Her health problems arent only due to where she is living, she has had on going dental problems for awhile. Lucy had one tooth that was broken and the vets said that caused her nasal airway to be restricted.
James Oosterhuis, a lead researcher with the Colyer Institute, California for the study of oral disease and nutrition with exotic animals, examined Lucy in her habitat . "Lucys current respiratory problems preclude any thought of moving her and in fact it would be life threatening for her to be placed under that kind of stress. It is my opinion that it would be unethical for any vet to recommend moving her and in fact would be malpractice to sign a health certificate for her at this time"
I completely agree with you... and why is Bob making such a stink, yes i understand that Lucy is stressed. But it is far more stressful for her to be transported. Oh and does Bob plan on footing the bill, i dont think so... he expects our tax money to cover it.
Why dont you stay in the states mr.barker, your not welcome here.
Please consider the 65 page report by a respected veterinarian/zoologist freely available online: "One Veterinarians Search for Truth in the Lucy the Elephant Debate" Lucy spends 75% of her time alone in her small concrete cell/cage - because that's where she is outside of zoo hours & for most of Edmonton's winter. Everyone agrees that keeping female elephants alone is unacceptable. THIS is elephant happiness: Dulary & Misty's First Swim - here on youtube from the Elephant Sanctuary
