This is awesome!!! I am about to buy a pet rat and I have just found out they can learn tricks and they seem to enjoy playing around :) Thank you very much for the video! when my future rats will be ready I will try to teach them this trick as well.
@BeautifulRatGirl what do you mean by paw? Cause my rat can "paw" as in like shake hands type thing. All I did for that trick is hold her on my hand and hold a treat, then lift up her paw with my finger and then say "shake" (you can say "paw" or another word for the command, I used "shake") and then gave the treat. Pretty much as you would for a dog, and she does it. Though she is very stubborn and doesn't always listen to me, i'm still in the teaching process with her, but that is how I do it.
@BeautifulRatGirl :) good i'm glad. I will try to get a video on training them "Paw" uploaded soon here, I have three rats and only the oldest one knows it, so I still need to teach the little ones. ♥
Your videos are amazing , I am trying to teach my rats tricks but it is really hard I dont know ehere to start , how long does it take to teach them anytrick ? thanks x

oh wow this great <3 not only do you get a well trained rat but also a close bound to them , i own 3 dumbo rats and they have never bitten me once.Cookie actually looks a lot like this little sweety here O8 do you know what the coloring is called? *is it huskie* and what age do you recommend training them ^^ i am aware that it may take longer to train my Cookie since she has brain damage .3.
im so gunna try this 1, i had started to train 1 of my rats to jump from table to table but unfortunately he died before it was completed ... how long does it take to train this technique and does it depend on the rat?
I LOVE this! Unfortunately, my boys get so many treats just for being alive, its barely reinforcement for them... but it would be so fun to get them to do something like this with me!
hey can you do a experiment video for me can you extend the distance between glasses maybe he can take a ball from the glass and put it in another glass or a mini basketball hoop on the other side of the room? could you make a video like that? thumbs up if you would like too see this.
Can you do it without the glass cause my dad is always worried I can't stand it but if I can do it without the glass like fetch how to let the rat give back the ball? And what treats did you use if its cereals what cereals? thx for making the vid also watch sum of mines.
Can you do it without the glass cause my dad is always worried I can't stand it but if I can do it without the glass like fetch how to let the rat give back the ball?
@alliecat523 i am 12 and i just go 2 girls and i love them but i find them hard to tame but they are alot of ffun. if you have had experience taming hamsters or animals along the line it might be easier. i now own 2 rats 6 hamsters 2 gebils 4 guinea pigs 2 bugies and a rabbit. very busy in my house lol!!!
omg you have reallly handsome rats!!! i have a rex and a dumbo! haha~ gonna teach them this trick later this week! thz for the easy-to-follow instructions!
@07350zhr: If you have any good pet stores around you that aren't of the "petsmart" type, see if you can hold or interact with the rats that are for sale. Get your mom to spend some time around rats that aren't running for their lives. They are extremely cute and tend to win people over. In my experience. Just make sure it's a female when it comes "mom-time". The males leave urine trails. And that can kill cute when it's unexpected.
I'm very impressed with your channel. I've been an animal lover all my life, but I've never owned rats. I've been doing lots of research before I purchase, but one of my main reasons for wanting to own rats is for the joy of interaction and training. :D I love to see another animal lover that has the patience and puts time into keeping these intelligent animals happy through positive stimulation!
This is a great tutorial! I'll be watching your others. I am trying to gather all the info and supplies I need before adopting a pair of male ratties. I'm unemployed now and still going to school, so I've got plenty of time. Lol Thanks again!
Hi there, your rats are absolutely brilliant. Thanks for your videos we have got some really good ideas from them for our 4 girls. can you tell us please what sort of frame that is you use as we are trying to find one similar.
Cute little bastards... I really hope to get a pair of rats... But my mom says no.. I got some advice from some guy I dont even know who lives in Oregon (I live in B.C.,Canada) To offer a deal when I get my first job...: If I can hold the job for 3 months, Saving the money.. I get to buy the rats in return.. And If that doesn't work.... Well then... I'm fucked.
i hava a little girl rat named cracker and i have only a ten gallon tank for her. i'm looking to buy her a baby girl dor company. would there be enough room for the both of them, or should i buy a 20 gallon?
Tanks really aren't good for rats, they don't get good ventilation and they're so narrow. A ten gallon would be way too small. Can you get a wire cage instead?
Ratletts tend to be omnivorous .. they pretty much eat anything, but for treats I give them a gourmet quality cheese about 1/2 cm square. Our little fella's also like pecan pieces, but I understand that many other ratletts seem picky about what nuts they like. I don't feed/reward them with sugar, since it seems to get them wound up ..
the most important thing to remember is to get some treats the rat will eat and not to much suggar or fat. I sometimes use their daily food as treats. And it has to be so small so the rat eats it on the spot instead of running away with it as soon as it gets it
Definitely :). You'll need to give them a little time to get used to you and the surroundings first, so they are comfy with you and then they'll love the training :)
Best to experiment and find something she really loves. Try Brocolli, grape, banana (yellow only - not green or brown), or just bagged treats from the pet store, all broken into small bits so that you can train without over treating :)
That is just AMAZING. It really seems such a shame that this intelligent rodent only lives for 2-3 years. :( I just lost my pet rattie girl Chibi, she lived to be almost 3. I have another one now and was looking for taming advice, and came upon this awesome trick video!
Yeah that's true. They deserve much longer lives themselves, so as it is, its our role to provide them with the bestest life we can in the time they get :)
I've seen those vids, but this rat is very skittish. However, he seems to be improve slightly each day. I'll just keep working with him. I'm using a bit of the forced socialization method.
lol thnks for concern but my cherry is test biting quite hard do you know any way tomake her stop biting so hard?? or does it depend on the rat lol and time??
I will definitely try this. I've never had male ratties before, they seem so HUGE!!! O.O Is it true that male rats are calmer, more lapratty, from your experience? My girls are so energetic and splorey.
Without a doubt, males are much slower and calm and cuddle ready. Boys are almost always larger than the female counterparts too. Girls can be pretty crazy lol
Yeah, girl are a tad crazy at times - I had two females a couple years ago; Kaylee and River. Very sweet though. The trade off between males and females are that while males are more cuddly and friendly towards people (in general), they like to mark their territory often. Female, on the other than, don't do that, but they can be a handful themselves :) Love them to death, though. I have a big male named Seamus - he's not as friendly as he used to be, but he's still a sweetie. Love having rats!
Females are also almost always smaller than their male counterpart, and because of that much more speedy and agile. Boys can come across quite clumsy in comparison :). Thanks for comment.
hey opupu i took ur advice and got 3 lovely female dumbo rats from a local (30 min drive) shop as they seemed to know more about rats then pets at home thanks for your help,
bulletz rule rats judging by who i have spoken to they dont bite:)
Not bitten as such, all the new rats i've had have tested my fingers and such with their teeth, but its not biting and is quickly replaced with licks. No broken skin etc. :) Womble still loves to nip at feet when no one is looking lol (he has a foot obsession), but if you keep an eye on him he won't do it when you're watching lol
Pets at home aren't the greatest, just a word of warning. From all I've heard from people who have, a lot of their animals have turned out to be ill in one way or another. Often fine after a period of time but i'm not sure i would trust them. Hope your experience is better with them if you choose to go there :)
i dont mean this meanly but when i was at pets at home i asked if i could hold one of the rats coz' im thinking of getting one and i asked if they get them out regularly and they said once they are in the cage(tank) they don't come out unless someone askes. this makes them antisocial for a while and will probably take longer to form a bond with you.
Once you get some then you'll always want more and more, all owners know that feeling lol. I'm not saying stop at two, but two is a sensible place to start for first time owners ... and basically just trying to advise against one anyway :)
yeah. i started out with one then not much later i got another but the one i had would not accept ANY other rats to live with her. i was her companion. she was amazing. and very smart. like your rats =)
Your rats are so smart and cute. -3

Yeah that's true. They deserve much longer lives themselves, so as it is, its our role to provide them with the bestest life we can in the time they get :)

I sent you a link direct to your channel. Hope the taming videos are helpful for you :)

Thanks for your help!
I've seen those vids, but this rat is very skittish. However, he seems to be improve slightly each day. I'll just keep working with him. I'm using a bit of the forced socialization method.

Keep going with him, like you say he will improve everyday with regular good handling and it won't be long before he'll be fine :)

Thank you :). And yeah its heartbreaking that they live such a short time. So important to give them the best life we can :)

lol thnks for concern but my cherry is test biting quite hard do you know any way tomake her stop biting so hard?? or does it depend on the rat lol and time??

I will definitely try this. I've never had male ratties before, they seem so HUGE!!! O.O Is it true that male rats are calmer, more lapratty, from your experience? My girls are so energetic and splorey.
RNBWfimmy 2 years ago
Without a doubt, males are much slower and calm and cuddle ready. Boys are almost always larger than the female counterparts too. Girls can be pretty crazy lol
oPuPo 2 years ago

Thanks for comment.

hey opupu i took ur advice and got 3 lovely female dumbo rats from a local (30 min drive) shop as they seemed to know more about rats then pets at home thanks for your help,
bulletz rule rats judging by who i have spoken to they dont bite:)
bouncybouncywowwow 2 years ago
Ah, that's great news :). Really glad you were able to side-step away from pets at home :). Let me know how you get on :)
oPuPo 2 years ago
did you ever get bit
75bulletzrule 2 years ago
Not bitten as such, all the new rats i've had have tested my fingers and such with their teeth, but its not biting and is quickly replaced with licks. No broken skin etc. :) Womble still loves to nip at feet when no one is looking lol (he has a foot obsession), but if you keep an eye on him he won't do it when you're watching lol

im getting mine from pets @ home:)
bouncybouncywowwow 2 years ago
Pets at home aren't the greatest, just a word of warning. From all I've heard from people who have, a lot of their animals have turned out to be ill in one way or another. Often fine after a period of time but i'm not sure i would trust them. Hope your experience is better with them if you choose to go there :)
oPuPo 2 years ago
i dont mean this meanly but when i was at pets at home i asked if i could hold one of the rats coz' im thinking of getting one and i asked if they get them out regularly and they said once they are in the cage(tank) they don't come out unless someone askes. this makes them antisocial for a while and will probably take longer to form a bond with you.
sorry but i would go for a breeder if you can

bouncybouncywowwow 2 years ago
Aww :). Hope that works out well for you :). From a breeder, or?
oPuPo 2 years ago
ahhh they're sooo cute, i was going to get a hamster but they were so anti social lol:P so im getting a rat now:) can i add you for more tricks??
bouncybouncywowwow 2 years ago
Of course you can :). Hamsters are very anti social in comparison to ratties. Get two ratties and you'll love every second with them :)
oPuPo 2 years ago
why stop at two? lol i love rats. i have 5 but i want more!
love4ferrets 2 years ago
Once you get some then you'll always want more and more, all owners know that feeling lol. I'm not saying stop at two, but two is a sensible place to start for first time owners ... and basically just trying to advise against one anyway :)
oPuPo 2 years ago
yeah. i started out with one then not much later i got another but the one i had would not accept ANY other rats to live with her. i was her companion. she was amazing. and very smart. like your rats =)
