In Europe,Australia and New Zealand it was called the Sega (Seega) Mega Drive while in America it was the Sega (Sayga) Genesis, think it was Mega Drive in Japan too.I remember the first time I heard Genesis I didnt know what that was.
@WebVMan They only gave your region that stupid name of ''Genesis'' because Americans wanted to be different to the rest of the world. Mega Drive sounds fierce and tough while Genesis sounds like shit! If anything the name Genesis is more copyrighted than Mega Drive, it was already the name of an 80's pop group for starters.
It's pronounced ''SEGA'' with an E sound not SAYGAH with an A sound. The Sonic games in the start up also pronounced it ''SEGA'' with an E sound so all you people that pronounce it with an A sound are the true weirdos.
No we don't hahahahaha. We don't pronounce things "weirdly" we pronounce them differently to Americans because, get this, American's aren't always right!
You pronounce Sega as Sayga which is just ridiculous to us.
Actually it's pronounced "Saay-Ga!", or at least that's how it's spelled in ASM code in Sonic disassemblies. And now I only have 2 genesis, I gave one to my fiancée, because i'm a nice guy.
I have three genesis (i live in america, where Sega decided to change the name of our system from Mega Drive to Genesis, which I always wondered why they did that) including a 32x and CD. By far, Sega was much better than Nintendo. I'd rather have a Genesis (Mega Drive) system than a SNES. And this commercial is really awesome!
Mega Drive was the name used in Japan and Europe, while it was sold under the name Sega Genesis in North America, as Sega was unable to secure legal rights to the Mega Drive name in that region.
This console was by far the most awesome I have ever owned, shame SEGA destroyed it by bringing out endless add-ons that had crap games and didn't work.
couldn't agree more. The Mega CD signalled the death of the MD while SEGA were developing the Saturn to stop kids jumping ship to Nintendo, who were in talks with Sony to produce a CD add-on for the SNES.
Talks broke down and Sony created the PlayStation, which killed the SNES and SEGA in one fell swoop.
I find the name "Genesis" to be too Biblical, and the name "Mega Drive" to be bland, primitive, childish and yet has a sexual innuendo, if you know what I mean.
