This completely takes me back to my childhood. I was only 6 years old when the Sound of Music came out, but I still have the record (vinyl) and this was the first music I truly loved. My grandmother had the Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison record from My Fair Lady and I have that too. I learned to sing by belting it out like Ms. Andrews and sang soprano in high school. I have now lost my upper register as well. I miss those days...
Lol. Don't be jealous. I lost my iPod in the snow, and shovelled like 500 metres of snow to search for it, from I think a little past midnight to 1am, and still didn't find it, and I'd saved money from grade 4 till grade 12, to buy it. Snow isn't always nice :P Though I generally love snow.
whenever i'm sad, depressed, tired and stressed out, i just watch The Sound of Music and i automatically feel better afterwards... it's like a therapy to me, Julie Andrews has this certain charm and aura which is very warm and relaxing, it's so hard to explain it but i'm sure you feel and experience it as well every time you see her.
Oh her voice is the voice of angles. Its too bad it was ruined by the idiot surgeon. Her voice is just as amazing in Princess Diaries:Royal Engagement
I think as an exception we can attach the word 'perfect' to this lovely lady :) I wish we still wore beautiful clothes like that, I'm tired of my jeans. N
I think as an exception we can attach the word 'perfect' to this lovely lady :) I wish we still wore beautiful clothes like that, I'm tired of my jeans. N
JULIE ANDREW'S VOICE IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE TIMELESS! IT IS AS MUCH A LIVE TREASURE AND THING OF BEAUTY AS THE MONA LISA IS A TREASURE OF ART! THE DIFFERENCE=JULIE CAN SING TO US AND IMPART JOYFUL MUSIC!
SHE DOES EXACTLY THAT IN THIS JOY-FILLED TIMELESS VIDEO!!! SIMPLY LOVELY!!
One of my big regrets and wishes is that I wish Julie Andrews could have made more musicals. Our society was so stupid at that time, and thought musicals weren't cool enough. We should have given Julie Andrews as much movie musical work as she wanted.
It's our loss. These movies will last forever...unlike so many crap movies out there.
Julie Andrews should have been in "My Fair Lady." That wasn't fair to put a non-singing actress into the movie. Audrey Hepburn is pretty and a good actress, but this shouldn't have been her movie. It's a musical.
Whoever made that decision should have been fired..it was a horrible move.
@CamramanidiotCIA Not quite. Producer Jack Warner apparently thought she wasn't famous enough to guarantee ticket sales. Apparently Audrey Hepburn initially protested against his decision and asked that he cast Julie as Eliza. But she eventually accepted the role when Warner threatened to cast Liz Taylor instead. Since Julie wasn't offered the role, she decided to do Mary Poppins.
Julie must have felt stung then, but she still achieved greatness anyway with her shining talent.
It still makes me sad a little when I hear her sing since she had that botched surgery she just never was the same again, she lost her soprano voice due to that surgery making her never able to sing again, we have videos like this thankfully but still, such a beautiful person, actress and singer lost one of her true loves and that has to be hard on anyone.
Well I just can't say it enough... Julie Andrews has always inspired me. She has tought me to become what I am. If we didn't have Julie, I don't know where I would be. Her voice gives me the chills and her beauty makes me overly jealous I must admit. What an incredible human being with such delight. I couldn't imagine what it would be like without her.
Julie Andrews is such an amazing actress and singer, Hollywood could learn a thing or two from this magnificent lady! Her beautiful voice makes me smile, I could listen to her singing all day long. Some record label out there should make an album or soundtrack of her most famous songs.
She is the definition of class, elegance, and sophistication...attributes that are hard to find in many singers and actresses nowadays.
Do you believe that in he first screen tests she was judged unfilmakable? She looks gorgeous!!! And her voice was astonishing!!!
It was a pity she never decided to record "I could have danced all night" again after 1958, when her voice became just a little bigger and more mature. She was a great Eliza anyway... ;-)
Absolutely beautiful!!! Don't get me wrong, I loved Marni Nixon's voice in My Fair Lady... but hearing Julie sing it made it so much more...magical, I guess. :D Practically perfect in every way.
There just never was any other voice like hers -- so beautiful, so pure! And back then you didn't have to be half naked and do sexually explicit dancing in order to get on TV. All you had to do was have a beautiful voice & face. Nowadays beautiful voices seem to be optional.
Funny, I watched the Sound of Music as a child and thought this "old" woman was fantastic as was she in Mary Poppins. Today, I am 48 years old and see this "old" woman so very young. As a child you just never think of getting old...but it does happen and seemingly overnight. Life is really just too short.
@KitchenQueen09 I'm sure she would if she could. after her injury, she aid that she's come to accept that she can't sing like before...
I saw an interview she did for a movie (i think it was princess diaries) where she spoke about not being able to sing etc. She said she has accepted the fact that she can't sing anymore after the injury, but her eyes had that 'longing' glint...
but like you said, it would be great if she still does though.
Thank God her voice is amazing, the tablecloth-looking skirt is awful, much worse than the outfit she wore in The Sound of Music when leaving the abbey for the 1st time.
This is from a Television special she made in 65, called the Julie Andrews Show...Promotion for the Sound Of Music/Also at the Height of the Julie Andrews Frenzy.
What a special being... Thank you for being Julie Andrews!
