18 sets for shoulders isn't OT. You use your shoulders every day and in most movements. You need to hit them hard. I'm not sure if this was a shoulder/trap workout. I'd say no from the wider grip on the u. rows.
Some people may say that smith machine press is bad for the rotator cuff due to it's unnatural plane of motion, were you using this because your boyfriend/training partner was not there? :P

People injury their rotator cuffs on BTN presses because they don't warm up their shoulders adequately and/or do too much low rep work and/or use poor form/go too low on each rep. If done correctly behind-the-head pressing is no more dangerous than any other shoulder movement - it just has a greater potential to be screwed up.
