I always wondered, why not heat the neck, expand it, let it cool down, place the ship in then re-heat and shrink it back. Probably very risky as you might just burn everything (but possible to avoid that altogether with some simple chemical tricks)
Still, you will be able to fit a ship in a bottle that has a neck too small for its body to squeeze in.
I recently had a failure because I made my epoxy "ocean" too thick. When I popped the masts, I was lacking about an eighth of an inch. Moving on :) thanks for this video!!! Gonna start a new one tomorrow.
Hey, but how do you cut the threads off then? Lol great vid though. That man seems so nice and expert... I wish I knew someone like that to teach me how to build one of these. Very cool!
@PaulzYou I believe that one was made in many parts, over 50, I just happened to read an article on it. Built by Phil Mattson. I make ships in bottles as well but don't know if I really have the patience to attempt one of those!
did anyone else cringe when he was using the saw?

Just a thought, thanks for the video.

how do you think I got the ship so small? getting it in the bottle has nothing to do with shrinking it...

I would just use a shrink ray. LOL

@mp4podcastDOTcom
You'd need a Giantic Ray too to make it bigger, TO EXPENSIVE!

some people actually build the ships while it's inside the bottle, making the ships alot bigger and wider than the opening hole of the bottle.

Great video, and a good example of an impossible bottle! Take a look at:
impossiblebottle.co.uk
This guy has some beautiful bottles for sale, including sealed decks and padlocks!

With a razor blade attached to a piece of a coat hanger or dowel, that's how. Great video I happen to make ships in bottles too!
hgrogers85 1 year ago
@hgrogers85 Or heat up the end of one of your wires so it burns the string. If you use fishing line it would probably work even better.

I built star trek ship ships in bottles . The hardest part is the saucer section.
ferret7463 2 years ago
@ferret7463 I've been thinking about building a Starship-In-A-Bottle. What did you do to make the saucer sections work out?

So the questions remain, how do you cut the threads off?

@jamescgale LOL. The video is "how to put a ship in a bottle " and not "how to get rid of the threads."

The best and most realistic way is to sow them onto the mast or rigging

One of life's little mysteries solved. Now, can you put an egg in one? I might give this a try if I have the patience to do it. (one day).
