I remember this ad campaign. There were several different versions of this great jingle. They were played on TV and radio. I was about 10, and I remember trying to think of my own rhyme scheme for this tune.

Some comments on the comments

This commercial came out around 1963, or even before. The anti-smoking Johnny Smoke/Llke father, like son commercials came out in 1967.

The Flinstones was the first family-oriented prime-time cartoon. I remember watching it when I was 3-4 years old, and it definitely wasn't past my bedtime. The "adult themes" were very subtle. The ads with Fred and Barney hawking Winston cigarettes were quickly removed precisely because kids were watching the show.

Why the hell is any ad that uses illustrations or animation meant for kids? Nonsense! These were aired on shows meant for adults. If they aired them on Howdy Doody or Captain Kangaroo, then there's a problem. And don't hand me the stuff about Flintstone Winston ads. The Flintstones was one of the first animated shows geared for adult viewers, hence the prime-time hours. Did anybody ever see an episode of Huckleberry Hound that dealt with suspicion of infidelity or murder?

This is beautiful music all the way. I remember it in my youth. Those were the good when the Marloro man was king. I long for the days when I used to sit in front of the tv with my candy cigarettes singing to the Kent commercial. This commercial is a great way to teach children geography & sociology. I say this commercial 1 time over 10 years ago on a cdrom with old commercials on it and remember every word. That shows how powerful these ads really are.

As the song originally said, when the first run of this commercial was shown. And the song by itself (with no reference to Kent cigarettes) was a hit, with that line included. "To a night owl, it's a good day's sleep", and so on.

This led to the phrase "Happiness is..." being popular in the '60s. Two examples: Peanuts characters in a quickie book of illustrations: "Happiness Is A Warm Puppy". Beatles song from the White Album: "Happiness Is A Warm Gun".
