I watch this sketch at least once a day since I first found it! They're humour is really transcendent (Im Canadian born in the 90's so I have no idea who Joan Collins or this type of talk show is).
@lynxvex Aww, I'm so glad you love it so much! I only know Joan Collins through Dynasty, an 80s, American soap opera. I've never seen the kind of show that they're referencing either, but they're so good at what they do I feel like it translates no matter what. There's loads of French & Saunders DVDs out if you wanna see more stuff of theirs!
This sketch has actually little to do with Joan Collins and a lot to do with the vapid celebrity interviewers who filled British TV in the 80s. Joan is merely a conduit for F&S's spot on humor. Love it!
Exactly. Joan tends to have a self-deprecating sense of humor. Jennifer Saunders was worried about Joan's reaction to her when in the 90s they worked together on the Brannagh film, A Mid-Winter's Tale," because of parody skits like "Lucky Bitches." Jennifer Saunders said that Joan was great and actually knew the "Lucky Bitches" lines verbatim.
Joan Collins turned down the role of Patsy's older sister Jackie, who appeared in one episode. I don't know of the actress who did play it, but she also appeared on Dynasty.
Collins said she did not want to play the older sister
strange because first time i watched "new years" i thought it was actually joan collins. i had to do a double take when the credits rolled and she wasnt the lady listed.
i was born in 90's and know lots bout joan. think she's fab know her from dynasty and loads more.

Yeah but Jennifer Saunders never misses a chance to make fun of Joan Collins. She did it all the way up through the final season of Ab Fab.

True enough. But Dawn & French know she can take it.

Damn, I mean French & Saunders know she can take it!

Oooh, I like the idea of their being two Dawns and them forming a duo called "Dawn & French"! hehe.

Totally. If it was found out that Joan wrote some of that sketch - I wouldn't be surprised! Lol.

I should've added that my favorite line is near the end where Dawn mutters "Nobody ever wants hear about Britt Eklund."
