This is a stunning piece of film. It's very hard to gaze into a camera for even a few minutes without feeling self conscious and losing focus. Her gaze is so direct and fearless, yet she is so feminine and soft. Although her face stays in the same position, emotions pass over it and her eyes are so expressive. Amazing.
@jblacktree SOOOO very right... I can't believe the idiocy of someone who thinks they can tinker around with their little computer and "improve" upon something as iconic as a Warhol screen test.
You know, the more I look at Edie's face, the more I realize it was art. She was human, of course, but also her own creation, her version of modern performance art. Unbelievably beautiful! Still dazzling. She was the center of the world for a very short time.
/Es como una pintura, puedes ir por un refresco a tu refrigerador y ella seguira ahi..nada ha cambiado| tan simple como cualquier otra pintura... nada cambia, solo el concepto... pincel = camara.... Andy Warhol ...Maestroo!
A loser that blew her inheritance on that queer warhol because he said he'd make her a star, when her money was gone, she was done for because she was a drug addicted turd who'd never earned a dollar in her life
very nice job, briana. a couple years ago, at the museum of the moving image, i attended a screening of edie's makeup-free screen test. it's really something else! have you seen it?
Just imagine this in color! She had big, deep hazel eyes. Light brown, so beautiful you would probably want to look at them for ever and ever and ever...
@lennyari Yes, I agree, Edie is timeless and stares back at us stuck here in 2010 from way back in the mid-1965. Even today, 45 years later, men and women are fascinated, transfixed, hypnotized by her. It's not only her stunning beauty, it's her charm, her personality. She was, for good or ill, totally unique. She lived her very short life at supersonic speed.
@lennyari That is so well put! Edie was at once very vulnerable and fragile, we all know that, and at the same time strong and up to almost anything. But no matter how long I look at her, she remains fascinating and elusive, a complete mystery in the end. She was good at being herself, Edie, so proud and free.
Hey, did you know theres a retrospective of Nat Finkelsteins work from 20th Jan - 14th Feb at a gallery in London called IDEA GENERATION. He documented Warhols Factory in the 60's. You should check it out! :-)
Hey, did you know theres a retrospective of Nats work from 20th Jan - 14th Feb at a gallery in London called IDEA GENERATION you should check it out! :-)
The scar between her eyes is very noticeable in some pictures. It must have been really nasty to the naked eye. Milk-white skin and too much mascara made the scar less noticeable.
@ZenPapageno apparently she would sometimes fill in the scar with kohl eyeliner to make it look more prominent, which is probably why its appearance varies in different pictures.
Being an artist, she was able to express herself in that fashion. While others probably not realizing how insecure she really was, all they saw was a beauty. Makeup can be a huge security blanket for people, including myself, so I get her. Its clearly evident in Beauty #2, Chuck asks her, "Don't you think you look pretty in them?" (refering to her earrings.) She replys with, "And I said I thought they were just pretty. But God only knows what pretty is, I hate the word."
The sight of her is not arousing but consoling. She's a security blanket, a cup of hot chocolate. I've never been on heroin -- maybe she's that. It borders on religious.
You're a recovering addict, gay or straight, whose job is making Andy Warhol's paintings for minimum wage. How much does it mean to you if, every once in a while, you can take a break, have coffee and a cigarette, and talk with her just for a minute, gazing into those eyes?
The big things in life are made of little things like this.
she was definately EVERYTHING Warhol wished he was. Though i do think he felt betrayed with the whole Dylan ordeal. I think he really did love her above most others
I don't think Edie ever thought of herself as ugly. Being artistic as she was, she probably just wanted to look striking as her beauty, though remarkable, was not distinctive.
No if you listen to her in some interview she says that it took her years to not consider herself ugly. So in the factory days she had really no confidence thats why she put all that makeup on.
No, Edie Didn't think of herself as Beautiful, pretty maybe, i dunno i feel there's a difference, but yes outta her own mouth she didn't feel confident without make-up
Wow. This is mesmerising. Audio and visual happy marriage. Edie's face - but particularly her eyes - communicates so much; vulnerability, wonder, naivety, sadness, defeat, resignation, acceptance, confusion, peacefulness. It's fascinating. Her face really was like a moving canvas. She was art.
aw absolutely love it. i wish i had had this so i could have taken a screenshot of it for my video... its a really nice shot of the "classic" (the cleaner classic) edie make up. it would have been really nice for my video.

Exactly. The makeup is a self-portrait. Also, it makes the eyes more expressive, like the eyes of a mime or a cartoon character.
