fake commercial. Look at the place where she unpack the glide. Very little rocky space, like a mountain summit. It makes an impression she is going to launch there But the area where she actually take-off from a few seconds later is large, wide slope... I hate commercials...
@da42170 Because that would be boring. Some people like skiing. Some people like Paragliding. Your question is like asking a skydiver like myself "Why not fly the plane down rather than jump?".
She went up there specifically to Paraglide because that is the sport she knows and loves. NOT skiing.
@themrdaydreamer with no wind, beginner wings can do min.22km/h-max.48km/h. Pro wings may be from min.24km/h up to 60km/h. If you add the wind speed to the normal gliding speed, sometimes it may exceed 100km/h compared to the ground. But a week-end pilot almost never reaches 50km/h, and still might fly 3 hours daily! :)
50% of people who started with such things an paramotor are dead, they crashed one way or the other, leaving devastated families behind. These activities should be banned, I dont know why people disregard their own lives like that, hanging themselves from a piece of cloth that can fold in a twist smashing you against the ground headwards. I take by backpack, a nice meal and go trekking feeling the ground of my feet which is what it is supposed to be
@match20045 What?! Where did you get that statistic?!!! That is crazy how untrue that is. And man has always had a fascination with flight. Plus, who should tell someone that they can't do something because it may be dangerous. With hiking, you can fall and break your leg. So no hiking for you.
@match20045 you must be scared of pretty much everything and everyone in life, aren't you?
the possibility to die in a car while driving it around like millions of people do every day is quite a bit bigger than to die with a paraglider or hang-glider... 50% ?! you meant 5 didn't you? even that would be A LOT.
strange thing is; you seem to like paragliding in some way (otherwise you wouldn't watch vids of it, right?) but are too scared to ever try it...?
@i0ughta Mathematically you are right, but the wing would have to be far more efficient than what is basically a specially shaped series of open ended string bags held together by some lines.
I dont give a shit, how lite or comfortable it is. Im not jumping off a mountain unless i really have to. I would have to be chased down bye two mountain leapords to jump!!!!
@kinkabala almost every paraglider wears a back up chute atleast i do mine colapsed twice since i started the sport and i was fine both times because of my back up
You are truly fearless. I don't so much mean the Paragliding but more when your walking up those steep slopes. I don't want to bring you negativity, but what would happen if you slipped and rolled out of control. These camera angles make it seem like it's a long way down. I wish you luck in your adventures. God be with you.
Theres a huge difference! Parachutes only reduce your vertical speed of a fall and let you land safely. Paragliders are ultralight aircrafts; you´re able to take off, fly and land. You can climb heights of thousands of meters above your take off site and travel even up to hundreds of kilometers away (World record is more than 500 Kms.).
By the way, we all paraglider pilots carry always an emergency parachute on our harnesses.
Thank you for explaining that to me. Now my question is that does a larger paraglider help you go farther or is the glider ib this video only for short distances?
The size of a paraglider is determined by you weight, speed and best glide is determinate mostly by the wing rating since there´s beginners certificated paragliders all the way up to high performance competition paragliders. All modern paragliders are able to fly really long distance though, just slower than high class ones.
@Finkenstein I dont know.. I would love to do this but I already lost 1 sense have 2 bad ones and cant walk.. do you think doing this would finish the job ?
@Finkenstein I dont know.. I would love to do this but I already lost 1 sense have 3 other bad ones and cant walk.. do you think doing this would finish the job ?
@Finkenstein Theres a huge similarity. All ram air canopies are related by the fact that they are essentially inflatable wings.
Parachutes do not only reduce your vertical speed and let you land safely. When they were round thats what they did. You should spend some time on some of the skydiving/swooping youtube sections. All that has happened is the same basic principle of the ram air canopy has been adapted for different purposes, such as paragliding, skydive, groundlaunching, paramotor.
Comercial air planes travel at 21kms, how can a non-engine powered vehicle reach that high, specially on cloth that will freeze on low temperatures and pilot with only self-carried oxigen tanks.
"How far can you go?" =DISTANCE not ALTITUDE. And the world record DISTANCE (not sure if it's ratified) was a flight of over 500 kilometres.
The cloth will not "freeze on low temperatures" because you never get that high. As for oxygen, some pilots do carry it if they deliberately intend to go ridiculously high, but most pilots never bother because you don't need to go that high to go far. You could glide for over 400 km without ever climbing past, say, 7000 feet.
catching thermals is not that easy. the fact that rocks might be warm does not mean that the thermals will be strong enough to create lift. also, a thermal band can be very small and hard to catch or stay inside. and in the Alps, thermals can be so strong that you are glad NOT to catch one.
In the words of so many before me...WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT SONG AT THE END!!!??? Really very fitting and wonderful for the sensation of flying. What was it?

what good does a climbing helmet, designed for rockfall and not impact!, do while paragliding? Afraid of stuff falling from the sky?
ErwinvanderWerve 5 months ago
@ErwinvanderWerve Well, the wind grabbing your glider, pulling you over great distances head first, rough landings, and of course kamikaze eagles.

@Zaladorarch climbing helments don't work for rough landings or landing on your head.
