  • I got this on my Iphone =) love this song!

  • hiroki kikuta ........ the perfection's name !

my god this theme, and now on next gen,we are some bullshit sound...... wtf !

  • i'm missing that time playing this game with my cousin. best moment in my life

  • Im sure i heard this when my aunt played it it was released on the year i was born

  • i remember seeing my destiny playing my game, the RPG reflects who you are in life. We are all role players, we must join the "party." We gain experience from conflicts and resolutions, quest for glories and embelish in harmony with the spheres and the elements. the meaning of life is to give meaning to it. the metaphorical secret of mana.

  • Before all the FPS Realistic Craps came along, all we had were games like this....<3

  • I first played this game in 2007 (almost 15 years after its release). My first thought was: this is the most beautiful game I've ever played.

My second thought was: I'm buying a Super Nintendo.

  • @LynnJynh9315 you are saved ! buy it, and then you know why ps3 and xbox are crap. this new games are pure shit. its just about to shoot people

  • @Tekiin61 Not sure I'd diss the 360 and PS3 because of the over-saturation of shooter games, but I can at least agree with the sentiment.

I recently played Uncharted and practically slit my wrists when they pulled a Halo and threw in zombies for the Third Act. Ruined the whole goddamn game (and there wasn't much good to begin with).

  • i feel like my family isnt the same as it was back in the day when me and my brother played this.. back then everyone was happy and satisfied. but now its dark and lonely, me and my brother never play games with each other anymore.. i miss those days..

  • the days today are not the same as in the 90´s.. i wanna go back.. playing with my brother.. watching the sun from the window..

nowadays everything is fuckd up. only about killing stuff. companies making money n shit..

i feel sad thinking about this.. will we ever get a chance to go back? ofc not.. but we should rly think of something, cause i miss that shit, and i almost cry everytime i think about it.

i dont know what i am asking for. i just wanna go back uknowwhatimsayin? :(

  • OMG thumbs up if this game is AWESOME! Im only 13 and when my aunt showed me this game when i was about 8, i only liked the music and i watched my brother play it. Ahh good memories. Well now ive played the game, almost beat it, and i still listen to this awesome music! WHY CANT THEY MAKE GAMES LIKE THIS?? NOT GOD DAMN HALO SHIT! SCREW THE XBOX GO NINTENDO!

  • @mrablamamanyt Your aunt is an awesome woman for introducing you to this gem of the 16-bit era.

  • niiiiiccceee

  • Ah, this brings back so many memories....

    Nostalgia is addicting...

  • pure magic... lucky of the few that could hear and play the masterpieces of those years, ´cause it would't be matched ever again...

I Bet my childhood to that and i know you´ll do the same. Such as literature and music have a gold age, the same for videogames. I'm glad of being part of that.

SoM, FF, CT, CC, Suikoden, Lufia, tales of..., starocean, lunar, xenogears, wild arms and a lot more rpgs, were like books to our generation. IM SURE YOU AGREE 83-90 born ones!!!

  • @aizenbeoulve Just barely on that list. I was born in 1990.

  • @SMRPGFAN101 me too, the range should be from 83-93

  • gad damn they really used to know how to make games back then.

  • Now we know from where came the inspiration for Pikachu design...

  • This is one of the most immersive, sweeping songs in all of video game history, and one of my favorite songs period. I'll never forget how my brother and my best friend and I had the fan blowing on us as we played through the area in which we heard this music for the first time. The feeling of the wind on us only served to enhance the experience..... Truly magical times.....

  • @zenjiros i play this song on a daily basis on my electric

  • 4 Real - best melody ever

  • THWACK!

  • Edit: harpsichord

  • Yeah harpsicord effects are a staple of most rpg osts. They look like little pianos, except most of the keys are black instead of white.

  • @alcibiades1111 ya, i know what a harpsichord is, just didnt recognize it

  • Yep. This game kicked serious ass. I remember getting shot out of those cannons to travel; awesome.

  • "What's a Rabite doing here?" It ALL starts there!!!!

  • anyone know what that string instrument is meant to be emulating? it's not just guitar is it, cause it sounds so.. "strong"

  • @Apemopo A harpsichord.

  • One of the most beautiful songs in gaming history.

  • they should make secret of mana online with all the music mobs bosses and stuff like that but with a whole new world and stuff it will be the greatest mmorpg of all times

  • I remember the tough times I had going through the Hunted Forest with weak weapons. My Broad Sword and Heavy Spear were my depended weapons through the forest. This was one of the best childhood games I played on the Super Nintendo.

  • It's 2011 and still a hell of a good video game song!

  • Best forest theme ever.

  • This song plus a couple straight drinks, and I'm wandering around in the woods near my house with mystical adventure on my mind...lol

  • @LoSignorino If you were hoping to find MATANGO during your expeditions, I would be kind to inform you that all of the mushrooms are gone. They all looked too tastey to pass up. Saute'd em w/ diced onion and minced garlic. Hold on...what? Add Tomato: sauce, puree, diced, stewed and paste. Damn...these mushrooms taste great! Who's there? Man, I feel weird. I swear that someone said "KNOCK-KNOCK ?". Oh no, not again.......

  • @SabreMatt311 Hahaha...

  • I say that it is probably a safe bet to assume that many folks in their late 20's to mid 30's are nature enthusiasts due to this little game. If I'm out w/ my camera searching for a great wildlife or landscape shot w/out my mp3 player, the music from this game is playing in my head. Plant a tree while listening to "What The Forest Taught Me" or feed black-capped chickadees sunflower seeds from your palm while listening to "The Color Of The Summer Sky". Being in tune is what it's all about.

  • @SabreMatt311 I couldn't agree more. I always have my MP3 player with me when I'm out and listening to music. This soundtrack is always on my mind when going on hikes and jogging trails through provincial parks. I love listening to the mountain theme of Final Fantasy V while scaling the town bluffs, and biking around the golf course listening to Lon Lon Ranch.

  • @SMRPGFAN101 Gotta love the suikoden mounain theme as well if you're hiking somewhere loco like that. This song as well if you're going for a run in a misty thick forest.

  • This theme never gets old!

  • Conan! What is best in life?

"To sit in a comfortable chair, surf the internet, and listen to old video game music on YouTube." - My version of Conan the Barbarian

  • Just finished playing this baby on the iPhone 4, was great to relive emotions and experiences I had while playing this epic game. This musicial score among others in the game last with you forever. It takes true talent to compose a tune like this that draws you into a virtual world that feels all too real, surrealism and escapism at it's finest.

  • SNES = best system of all time, Sqaure old school = best company of all time, this soundtrack = best of all games i ever heard man i miss the 90's gaming era.

  • @Dasmesee You're just stuck in your childhood and refuse to leave if you think SNES is the best system of all time. You are simply ignoring scientific facts that prove it was not that good.

  • @durpadoo What scientific facts...? I mean sure it's not technologically the best system ever, but that's obvious. He just means in terms of his favorite games most of them are on that system. Even I can admit there were a lot of terrible game that were on it but nearly all my favorites are on the SNES hence it's my favorite (or best to me) system.

  • @Sx2Kirby technogoly is science to answer your first question. And saying something is the best system of all times is different than saying its your favorite.

  • @durpadoo Like I said of course it's not the best technologically / scientifically ha ha. And excuse him for not saying best to him, lol.

  • @Sx2Kirby excuse you for being some internet hero and standing up for someone else who prolly doesn't give a fuck if you do.

  • I can still hear this music in my head even after I first played it when I was 5.

  • The Title is, right "Into the Thick of It" aka "The Boy Aims for Wild Fields"

but the ingame use name is "North of Pandora Overworld Theme"

    just letchya know ^^

  • Is there something wrong with me? My F5 key always breaks when I listen this video of this song.

  • @4lbatross

    lol

but could anyone tell me, why this is supposed to be Field Theme -2- ?

this is the first one, right? "Far Thunder" or "Distant Thunder" is the second

  • @9snaker The song you hear at the waterfall in the forest after the prologue is the first one.

  • @4lbatross

yahaha i saw that on the right side :D

but i don't think this is "field music" ya know (... i mean "Together Always"!? aka Always Together aka Overworld Theme for Waterfall)

  • i just love that acoustic guitar you hear in the beginning, and in the background all throughout

  • Not doubt in my mind this was the best tune of the game, or maybe of all games.

  • If only the real world were as tranquil as this.

  • i keep hearing my sword charging up and waiting to smack a rabbite

  • Tks DUDE !! Really !! I love this game and i love the musics too !!!

One of the BEST RPG'S that i played in my entire life !!! Sure that Super Nes has the BEst Rpg's of all consoles !! An above all its a Original Classic !!! Tks ^^

  • Thanks for uploading this. Music like this makes me question what videogames are.

  • this is the kind of game where you step out of your living room, and through the television into a mystical land of wonder, awe striking colors, magical creatures and beings, and existential enchantment.

where an untold story has yet to unfold. I don't think that even the blood and gore games of today will ever be able to replace this timeless masterpiece.

don't get me wrong, I like resident evil, silent hill, and bloody action.

but that will NEVER replace a unforgettable game like this. NEVER

  • old times T_T

  • Makes me wonder what exactly a golden age of video games would entail. I would include SNES. Would anyone include playstation?

  • @ltrizzle84 I would include right up until last gen. With PS1 era we had Suikoden, Grandia, Ocarina of Time, FFVII. With PS2 era we had FFXII, Suikoden 3, Rogue Galaxy, Wind Waker, Persona 3-4, Shadow Hearts. Then a lot of amazing titles such as Okami, God Hand, Katamari and so on. The HD era is the day that creativity died.

  • Man, Secret of mana.. it had the best music of ANY Supernintendo game. ever. I played this game when i was like. tiny. And. like. i just will never forget any music from it.

  • I keep hearing the popping sound of defeated Mushbooms and Rabites whenever I listen to this song, haha.

  • @EASasayaki LOL.. same here! ^__^

  • I remember I first played this game when I was a kid, but then didn't play it for years until I was in high school. I never forgot this tune.

  • Pre-High School summer memories.

  • when i first heard this music for the first time in the game,i was shocked!,i was immediately drawn into this epic masterpiece!,this music completely brought out the life of the trees, lakes, flowers and the green fields,it was fun cutting through the grass, while charging your sword for a critical hits on the rabites!,while those troublesome flowers would put me to sleep!,the secret of mana will stand the test of time!!.

  • "Hey look, a flow- OH GOD IT HAS TEETH!"

  • where you here that music i forget that

  • Hey, a mushroom with hearts! What a queer!

    *Jerk is unconsciuos*

    *Mushroom rapes him to death*

  • OK, let's smash some rabbits and carnivorous flowers!

  • I downloaded this game on the Virtual Console not too long ago, and when I heard this I couldn't believe I was listening to 16-bit music. If you ask me this could have passed off as PS1 music.

  • This always reminded my of Thick as a Brick from Jethro Tull, and now it's funny to find out the song's real title.

  • FORGET CoD REAL MEN PLAY SoM!!!!

  • The Boy aims for wild fields.

  • I remember this game.....I think I was 9 when I played this...

  • 0:21 to 0:34 kills me.

  • One Word: Epic

  • @exxistenz Two words,Epic/Beautiful

  • whenever i was out in the woods in the springtime near my old house as a kid, there was so much to explore... the woods was a beautiful green, and i could dig holes, you could explore. i once found a barn root cellar, when i was a small boy. and we built an underground hideout. but when the adults found out about it, they collapsed it. yes. summer days as a kid. playing outside. camping by the creek. playing ouside in the woods...I think that fits this song very well...

    aaahhhhhhh........youth.

  • this song made me feel like i was truly on an adventure and i didnt mind wandering around the land aimlessly fighting monsters just to hear this music.

  • Beautiful songs like these are what defined the 90's jrpg era. You never heard beautiful music like this in modern rpgs. It's nice, but it doesn't have what the classic rpgs like this and countless others had.

  • "Huh? Whats a Rabite doing here?"

    -Anonymous

  • I don't remember much about this game in general, even though I probably finished it two or three times when I was much younger.

Music-wise, this theme is the only thing I remember about the game.

  • @genjgenj well, if you don't remember, it would definately be worth your while to play it again and relive the magical mystification that was this game.

  • This is by far my favorite track in the whole game, which is actually saying a lot.

  • Secret of mana...wen I play this game...i have a feeling...I love this game xDDDD

  • ah memories <3

  • Secret of Mana music sounds so similar to Jo Hisashi's music from Nausicaa, Laputa, Totoro!

  • I remember this!!! Oh how many warm fond memories come back from hearing this, I used to play this game with my brother hours on end.

This song sometimes comes back to me when I'm out walking in open sunny areas. ^__^

  • I'm in love with that song :D

  • I really have to say that the music to this game is probably one of the top reasons why I keep coming back to it occasionally. It invokes a lot of emotional feeling that makes it just a timeless classic.

  • This song = me dancing and bobbing my head stupidly.

  • Ah, how I miss the good 'ol Wabbit hunting days.

  • This music makes you think of going in an adventure and explore new places.

  • @sovantamipu

lol, that was probably me. I had that bit as my message tone for a while.

  • Peyser if you found Secret of mana 2 OST u're going to be my idol nº1 ^^

I love SM series, they remind me of my childhood, I dropped a tear listening to these great songs...

Feel free to eliminate my comment if u want

  • OK this is driving me nuts. Wasn't there a version of this with drums that kick in at some point?

  • I hated the wearwolfs that kicked ur ass when trying to save the girl lol

  • One of the best songs on the game. Always gives me chills listening to it. also very good to listen to while high!

  • Mannn haven't heard this in about 6-7 years! Heard those opening notes and it took me BACK!

  • This song is the theme I think of whenever Secret of Mana comes into my mind. ....I need to play through this game again..

  • I've got a sword, now where's that rabbite...?

  • Godlike RPG with some of the best game music (or just music for that matter) ever. In fact its been too long, I am gonna break out my snes and give this game another play through. This track is one of the best.

  • Secret of Mana: second greatest videogame soundtrack of all time, after Super Castlevnia IV. :)

  • oh god... this is the one Ive ben searchingfor! yes!

  • i always liked this theme.

It seems so atmospheric for some reason.

    It fits the forest perfectly

  • I'm currently in the Haunted Forest, and getting my butt kicked by werewolves. Werewolves are so ANNOYING! >:(

  • Of course, now I'm in the Castle, insert girl and sprite. Of course, if I die, I'll have to restart at the Forest.

  • @GenoCheese You forgot the prisons. You can save there.

  • Got this as my alarm clock. There's nothing better to wake up to in the morning!

...maybe some FFVII tunes though. I could kiss my phone for playing midi-files!

  • Is it me, or does this song remind anyone else of "The Battle of Evermore" by Led Zeppelin?

  • @nastynate3163 i can see what you mean, but not really..

  • God, I was looking for this one.

  • ahhh good sounds :)

  • I was just thinking of this.. had to find it..

  • So many happy memories in my life surround this theme... Strange, huh?

  • @digitalshower: not at all :)

  • Lots of interesting harmonies in this track.

  • greatest artwork in videogame history i just love the poster/map that came with the game!!

  • this game is so great its on virtual console for the wii also!!!

  • Wackin' Rabites... ALL DAY!!! Love the game, love the music. Love old school Square (note, I did not say SE)!!

  • Gorgeous, gorgeous folky, ethereal and dreamy......Hiroki Kikuta`s score is astonishing, and would stand alone outside the realm of games. This is truly regal game music. Awesome!

  • i like this theme..so peaceful and relaxing..such good memories ^_^

    Thanks for the upload!

    5/5

  • Yeah, it's so good, there's no wonder why they made a remixed version in the same game XD

  • Secret of Mana has lots of good music, but this is probably my favourite. It's certainly the one that left the strongest impression.

It always evokes mixed feelings of sadness and optimism. You first hear it immediately after being banished from Potos, and that sort of pipe/flute melody seems a little melancholy at first. But it also has a note of optimistic freedom, especially as it progresses.

That's probably too much analysis for game music!

  • Not at all, I'm glad if someone has that much to say and can express how the songs make them feel. After all, we're talking about quite an epic soundtrack. :)

  • @PeyserConley this is not even an epic soundtrack, its an epic game and btw. my new ringtone :D thx 4 upload

  • you're not alone sir.....I agree with you

    ^.^

  • I'm glad it's not just me! :D

  • @SamildanachEmrys I agree with you. It's okay to put this much thought into any song. I see people finding meanings in hip hop. I never thought that was possible, especially in today's music industry! I consider this the "main theme" of Secret of Mana due to the fact that you hear it so much during the journey.

  • @SMRPGFAN101

I agree, I consider it the main Secret of Mana theme.

  • @SamildanachEmrys You explained Secret of Mana perfectly!

Hearing the music tells my mind that I should replay it.

    But my mind also thinks....

I never was able to complete it...

    So, I'm stuck for thoughts

  • @JasonBurrows1989 It took me years to finish this game. Actually, it took me about two years to beat the Fire Gigas. I was young, I didn't know RPGs. I remember literally running around the house in excitement when I finally killed that thing. I was about 17...

Anyway, I agree that it's worth revisiting. I started replaying it last year, and it hasn't really aged.

  • @SamildanachEmrys probably the best expression of music that i've ever read - i really can share your opinion :)

  • @Ingengerion Thank you :)

  • @SamildanachEmrys very well put man, when i listen to this song i really just want to leave everything and go....i look at the picture on the video and i really wish to be there with those characters, just looking upon the mana tree...for me its not sadness is dispair to the degree of just not knowing enough i feel like there is so much more to learn in life XD if that makes any sense, lol and all just listening to this song

  • @rebelrussian Thanks for sharing your feelings about it. For me it doesn't go as far as despair. To me it feels more like things can get bad, and everything can seem to turn against me, but the world is out there and I already have everything I need to get as far as I can with my own ability and determination.

That's the feeling I had after being booted from Potos village, and it's a feeling this music still evokes.

  • @SamildanachEmrys @PeyserConley

all i have or wanna say at that point is

    i think so too!

maybe thats because i wanna make my own game,

so i have to think of the feelings in a song,

even because i want to have my "own" game music - from someone, who is so pleasant to make it for me ^^

  • ...I need to buy this game on the VC. I have so many scattered memories of it, I'd love to replay it.

  • Amazing Music (especially for the SNES!) , Great work putting up all these soundtracks btw :)

  • I'll second that!

  • Just close your eyes, turn up the sound, and let this beautiful melody fill your mind...so serene and peaceful.

  • @ArmaDega in mi mind i have .... a guy killing mushrooms-Strange Carnivores

Yellow Rabits and... Flowers? Whit a Old Sword

  • @Melamamoduro Haha :) Rabite got WHACKED

  • I can sum up this game's greatness in three words. Blat gets whacked.

  • It's just the start of an epic journey!

  • Hasn't gotten old for me, either. This is good music.
