@randomPirateX Most PS3 games now run on 720p. You need to adjust your HDMI input settings on your HDTV first, then power up the PS3. Go to Display Output settings, choose HMDI, then Automatic. If not, you can manually choose 720p to "match" your TV settings.

@strarabjt unplug the tv, and everything in the back of the ps3. then plug the HDMI chord, power chord on teh ps3 and turn your tv on again. and check your HDMI channels when you press tv/video.. one of them is gonna say HDMI detected ,just click yes.. thts how i got mines it might do the same 4 u

This was not the problem for me! Here was my problem:

My tv didnt have hdmi settings on. get out your owners manual, my sony tv had the hdmi settings turned off so when i turned it on, changed the output settings of the ps3 to hdmi the screen went black then i changed the input to hdmi and it worked!
