  • I found the 1995 and 1996 Publix Holiday Commercial. Stupid Youtube won't let me embed it but it's under a generic name of "Publix Supermarket Commercial" and was uploaded a month ago by user, OSPPortland.

  • Comment removed

  • I love this commercial but are they feeding an Army?

  • They really need to put this magic back in rotation. When I was a kid this commercial was to me the start of Christmas. Just pure magic. Nostalgia from the 80s - Early 90s. Its the only thing as of late that's gotten me into the mood for Christmas.

  • ALWAYS brings "HAPPY" tears to my eyes...

  • Thanks for posting sisko, brings back memories for those of us too far away to shop at Publix. Now living up here in "Food Lion country" in southeastern Virginia.

  • @lovethemflowers I went to USF and shopped at Publix a lot. My folks still live in Winter Haven but I am in Northern VA and while Wegman's is a great store, I miss Publix and the people there.

  • Loved this song. I think this commercial made me go out and buy the Pat Matheny CASSETTE tape. That makes this commercial pretty old -- at least fifteen years ago?

  • There are what, 4 adults and 1 little kid there and there is enough food for at least 15 people there. Ha!

Oh well, never mind it's great. Reminds me of my childhood growing up in S. Ga. Such good memories!

  • Wow! This is my favorite Publix commercial ever. It brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. When it came out I had loved ones living in the north and would make me ponder them coming down to Florida for the holidays (on the train). Thanks for posting this. It has been years and years since I've seen this!

  • AH YES!!! THE GOOD OLD DAYS!!

  • With the holidays fast approaching I couldn't get this commercial out of my head. I was even having reoccurring dreams about it and how happy it made me feel as a child; the excitement and anticipation of Christmas. I had to look it up, thanks for posting. Brings back some of the greatest memories of my childhood. Happy Holidays everyone.

  • Wow this commercial brings back crazy memories. I can't believe I still remember it. I actually hum the tune in my head.

  • REMINDS ME OF BEING A CHILD.

  • omg! born & raised in boynton beach fl. 80s baby, & grew up in the 90s. this commerical bring back such great memories of my childhood. i can actually remember looking out for this exact commmerical to air as a signal that the holiday season has offically started in south florida. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE UPLOAD!!

  • @MrMoydy Amen to that friend.. As I live in Vero Beach.. I would look for this commercial as well, thus confirming that the Holidays were here....

  • I've never been on a train trip, must add that to my bucket list!

  • My favorite x mas commercial

  • Holy Sh*t, the little girl (now in her late 20s) is my sister! Go sis!

  • @jerchassen1 Are you serious??? The image of her waking up and lifting her head off her mother's lap to look out the train window always comes back to me around Christmas time! Tell your sister I said GREAT job!

  • child nostalgia

  • My favorite when I was a kid and still is!

  • This totally reminds me of my holidays as a youth in Winter Haven, FL :)

  • love this music

  • I've been looking for this for almost 12 years! I'm 28 now, this song has been in my head forever and makes me feel warm inside...reminds me of my childhood when my parents were together and things were happier and simpler. Since I started using the internet around 1999-2000 I had searched a few times and asked on forums all over about this song and no one knew what it was. I feel so relieved now....

  • @hiphoprabbithole The song is called "Last Train Home" by the Pat Metheny Group. I agree, this was a beautiful commercial. It actually inspired me to take Amtrak home for Christmas on year back in the late '90s! Very heartwarming and it does remind one of simpler times.

  • @GeorgiaKev Crazy how a short commercial can mean so much to people. I remember it all too well.

  • @khodges2 That's the name of the game when it comes to advertising!

  • I grew up in Lakeland and I remember seeing this commercial as a kid. At first I thought they were eating on the train and I wondered how uncomfortable it would be trying to eat Christmas dinner on the train.

  • I remember this!

  • this commercial takes me back 15 years or more. I never dreamed it would be so big in Wayne's life, I love it and will watch it more often now as he is in Chicago. well done!!!!

  • I love this commercial too. As everyone else says the memories it brings back simply cant be replaced....and now Im an engineer for Amtrak!

  • I sought this commercial out when I learned that Pat Metheny's Last Train Home was the soundtrack for it. Excellent song and commercial. It's no wonder it brings back emotions for people; a song from a Grammy-winning album by a 17-Grammy winning artist combined with a well-produced video has that effect. This is art :)

  • This was from when Publix was primarily a Florida grocery store. Their ads had a much more local flavor than they do now that they have expanded to other states. Glad they're successful but I wish they could retain that Florida aspect.

  • Real good holiday magic. I haven't felt the Christmas Spirit this year but after I watch this commercial it really gets me feeling festive.

  • How could two people not like this commercial? They must be Scrooges. This was one of the best commercials ever. Like many of you it brings tears to my eyes. I no longer live there but my parents still do. I'm sorry they don't re-air it. I think it would be a good thing. My parents come to VA now for Christmas but I do remember the year we lost power. I was a senior in college at USF and we ere half-way through cooking that turkey which wound up being ruined. Lots of laughs now.

  • Let the holidays begin! EVERYONE travel safe!

  • I remember the Deep Freeze in Jacksonville in 1989... I also remember fondly this Publix commercial...

  • @hfaponte Yep, I remember the White Christmas we had in Tallahassee that year! Wonderful memory.

  • A couple of other Publix commercials that were memorable used Aaron Neville's "My Greatest Gift" and Bob Marley's "One Love". Publix rocks.

  • That winter, 1989, was the last one my that mom was around. We had a hard freeze over the weekend (that Christmas fell on) , the roads iced up for a couple of days here in Jacksonville, FL, which was unheard of here. We could even scrape up some snowballs. Seems like we had the TV on all the time, and this commercial played throughout the weeks leading up to and including that Christmas weekend. My mom died the next year, December 4, 1990. I can't watch this without crying.

  • @copasetti I can't watch without crying either! The images and that SONG evoke emotion in me like no other commercial I've seen. Brings me back, too, to when my parents and grandmother were still around and holidays were just a little more special. And I remember that hard freeze. We had ice on the car windshields and I live in South Florida. Our power went out on Christmas morning! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.

  • @TerriLW58 I grew up in Tampa and our power went out too!! I was 9 and my sister had just turned 6 and the baby was 21 months old. Us girls were loving it! LOL! :-)

  • @Kimothy80 You can always tell us Floridians---we get excited when it gets cold enough to put a little ice on the car windshield or make the power go out! LOL I remember my mom wasn't too thrilled though. She was just about to put the turkey in the oven when the power cut off. It came back on in time for her to cook it, so Christmas was saved. :)

  • @Kimothy80 ..I remember that!!!

  • @TerriLW58 Wow, I am (pleasantly) surprised that so many people remember this commercial so fondly. "Last Train Home", because of that commercial, will always be a 'soundtrack' of that December for me. Thanks for your kind words! Best wishes to you and your family for the holidays.

  • Comment removed

  • @copasetti I'm so sorry. Remember that your mom lives in you, and the Christmases she helped make special in your childhood, you can pass on to your own children and loved ones.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  • @GeorgiaKev Thanks! You are so right. Merry Christmas back to you and your family!

  • Ditto all the comments here about this commercial. Grew up in Jacksonville and used to visit my grandparents in Holiday, this really does bring it all back. It's weird how it stuck with me over the years.

  • A friend and I were just waxing nostalgic about this commercial and we cannot believe it's sitting here on YouTube. It's so funny how this brings back memories for so many people. For us it was the same, instant flashback to being kids here in Florida back in the early 90s.

  • Its getting that time of year again. :) even though I know Publix won't put this great holiday commercial back in rotation, thank god for youtube.

All I need to do is watch this commercial and its instant holiday cheer.

  • @NuclearMisfit It definitely is! I must admit my eyes get a little moist every time I watch it in late Nov. thru Dec.

  • @NuclearMisfit, I emailed them and asked about it, they told me because they have to pay for advertisement and have permission from PMG to re-air this commerical using that track.

  • @soulfultenor I e-mailed them about it, too, but never got a reply. Publix can certainly afford the money to re-air this commercial and the affection and nostalgia that people have for it would pay off in spades for the company. As for PMG, I can't imagine that they wouldn't allow it to re-air, simply due to the fact that, because of the ad, the sales of this song HAD to have gone up. It's a "win-win" situation. Publix, are you paying attention?

  • I first moved to Orlando in September of 1990. I remember watching this commercial around the Holidays that year. I would see it on Channel 9 in the morning before catching the bus. Natalie Allen was one of the morning anchors. Great commercial.

  • Love this commercial! The memories growing up in Orlando. This takes me back to simple times in my life. Thanks for posting!!!

  • Man I saw "Last Train Home" commercial and expected to see a Lostprophets song used for a commercial for the greatest grocery store ever. INTERNET, I am disappoint.

  • jammin'!.... (ever calmingly)...

  • I L O V E this commercial!! I've kept it in the back of my mind for so many years, wishing I could see it again, has a special meaning to me of course, ....whoever created it must have been a movie producer or something! So glad you posted it! THANKS for making my day!! :)

  • This was the early nineties - interesting to see how many other people remember it. Why, I wonder? I seem to recall it calming me every time it came on back then.

  • *Love* this commercial, nostalgia to-the-max. But not realistic -- who would take a train from a mountainous state (I presume Colorado) all the way to Florida to visit family for Christmas?

  • @cdevidal

I would! It's the best way to see the countryside, and MILES cleaner and comfier than a Greyhound.

  • I remember this from when I was little. Great song. Memorable commercial. Strange, the things that remind us of our childhood.

  • Took me just over 10 years to find this song.I heard it last when i was on my way to school on a transit bus in 1999.I first heard it from this tv ad when i was a kid,now my smooth jazz collection can be completed...thank you

  • Love the warmth of this commercial -- but grandma and grandpa made enough food to feed an army! Ham AND turkey!!! And all those pies! Yikes! Even my grandmother didn't have that much food on hand, and there were 16 of us. Anyway, thanks for posting this. It is beautiful.

  • I've been looking allllll over for this song. AWESOME!

  • Man this brought me back to a christmas in florida in the 90's!

  • when i watch this commercial i remember coming inside from playing & it being very cold coming in the heat is on its christmas the whole house smells like the christmas tree my mom in the kitchen cooking dinner & i remeber sitting on the floor watching tv & when this commercial came on i was two inches from the tv did this just come on in florida lucky us

  • I'm a Florida-born Kentuckian and boy I miss shopping at Publix. I really love Publix and it's so much better than Kroger.

  • Always loved this commercial and the music is lovely (and haunting, too!) Glad we can still enjoy it through youtube!

  • Please someone know the music name? thanks.

  • "Last Train Home" by Pat Metheny.

  • somebody knows the name of the music?? please

  • Thanks very much for posting this!

  • I live here in FL and I have loved this commerical since it first aired! thanks for posting it so I can watch it again and again!

  • me too, I was 11 then living in south florida the song and images, especially the song though, just hypnotized me then. I always looked forward for it to come on and when it did I was glued to the TV. Always remembered it but had not seen it till now, It has been 20 years and now I have a 6 yo boy of my own, and I must say what I just felt watching it again with my son was priceless and another great memory this commercial has brought.

thanks for taking the time to post this. Really Thanks!:-)

  • Thank you for posting this! I used to sit in front of my TV and VCR (back in the day), waiting for this to come on so I could tape it!!

  • Publix is a Florida institution. I can't imagine Florida wthout itsPublix stores.

  • My late grandfather worked for the Seaboard Coast Line.He died from a brain aneurysm on September 11 1979.

  • This song means so much to me and my family! I love this commercial!! Happy Holidays to everyone!! =)

  • That commercial holds true to me my late grandfather worked on the railroad.

  • Well I like to give my condolences about your grandfather even though I don't know when he died, but I wish you & your family A Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

  • Born and raised in Orlando, FL...

This commercial brings back memories of being a kid during Christmas and Thanksgiving...

I miss being a kid and enjoying Christmas and Thanksgiving with my folks

  • I was born & raised in Plant City, FL I do know what you mean about brigin back memories, I miss being a kid also espically at christmas it was always fun

  • @tk582sn Same here man, great memories same in orlando with family when I was a kid remembering this. I think this was a regional commerical for orlando areas.

  • This song makes me feel so warm and happy I wish they would bring this one back.

  • although i wish they would bring it back also, i think its better left alone, kind of like a treasure we all once experienced

  • I remember this commercial, brings back some good memories when I lived in FL back in the late 80s and early 90s :)

  • One of the best Christmas commercials and by far the best that Publix ever produced. Brings back some great early 90's memories of the Yuletide season in Ft. Lauderdale.

  • Oh, this should be re-aired this Christmas! Funny to get nostalgic about a commercial, but this one's a classic.

  • hahaha I kno what u mean

  • Hmm, I remember the song but I don't remember that particular commercial.

  • This commerical brings memories when I lived in florida, and worked at Publix as a stockmen.

  • This song is timeless!

  • There are some moments in one's life where you wish time could be frozen. I will always cherish the life I enjoyed during the early 90s in FL.

  • very similar story :) raised near tampa... left to move up to atlanta in the late 90s in my early teens. still have some old christmas season movies recorded on vhs with this commercial on it and MAN does it bring back memories

  • well said, as I listen to this for the 20th time reading all the comments of the people who were touched by this commercial, all comments were good and all got stars but I had to stop and tell you this :)

  • WOW

I remember seeing this commercial for the firsr time when we moved to Florida over 19 years ago when I was a little kid. Loved it then love it now. Brings back alot of memories.

  • OK, stupid question. No need for insults from people who can't spell.

  • What's the name of the song on this one? Another one I remember fondly is the one from about 1993 with the little girl dreaming and Peggy Lee singing "The Christmas Waltz."

  • Last Train Home by Pat Metheney(sp?)

I remember that Christmas Waltz commercial too. I loved the Publix Christmas commercials when I lived in Winter Haven in the mid-80's while finishing college. Folks still live there.

  • They ought to make one where everybody ignores grandma and grandpa and leaves the table to answer their cell phones. Much closer to modern reality.

  • love this commercial!!

  • Brings back such memories when i was a teen in florida and what i love is that it was simple and whishing happy holidays and not pushing the goods but just a because commercial, marketing genius!

  • I remember this commercial when I was younger..

  • *sigh* i thought i was da only one who was impacted by this commercial..the song & visuals are pefection! youtube is such a great time capsule!

  • Even today's Publix commercials are no match for the older ones, such as THIS one---my all-time favorite. I tear up every time I replay this. It brings back such warm memories of the time period, when people I loved were still alive and holidays were truly special. I'm so thankful to the person who placed this video on here!

  • great commercial

  • Great great video! Thank You for taking me back to my childhood. Reminds me of the magical times I've had with my parents. I miss the early 90s. Never thought a commercial would make me emotional.

  • I lived in fla all my life till 1999, then NY, train scene reminds me of the hudson line up here...awesome commercial...trivia...the only grocery store in america that has NEVER laid off an employee!

  • I love this commercial...it has stayed with me for years :)

  • I'm not from FL but I'm a grocery store Mgr. in da Chicago burbs, & I love Pat Metheny and this song. It's such a feel good song

  • aww.. I miss the Publix commercials. I moved out of the country and they don't do justice over here like they did back home. Even down to the little things like this.. commercials. ha! Who woulda' ever guessed that this was a type of luxury. ; )

  • I used to work for the company I was hired in 93 I stayed with them until 95 when I graduated from highschool. Whooh wat memories I used to hear this song in the store all the time.

  • I loved this commercial when I was a kid. Publix does some great commercials, and this one is no exception.

  • Oh My Freaking God!!! I found the commercial!!!

  • This commercial always brings tears to my eyes! I guess it reminds me of what was and what might have been!!

  • I also remember this video from when I was younger. I am going to be taking a train to visit my mom for the holidays this year, so I sent my mom an MP3 of Pat Metheny's "Last Train Home" (the song in this video), which made me think of this commercial. I'm so glad you have it up here! (I always loved hearing the music in this commercial when it came on. It was only some years later, when I discovered Pat Metheny's music, that I connected the dots.)

  • There was another Publix Christmas commercial that had singing. I believe it was release after this one (1987-1993?)The beginning of the song went like this. "The precious feeling..."

  • I remember that too, but I thought it was the Rosemary Clooney "Christmas Waltz". Maybe there are three? Anyway, this is still my favorite.

  • This is my memory of how the Publix Holiday Commercials went by year until I moved from Florida in 2000.

1991 and 1994: Last Train Home

    1992 and 1993: Christmas Waltz

1995 and 1996: Precious Feeling (I wish someone knew the title of the song)

1997-2000: Conspiracy (It's on Youtube under this title).

    I love the Publix commercials.

  • I had to be about 7 or 8 when this commercial came out. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Wow, have to echo what so many of you said. I went to USF in Tampa and remember this commercial from my college days. My folks still live in FL but I don't remember seeing it the last few holidays.

This commercial has to be at least 15 years old if not older. I used to tell people about this commercial too and once in awhile I'd run into someone who remembered it and we always would say it would bring a tear to our eyes. Please don't ever remove it.

    It's early I know-Happy Holidays!

  • Almost 25 years. One of the parts of growing up for me.

  • Comment removed

  • I've lived here in FL all of my life and have told friends from all over the country about this commercial. Now thanks to You Tube they can watch it. I was also hoping someone out there has some of the Pilgrim Pair commercials that used to air every year at Thanksgiving.

  • yeah it sure did, I remember that also I was about 13 or 14 the 1st time I saw this Commercial

  • Here I am in Colorado, seeing snow in the mountains and missing this commercial I used to see in Florida... this commercial should be a mainstay of the company...

  • I concur with many of the sentiments expressed. Bizarre how a TV commercial can stir emotions. For me it was holidays spent in Florida at college when I couldn't get back up north to be with my family. I've been out of the state for 10 years, but this silly commercial takes me back every time I watch it. DON'T REMOVE THIS ONE!!!

  • WAO! I wish I had a copy of this commercial here at home. This commercial means a lot to me and I love the fact that I found it here on you tube..Please never remove this video. Only those who at the time watch this commercial know it's true meaning and value. Thank you...I'm always going to stop and watch it even more now that the holidays are around the corner.

  • Holy Thanksgiving, Batman. This commercial was on the air when I was like 4 or 5, and now I'm 24, and I've been humming this tune in my head and thinking of the Amtrak ever since! It has never left my mind for long. Thanks for posting this, it really made me happy to see it and hear it again. :) Happy Holidays even though it's only September.

  • Metheny even.

  • Here it is being performed live by the Pat Metheney group, who I assume wrote it.

Remove the underscore between . & com

  • Thanks for posting this. I always thought this was really a cool track, though I don't know what it is.

  • Publix should really bring this commercial back into rotation, its a holiday classic. I miss it. Even in August.

  • I also remember this Publix commercial from years back. I miss it. I wish they still played it. I've always thought it was Publix's best holiday commercial. I guess even as crappy as I think FL is now it's worth having grown up here to have gotten to see the commercial. Good song, good commercial.

  • I work in construction in Atlanta at the moment. An Amtrak comes by every morning and I always wave and wonder... Thanx for posting...

  • Yes....thanks for posting this. It sure puts you in the spirit...even in August.

  • Where I lived when I was about 8 years old, a train would pass nearby early in the morning before the sun was up. I always imagined the ppl on the train were having fantastic Christmas dinners with this song playing. I also imagined snow on the ground around the train track, but living in Florida, I should have known better. Memories!! :D

  • Hah, I used to hum along to this all the time when I was younger. I also used to make the motion with my arms like you would see on old steam engines. I was so lame!

  • Oh man...this brings back memories!

    Thanks for posting!

  • I remember this commercial. This was around Christmas 1998 or so. The Weather Channel also used this song about the same time.

  • I must admit this commercial inspired me to take a train home one year for Christmas back in the '90s. I wonder if this ad benefited Amtrak more than it did Publix!

I sincerely hope that trains will always be a part of America's culture....that, and Christmas.

  • I have read all 52 comments.

I share the same sentiments of many of them.

One thing I would like to add that no one else has:

I think the wonderful feeling you get from the song is because of the beautiful combination of a slow melody with

    an extremely fast beat.

    It's kind of other-worldly-ish.

    It takes you away.

I remember not only the commercial but also listening to the song on The Wave 102.5.

  • damn,i was trying to explain this commercial to my best friend, but simply couldnt...how i longed to hear it after these many years since ive heard it regularly, growing up as a child...wow...i almost shed a tear...what a great and memorable song...born and raised, south florida davie boy...(sigh)the good times...good times.

  • I have not heard this song for over 20 years! Anyone remember the name of the group?? Please help! And Thanks!

    ~Ari

  • It's "Last Train Home" by Pat Metheny.

  • I have not heard this song for over 20 years! Anyone remember the name of the group?? Please help! And Thanks!

    ~Ari

  • Oh my gosh I love this commercial. I think I watch this video at least once a day. Holidays are over but the commercial bring good memories.

  • I loved this commercial !!!!!!!!!

  • A number of years ago I went to Sacremento from Hanford to see the train museum. Great experience.

  • Reminds me of living in South Florida... now in Colorado. Boy, do I miss grocery stores that sell wine! Merry Christmas everyone!

  • They don't sell wine in Colorado grocery stores? Is that a law there or something?

  • Against the law... they have funky alcohol laws here. They can sell beer (7 days a week)in convenience and grocers but it can only be 3.2% beer... stock up for the holidays at liquor stores!

But we do have microbrews that pack a punch and when you're skiing at altitude... watch out! :)

  • Where did you live in S.FL.? I'm in MIA but used to live in North Carolina.

  • Lived in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach counties. Lived in Miami Lakes when I was in Dade (went to law school at Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauderdale).

  • Best Holiday Commercial Ever !

    Happy Holidays to Everyone!

  • cont from last post:

I think this commercial is so great because it reminds us to be grateful for the people in our lives and everything that we have.

  • The song is called "Last Train Home" by the Pat Metheny Group, i have it on my ipod. Its such an amazing song you can hear the trains whistles. Nothing can beat this song.

Its ashame they cant keep this commercial going every year on tv but i guess they have to make their newer traditions ie: the Pilgrims, Snowman. Ill say it again what a fantastic commercial.

  • Oh my lord...

I grew up in Fl, but now live in MN. I left in 1998, and I have to say that I am truly homesick.

Thanks for posting this and bringing back so many good memories of my home.

  • It certainly puts you in the holiday spirit. I always loved that commercial....the music, the train and images of family. So cool.......

  • I just posted this to family members who don't live near a Publix:

You'll see the reason that year after year, Publix fills our pantry, our fridge and our hearts. We $upport companies like Publix who spend their own money to remind the world about the family traditions that brought all of us to the table every year.

And - you can't beat their Key-Lime Pie! Maureen - get that recipe!

  • This is my favorite holiday commercial, brings back memories of my childhood of the best holidays. It isnt Christmas till i see this commercial.

  • Greatest commercial ever.

  • Growing up in Florida, you go to Publix alot, because it seems like we have one on every corner. What a great store, always clean and easy to get to. I loved getting a choc. chip cookie from the bakery when I was a kid. Wonder if they still do that?

  • @ greenhat

Yes, they do. My kids prefer the sugar cookies but you can get chocolate chip too.

  • Oh my Good God, I have been thinking of this song and commercial for years. I live in Miami, all my life and this ad is the most full of love and feelings ever. I would cry at a the very beginning of this song. Thank you so much for posting this, it means so much.. now I know the name and can go and buy it. Thank you again.

  • The song is called "Last Train Home", and Publix released it (along with a number of other songs from their commercials) on a CD called "Fresh Beats". You used to be able to buy it in the stores, but I'm not sure if you can anymore.

If you can't, I have an MP3 of this song, if anyone wants it. Send me a PM and I'll send you a download link.

  • I loved this commercial - from 1991 or so, I think! Thanks so much for posting it!

  • Thanks for this video It Remind me of the greatest time in my childhood..............
