Any idea where this footage came from? I'm thinking it might be from the rare VHS video of a show Big Black put out early on. I know it's not from the Last Blast or Pig Pile videos. I read about the first tape that it was shot very shittly with a shitty camera, and Steve was pissed. this seems to fit that. Do you have this tape!? I would give you anything for a full rip of it! It's the rarest Big Black video release, besides video bootlegs.
wow one of the best versions - the grit and the stinging guitars and distorted vocals are just right. sounds like a mixing desk feed or just a damn good mic.
Big Black are one of the greatest groups ever. Rock n Roll has not caught up to them. But it took hip hop 17 years later to match their intensity. Rock needs to catch up or it'll die.
@fantasykiss08 You obviously don't listen to rock. Not that much of it is as intense as Big Black, but no hip hop act will ever be able to match this. Ever.
@fantasykiss08 rock n roll like the cramps? the last poets were before them and what do you consider that? most hip hop are liars to shorten the truth. maybe you should enlighten my ignorance. if you will. this is not rock. there is a lot of independent music that will never die cause it has vigor to do without gain. the radio and all it's followers will be subjugated by a few bands they can still whore out to make a profit but hopefully they all will collapse, as it was never good.
The beat, the melody? Not the vocals really. Steve was unabashedly a huge fan of that kind of music, so it probably wasn't conscientious. It's irrelevant though, because music is just notes and rythm, nobody technically "creates" music anyway, because all of it exists anyway, it just depends on what the composer is intelligent enough to use, and what order they put it in.
....Also, I notice by the negative votes nobody has a good sense of humor? With Big Black, really?

@SteveAFCLondon But Albini is a very well known and successful producer now. I wouldn't think he minds too much.

@SteveAFCLondon no they quit while they were their most popular. but i guess in history they didn't make someone else money so you are true too.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I realized one day that this song is a reworked "State of the Nation" by Fad Gadget. Sad day, because I like the song...
