I put this on during Dungeons and Dragons when the group reached a town. I've been playing SNES music for literally years, but this one stopped them dead in their tracks for a minute.
The problem with music nowadays I can't say the same about videogame music but it is emotionless most of it maybe not all of it and for stuff like RnB its only preserved for the vocals alot of the reptitive notes and beats in popular music seem lifeless and emotionless it is utter crap after digested people will notice its not timeless.
It's a shame there arne't many good games like this anymore. The new ones have awsome graphix, but with RPGs, there arne't many left. Only FF13 coming up, FF10 was dissapointing to my friends. FF11 requires high speed internet connection. I like the old ones, and FF7. I'm not saying that all new new games are bad, but not many new idea games are that good, and neither is the music. Final Fantasy 13 might be good, and it's still popular after so long. It'll be a antique, and be remembered 4ever.
Part of the problem is the music. Nowadays, it seems composers want to take an easy out and make ambient symphonic music. I miss the raw power of old sound chips, because back then, the composers put their all into the song. Now with all the updated technology, it seems they got lazy. I mean, if they want to use realistic symphonic style, then it shouldn't be ambience, it should be more musical and melodic like Castlevania: SoTN. Also, emphasis on drum and bass were a big part of what was good.
I think another part of the problem is big companies. They're too rich. Instead of making the music, they can afford the technology, which goes into what you're saying. I think they're aiming towards perfection, but missing the point. Like robots, they can do anything, but miss out the point of existing as fully mobile. No emotion, or life. Which is what you could say about modern songs, although some are still good, even if done by technology. It's a shame that it could be impossible to record
I agree. No one can be perfect, and we lose our soul trying to be so. That is the crux of the issue. The companies, composers, etc. have lost what is most important: Soul.
Yeah. They must've lost their soul. You've said about losing our soul being perfect (if possible to be). But these days, like rap (I don't know much of modern music/youth music) They couyld say they poured their sould into it. Some people find that true. But to me, it's the same try of perfection in music. It doesn't make sense to me, and I hate rap, so forgive me if I'm wrong. But these days, you don't need soul. To succeed in some places, all you need is a beat, it's too simple for me.
You two are right in your opinions, very much. These 8 and 16 bit console tunes need to be placed in some type of music vault or music history institution.
Also there is another reason for such a switch in music composition; video games try to compete with Hollywood motion pictures. Kinda takes the originality away from the raw video game feel, but marketing a product is all about presentation, not so much as 'soul' anymore... =(
I agree to an extent. I would say it was a simple game, but the music in this game is still better than the soundtracks of just about anything produced nowadays. I haven't taken the time to listen to every piece in this game, but listen to the battle music, and the boss fight music. Those songs are up there with the wonderful songs in the games you mentioned. As for final fantasy, I would say that up to final fantasy 6 had good music, and went downhill after that. 7 was just ok.
When I say simple I dont rule out that they are good, I like them, got a bit repetitive whilst playing, but definitely some good songwriting there.
However, i have to shout at you for not acknowledging the music of ff 10, if you havent played this game with its wonderful music and story, go buy and play it all before you reply to me :)
I have indeed played it. Pardon me for disagreeing with you, but I was thoroughly disappointed with FF10's soundtrack. It was a good game. I would have had more fun playing it if it had even FF1's soundtrack instead. The best examples of FF music in my opinion, are FF4 and 6. Also, the Final Fantasy Legend games 1,2, and 3 had better soundtracks in my opinion than any FF game after 6. I don't mind you shouting at me, we just have fundamentally different preferrences in music style :)
Music is awesome. Ambience is also okay, just play Banjo Kazooie or Donkey Kong Country. I do see what you mean though. Most games today don't have as good music. It's either bullets flying, orchestrated, or licensed music from movies. The only series today that I play that really stay true to the old style are Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario RPG series, Nintendo's big franchises, Tales series, and most RPGs on the DS.
Ha! same here. I remember getting really frustrated with this game, but in the end I managed to beat it. It's an easy game, but not for a 6 year old. Ahh memories. . .

Problem with the video game industry is that they now see Cinema as the highest form of art, instead of trying to be art themselves.

True, but this is like one of the simplest games and pieces of music around...
A better example would have been chrono trigger, secret of mana or some later final fantasies.
