  • Raw takes longer for your camera to process though right?

  • Forget my last comment, I have found the brush and gradient tools! I'm sold. Thanks.

  • In Raw you have to adjust all of the image, in Photoshop you can mask areas off? So when I only want to correct the sky for example? Or am I missing something?

  • Scott I love you dude I can not explain in words how much your books, apps and just watching you in general has helped me!!

  • I think in order to shoot RAW I should atleast know how to use photoshop.

  • What are 'sliders' ??

  • I was optomistic and shot RAW & JPEG it only ever filled my memore card...RAW is way better and have been converted

  • You're selling me on this RAW thing. I love that you have so much more creative freedom!

  • That was some HOW TO -torial video....

  • Perfectly said....thank you

  • You need a camera that can shoot raw. If you have a point and shoot most will only allow you to shot jpeg.

  • @themortalimmortal34 I have a superzoom point and shoot and it offers RAW and it looks 2x better than jepg, at times almost comparable to a dslr qualiity

  • @themortalimmortal34 actually every camera will shoot raw except maybe cell phones

  • @0SKBooth0 and almost all point and shoots do not have RAW

  • @themortalimmortal34 All cameras shoot raw, it's how the camera company set the firmware to save in compressed/uncompressed format. There are some cheap point and shoots that allow raw saved files.

  • How do I shoot in RAW? All my images on my camera download as Jpeg?

  • @retepvosnul RAW basically gives you a do-over in case your camera settings were less than perfect in any way. Most pros shoot RAW because they realize nobody, including themselves, are perfect. This is especially important in event photography, because the pro is shooting under widely varying lighting conditions (i.e. setting sun, mixed incandescant/fluorescent/sunlight) that he has no control over AND under time pressure.

I'm glad you shoot perfectly under perfect conditions, everytime.

  • @valleyboy314 LOL! Pros dont use RAW just to "fix" their mistakes! RAW is used so that the processing can be done later to a high standard rather than allowing the in-camera random processing to do a crappy job guessing what the picture should've looked like!

  • OK I guess you know nothing about raw and jpgs.

The speed and ease comes from real time editing and seeing it happen in real time. Photoshop you have to wait for the filter to run and if its not right, you have to undo and start again. Raw captures everything and jpg is base on what the camera decides to finish it. If you blow out an area in jpg its gone and camera raw you can recover it. Each to their own and you can this as a grain of salt.

  • RAW has nothing to do with speed or ease of use... Raw is simply a file format - whether you're using in a photoshop (destructive editing) or lightroom (non-destructive). This video is misleading.

  • Great video... if I wanted to know WHY to shoot raw.

  • You can use camera raw on jpeg's and have all the instant-ness of the sliders.

  • With all due respect to the "brilliance of Scott Kelby"......I had expected to learn how to shoot RAW, but this narration did nothing of the kind. So, I continue my quest on "How to shoot Raw"......( I hope there's something on it on youtube....here...)

  • @SalPedi What do you mean how? It's a setting in the camera much like how fine or course you want your jpgs.

  • I guess I'll be shooting in RAW now >.> lol

  • Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SOOOO True. I'm only now moving from using a semi-professional camera to a DSLR and the difference in quality using RAW vs JPED.... it's vast. Camera RAW is a breeze and is so useful for retouching and restoring little discrepencies. I'm in love. You can even use Camera Raw on JPEGS and get a pretty nice effect

  • @Ichorose Can you please help me ? i can't open images in Camera Raw (JPEG files) i see the button i just can't click it. im using Photoshop cs5

  • @Hjorten95 In cs5 do 'open as' select your jpeg, then in the box below choose raw.

  • @poofacepooface1 Thanks !

  • @poofacepooface1 Hmm i think something is wrong. the pictures that i edited in Raw, is now getting opened in raw with the settings i saved it with. i can't open the original photo !

  • @Hjorten95 you may need to save it with a new file name, other wise it will probably over wright the old one.

  • @Hjorten95 Sorry to reply so late! Basically you go into edit, then to the bottom "file handing", then camera raw in Photoshop. When you do this you should see a drop down menu where it says Disable for JPEG. You wanna put it on to support all JPEG. Then it should work
