  • In Europe,Australia and New Zealand it was called the Sega (Seega) Mega Drive while in America it was the Sega (Sayga) Genesis, think it was Mega Drive in Japan too.I remember the first time I heard Genesis I didnt know what that was.

  • @MPT1983 It was only called gensis in America, it was megadrive in Europe.

  • Genesis pwns Mega Drive. I mean that name does. Sega Mega Drive? Just because it rhymes doesn't mean it's good.

  • @WebVMan They only gave your region that stupid name of ''Genesis'' because Americans wanted to be different to the rest of the world. Mega Drive sounds fierce and tough while Genesis sounds like shit! If anything the name Genesis is more copyrighted than Mega Drive, it was already the name of an 80's pop group for starters.

  • It's pronounced ''SEGA'' with an E sound not SAYGAH with an A sound. The Sonic games in the start up also pronounced it ''SEGA'' with an E sound so all you people that pronounce it with an A sound are the true weirdos.

Only Japan, Australia and Italy say it properly.

  • @Adam060756 Well on the Sonic games i played on the Megadrive was Say-gah (Sega) :3

  • @inferndragon If you listen carefully they say ''SEGA'' in the start ups to the Sonic games. There's no SAYGAH. It's an E sound.

  • @Adam060756 Probably different sounds for different countries... :P

  • "with thousands of colors"

    more like 64 colors.

  • was the mega drive2 relsed in usa

  • The best Megadrive ad purely aimed at kids. Unlike other freaky and 'creative' ads trying to show you something else than gaming.

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS "SEE GUH"? And who's the moron who hired the voice over guy who can't pronounce the client's name properly?

  • SEEGA

  • the Amiga and Megadrive are the two best computer systems. Fuck Microsoft and Sony

  • the games were just so enjoyable then unlike now they are much better but their is just not the same level of enjoyment.

  • "from Seeega" ? wtf ? lol

  • Only thousands of colours? sheesh :P

  • "10-channel mega stereo sound" - does that even make sense?

  • FROM SEENA!

  • I hated it when people said Seega. Everyone at school did it back in the day >=o

  • @Android18a I had a fight with a kid on holiday once over how it's pronounced.

I had dreams about it. "At last".

  • LOL, Seega!

  • IN THE UNIVERSE

  • Seega!

  • lol 16 bit

  • xbox YEAH

  • ZOMG, 16 BIT TECHNOLOGY!!!

  • Seega? Wait, what?

  • Australians say some things rather weirdly. They can't say Domestos either, they say "Domes-toes".

  • No we don't hahahahaha. We don't pronounce things "weirdly" we pronounce them differently to Americans because, get this, American's aren't always right!

You pronounce Sega as Sayga which is just ridiculous to us.

  • Siga Jonosis Does What Nyntundo'nt

im getting an intel celeron pc soon :)

    wait.....im in 1994! heeeeeeeelp! d.i.a.l.up

  • Siga?

  • You're saying it wrong...it's Seeguh.

  • Actually it's pronounced "Saay-Ga!", or at least that's how it's spelled in ASM code in Sonic disassemblies. And now I only have 2 genesis, I gave one to my fiancée, because i'm a nice guy.

  • Now we know why she is marrying you.

I don't know how they could claim it to be the best gaming console in the universe though...did they really check everywhere???

  • @FuManBoobs No, that's what the guy in the advertisement said, but it's SUPPOSED to be Seh gaa

  • I have three genesis (i live in america, where Sega decided to change the name of our system from Mega Drive to Genesis, which I always wondered why they did that) including a 32x and CD. By far, Sega was much better than Nintendo. I'd rather have a Genesis (Mega Drive) system than a SNES. And this commercial is really awesome!

  • From wiki:

Mega Drive was the name used in Japan and Europe, while it was sold under the name Sega Genesis in North America, as Sega was unable to secure legal rights to the Mega Drive name in that region.

  • Plus the US Snes looked gay as fuck and had ONLY purple buttons :p

I much preferred the European Snes.

  • A fair comment - I always thought the US SNES looked rubbish as well.

  • lol...see-ga

  • can you immagine going back to that time and showing people playstation 3, they would burn you like a witch.

  • He should look at playstation 3 then

  • This console was by far the most awesome I have ever owned, shame SEGA destroyed it by bringing out endless add-ons that had crap games and didn't work.

  • couldn't agree more. The Mega CD signalled the death of the MD while SEGA were developing the Saturn to stop kids jumping ship to Nintendo, who were in talks with Sony to produce a CD add-on for the SNES.

Talks broke down and Sony created the PlayStation, which killed the SNES and SEGA in one fell swoop.

  • holy crap, i cant believe i even bothered to watch this.

  • thousands of colours? you mean a 512 colour pallete with a total of 64 on screen colours right?

  • This pile of poo only had 64 colours lol

  • actually it had 512, but it could only display 64 simultaniously

  • I got a sega megadrive II and i got 103 games with 4 controller adapter which came with 4 controllers my fav games of all is Sonic MK3 and Shinobi 3

  • FROM SEEGA

  • 16 bit whoooh

  • They make it look like it can't handle gameplay with steam coming out of it.

They should have made they commercial using Sonic The Hedgehog.

  • See-gah? My parents always said that

  • i like both names, mega drive has the "MEGA!!!" which makes it sounds phat. whereas gensis has that revolutionary kinda cool tone to it :)

to bad sega kinda just died :(

  • in 1992 the snes was the ultimate 16bit machine, not the megadrive, tho i do like the megadrive better.

  • its duong!

  • SEGA GENESIS or MEGA DRIVE

    HAHAHAHAHA

    AUS VS USA!!!

  • mega drive is a way better name than genesis

  • 10 channel mega stereo sound? DAYME!

  • 16 bit graphics too! DAAAAAYME!

  • "Seeega" gets really annoying after a while.. God help the startup on sonic the hedgehog

    "SEEEEEEEEEEEEEGAHHH!"

  • Yes, on this advert he says "SEE-GA" But on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 start-up It says "SAY-GA" So, which way of pronouce is it?

  • its DEFENTLY say ga

  • See-Gah is the pronunciation of Sega in Italy and Australia.

  • um

    im aussie

  • what is a mega drive

    i thought it was gensis

  • i think it's named different in different countries

mega drive sounds more powerful tho:P

  • I find the name "Genesis" to be too Biblical, and the name "Mega Drive" to be bland, primitive, childish and yet has a sexual innuendo, if you know what I mean.

But I like the silver Mega Drive logo.

  • megadrive was released b4 the genesis wich sonic was released for then the genesis came after

  • genesis is the american name, mega drive was already a copyrighted name in America so Sega America had to think of a new name for it

  • @92Jets

it was only ever called the genesis in america

everywhere else, it was called the mega drive

  • Certainly an Aussie advert...

SEEGA! There simply aint no other way to pronounce it that mighty game company!!!

  • SO POWERFUl lol

  • It said Sega as "seega" and not "say-guh" AND it overestimated the amount of colours that the system could produce

  • That's how it's pronounced in Australia

  • Outstanding!

  • and it was not 92 it must of been 1990

  • was this a uk ad

  • dono if its ever showed in the uk, this was recorded in australia :)
