheWalkingweaponDD7 but hell no he can't play them this good, specially the bass, drums and piano

  • @rodcrippler Lol this song is Him on Piano are you kidding me?

  • @TheWalkingweaponDD7 That's not the point...alot of people can play multiple instruments. It's the ability to put sounds together in your head then generate them using instruments what makes a musician talented.

  • This reminds me of Tekken lmao.

  • This is a great song, but still just a remix from John Coltrane. Coltrane is the real OG!

  • @Batmaaaan23 Coltrane was a "remix" also... It's one of the most interpreted songs and comes from the soundtrack of "The Sound of Music".

  • Amazing!

  • what a fuckin awasome drum n' bass version :O

  • 'Trane still lives! GO OUTKAST!

  • I was old and full fo fleas. My teeth were worn right down to nubbins and y digestion was all shot. And I had terrible dreams.

  • Hell yeah! This is so jazzy! Great piano and Bass!

  • Hell, I hate Outkast, but this song WINS

  • THIS SONG IS SO DAMN GOOD!

  • Incredible.

  • mom always bumped this #GOODTIMESMAN < i bin on twitter too much!! lol

  • @NERD584 Wayy to much loll

  • aye this is the sog georgia brown sang her song"mermaid" wow

  • i have been looking for this song for so long ever since lost the cd, and didn't know the name of this one, i went crazy when i found this song right now. i love

  • 5/5

  • i loved the music itself, the beat box ruins it for me, is this the COltrane version just remixed? or its something else?

  • This isn't a remix of Contrane's because Coltrane didn't make the original. The original came from "The Sound of Music", and has been remade by many great artists.

  • I love the intro. The middle part of the song sounds a bit mashed together like Saramad Hill. Still good, though.

  • my fav!!!

  • This is one of my favorite songs on this album..... so badass...

  • pimped out version of an old beat down classic . Are you sure xzibit didnt have something to do with this? lolol jk

  • Dis got me laid back Rofl..love it

  • Why do you have to criticize somebody on something as trivial as "rofl"? I hate morons who can't even think of something more meaningful to criticize.

  • beautiful

  • this sounds like elevator music while ur thizzing

  • I remember i used to listen to this song non stop back in 7th grade when it first came out.

  • listened 2 the whole thing repeatedly back in the day. pumped it up! moms yelling lol

  • @SteFUNN same!!!

  • i hope you mean that this is THE shit.
