You can keep pumping money into the educational system but this isn't going to solve the problem of the money it self. money is the reason that we are having to reform the education system in the first place.
Yeah go get educated, then when you graduate college and can't pay your student loans back, or get the kind of job you thought you were going to get, then well we will give the bail out money to big business. Now THAT's innovation. Kids do yourself a favor, get a GED, and then go get a job for the state. You will end up making more money that way, and have health insurance for your family.
You're an idiot! Probably one of those people that said take prayer out of school or something right? Even if the guy is a puppet (I'm not saying he is) you should try to look more closely at the positive of what he's doing since we all know that the real bad guys behind the crap that's going on wouldn't do any of it.
President Obama and Secretary Duncan continue to make real the quest for excellent science education. The jobs of the future will require the use of the best cultural tool of this and the next generation, science. Give your children a chance, given them the best in science education.
Exactly. But its a matter of all of us doing it. No president will be able to do the things we all need to take care of. He or she can only be a voice and inspiration, but we all need to do the work.
We need to focus on strengthening education. I hope Obama tries to tackle this on a bigger level during his term. Of course, the big question is: How can make education better?
That question can be answered simply.Remove political agendas from the classroom. Remove non-educational curriculums from the schools. Increase teachers pay to increase their teaching incentives. A teacher gets paid more, they will try harder to reach kids that aren't interested. Quit building million dollar stadiums and put that money into lab and computer equipment. Every president in the past 12 years has touted educational reform, but all they do is throw money at it. Hasn't helped yet
Society is glorifying non-productive time sinks, like television, video games, movies, cell phone apps, etc. The continuing liberal agenda to destroy ethics and morals is taking a larger toll on the social infrastructure. Education goals and criteria have been progressively degraded. All these things, and more, effect not only the children subjected to this fail system, but the effects get handed off to their children, as well. Those decisions have had far reaching effects; catch a clue.
Money is an outdated technology, we need our education system teaching about this culprint draining our economy and productivity. Protectionalism also make us handicaped because of money. We need to be innovative against money governing which stalls our democracy, creativity, technology and productivity. No one in the country should be left homeless and hungry because of money. Money is used as a punishment by the outdated system to block all of us from our consiciousness and responsibility.
While I also have no love for big government I don't see why trying to make science and math or education better in anyway in this country a bad thing. All you have to do is walk around any mall in the US and watch the kids like if your on a nature documentary watching animals and you can see just how dumb most kids these days are. I mean most of them are just complete and utter morons. We need to stop making being smart a negative thing on movies and shows.
Also we need to stop glorifying sports athletes I mean there's nothing wrong with liking a sport or sports but these people are just playing a game. It does not provide anything to society except entertainment yet they get paid more than teachers, doctors scientists, firemen shit face it they get paid more than pretty much anyone else and that is pathetic. The way I see it smart people on this planet are a minority and an endangered species. Looks like the morons will soon reign supreme.
I would have to agree. Unfortunately more funding isn't going to increase the child's willingness to be taught. For some unknown reason the children today think it's "cool" to be an idiot and have an IQ equal to shoe strings. Another problem is teacher's salaries are being cut,but boosting funds for sports programs. A lot of teachers are feeling unappreciated and it's showing in their teaching efforts. Either way you can force a kid to go to school, but you can't force them to listen.
The reason kids today think its cool to be stupid is cause of all the characters on tv from cartoons up to live action shows the smart characters are always the freaks or annoying ones that the moron jocks make fun of. As far as teachers pay goes they have always been underpaid its probably just how the big companies want it so the majority of people stay nice and dumb just how they need us to be.
Seems like cartoon characters, Super Why, Sid The Science Kid--and others are a lot smarter than the Bugs and Daffy that I grew up with. I agree with you, but not on the point of cartoons.
Ask most kids if they know who those characters are and they will more than likely have no idea. Ask them if they know who spongebob is and most will know in a second.
An excellent suggestion. Being involved is the best solution. Also, this president, and every other president--needs to be watched closely and held accountable. He's making choices about how our money is spent. Thanks for the positive suggestion.
the main intent was not to bring the best robot, but to bring one that was visually appealing. Also they didn't want to have two nasa exhibits on stage. they didnt want to send that message. they wanted to show that glimmers of the initiative were present in the private sector and that with government funding could become great
you will not get all kids to achieve in schools until teachers regain a higher status in communities. parents have lost faith in teachers and kids sense this (if not hear it outright); kids don't want to learn from those whom they don't respect.
There is talk of merit pay for teachers: give rewards to teachers whose students perform best. Unfortunately, you could have the same teacher and same lesson in two differing areas of socioeconomic status and you will notice a great difference in work.
You have hit upon an excellent important point: the classroom is where the social problems of our republic are faced by teachers--this is why I got out of that line of work; I don't have the nearly boundless patience and love for at-risk kids that is required to teach them. Our kids throw chairs and smoke pot. They're pregnant and take smoke breaks in their cars. That's not conducive to education. I praise the teachers who have a heart for these kids. Pay 'em more!

Chicago schools really suck lets make the entire nation even shittier. This sounds so good to people that do not know what a slick salesman you do not even feel the big cock sticking in your ass. What happened to reading and thinking. Notice Obama was not a math and science guy he seems to be set up to make a couple of hundred million after office.
I am not an american, but I just wanted to say that you guys are lucky to get a great president who have great vision for future for america
Hope you guys don't fall for Palin's/GOP agenda and bring disgrace to your country(I bet McCain/Palin would never do anything like this, nor provide proper funding to revamp education policy)
Most PBS stations, especially those in major cities, have had active Educational Services departments since their inception, and despite governments' (both Federal and state) dwindling support... which was meager to start with.
Support your local PBS station - pledge season is in the next few weeks... and your donation is deductible... to a degree (consult your tax preparation professional.)
can you guys not day anything good about this guy i can understand the fear of big government but you have to give credit where credit is due the education in this country is lacking and we need to someone to do something about it
The federal government currently accounts for about 8-9% of education funding. pretty miniscule. whatever this new program is about, it's not going to take over anything, don't worry. the constitution leaves the responsibility of public education up to the states! The Federal Government just "helps out" a little bit.
Funding=Leverage in Obama's mind. He said this in so many words in an interview about the banking bailout. Once they paid the $ back he said their was "no leverage" Pretty scary!! Now he has a financial task force to put the fingers back in the banking industry.
Obama, keep your hands off the schools, they don't need you!!!
So far no credit is due here. Obama hasn't done anything to get credit for. Obama wants government to step into personal and private enterprises. Education is personal even in public schools. Each child needs something different, each school needs different funding. Cookie cutter agendas for each school isn't going to work. Obama hasn't done anything other than put his mouth, policies and government in places it shouldn't be.
Well, everywhere to be honest. Obama's policies target every aspect of American life. The size of government has increased by 27% since Obama has taken office. He institutes a committee for every idea he has, He then appoints a CZAR to head the department or committee. The committee then figures they need another committee to check their results and bring it to Congress. Everything from "civil rights" for homosexuals, health care, personal banking, auto industry, private businesses. Name it
a czar doesn't head a department or committee they are focused on certain issues and since the cabinet is usually focused on their own department rather than the president the president institutes these "czars" to report the happenings pertaining to a certain issue and oversee executive departments it is true they "increase" the size of government but "czars" are not new they were first used by president Nixon and even Reagan it is just on way the president leads
I think the word czar has been made some kind of pejorative--but we have always had so-called czars. Go ahead a criticize, but perhaps you could assert ANY form of positive suggestion. If you stand there with your arms folded, you are part of the problem and need o step aside.
