We tried to save our innocent Armenian citizens' life by moving them away from war. Yet we couldn't save our own. Turks value life so much. @MrDschonsen get your facts straight, even Cyprus claims there were missing people less than 1000, it is a military intervention, there were casualties on both sides. In Turkish villages Aloa, Maratha and Sandalari mass killings took place and graves have been found, and those are well documented, even Greek Antonis Angastiniotis has created a documentary about the subject in 2004. Horror stories about Turks killing pregnant woman etc are propaganda, Turks have similar ones for Greeks too.

I am not a historian, but for as much as I know, (and I am not talking about the dark periods at the very end of the Empire), Yes, the Ottoman Empire was tolerant to a high degree. What other country did the same back in the year 1400? The Ottomans, (where before Byzance treated other ethnic groups like dirt (even if christian)), did let them develop. and prosper.
It would be greedy to deny it now that it sounds natural to us to act likewise in the year 2009 ...

Only I can't insult anyone and I can't say what Ataturk did was wrong. Because our nation's survival depands on it. It was build upon what Ataturk did. It was not Ataturk. After the some non muslims in Ottoman Empire started to kill muslims, a hatred against them started. In his book "Nutuk" I read Ataturk warns the Turks not to fall in to this trap.

After Istanbul's capture, the ancient books that were gathering dust in Istanbul were translated and those books started the enlightenment in Europe. That's why Europe is civilized today. The reason we haven't yet entered EU is because of some (not all) Kurdish Turkey citizens living in Europe. They have an artificially created identity (England did it). And their only use is to stop Turkey from becoming once again the biggest World power. Europe would rather a weak Turkey over a powerful one. Or rather a destroyed one.
