Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but there needs to be a permanent ban on offshore drilling until oil companies can comprehensively prove that they have a foolproof containment strategy ready for immediate deployment.
It's simply to risky to keep pretending that money will solve this recurring problem. Obama needs to get legislation through both houses ASAP; less political spin, less senate committee posturing, more tangible action.
@TheDrunkenCabDriver nope they have a corporate charter which was given to them by the state. They cut corners because they are mandated by the government to hold profit above everything else.
And how is he meant to stop it? Do you really think if he could make it his #1 prioririty and just stop it he wouldn't have already? It's not that simple.
Obama/Gov.usual.com does nothing because who always stands to gains from crisis? Government.
We get more taxes, and they get bigger and bigger.
I used to be a 1911 man, but broke down and got an XD about a year ago. I think I love it more. But I still couldn't find the heart to get rid of my 1911.
Good to see you back and your right more should be done but one can not really put blame on just one. And yes blasting does sound like a good idea let them loose one well and save so much more.
Probably the only way to take control of the spill is to drill another hole (or holes) and relieve pressure on the first one, so they can get at it (my bet: mid 2011 at the earliest). Right now there's a whole lot of people who can't put food on the table and a multinational that no one can afford to go and bankrupt (hence, no holes) to deal with.
So what else can you say? It’s a bag of shit to hold. Obama hasn't fucked it up "yet". And its too fucked up to really quantify at which point you could really say that he has.
Welcome back, no matter if hevier. Guns provide manhood to many, sure wanna show. I think experts don't have any more options Obama can perform, we're fucked.
He is blaming BP, which is just another oil company. You all don't see that the equipment, staff and the rig itself is owned by American companies. and LEASED by BP, which is in it for money.
It seems to be a witch hunt for a single company, which has already pledged tens of billions. And at the end of the day, Americans are only hurting themselves, because the rest of the world is watching how BP are being treated by Obama.
over 22,000 Americans employed by BP, only just over 10,000 Brits.
@bassdemon16 how does that change anything? you think its a nationalistic thing that im pissed off that there is oil flooding into the food supply? and good the majority of our oil comes from venesuala and canada.
You're right. I'd be angry . But it irritates me that Obama seeks to "look strong" and bully BP and effectively smear their name in the kind of language and insults he used. Fact is the deeper we start drilling, the more things like this will happen unless all the companies get their shit together, not just BP.
At the end of the day, it's supply and demand. The American people understandably don't like it when someone shits on their doorstep for oil... Oh the irony.
The Soviets used nukes to seal underwater wells 6 times. Apparently it can be done using conventional explosives also. The downside is it destroys the well so BP could never drill it again. Oh well It's been 2 full months, and best case estimate is another month to finally seal it. I say blow it up. Declare it a matter of 'nation security' and then Obama can do whatever he wants to it.
Because current economic controls and regulators fucked up and failed, we really need more regulation. Quantity will solve everything, I am sure of it.
@Scheckig Well, there is a way of doing that by revoking BP's corporate charter; the only thing is that I'm completely unaware of how that would work. Charters, from what I know, are registered at the state level, so it would be that state's process in revoking it.
What exactly could Obama do within the scope of his position? From what I heard, since the Valdez spill, the company is in charge of the clean up operation, and apparently we have liability caps on this sort of thing, which means it wouldn't have mattered who was in the white house. Hopefully this leads to an interest in removing caps on liabilities (especially ecological) so companies will tread a little bit more cautiously.
@VirtualHolocaust I can understand the reaction to want to do something like take over their company, but the serious question is if we did nationalize them, then what are we going to do with BP?
Holy shit! IT'S ALIIIIIVE!!!!!! I think this is beyond any capacity of the Fed or just about anyone else. The arrogance, stupidity, and greed of these stupid assholes has really fucked us all over. Every son of a bitch that was involved in creating this monster should be charged with crimes against humanity in the World Court at the Hague
1911? I still have my gramps old colt, haven't fired it in years.
You're right, people should be A LOT more pissed about this shit. It's sad how A.D.D.-ish the media and quite a few of its mindless minions can be. Glad to see a vid from you and wish all the best. Fuck BP.
