Burning the Witches was the first album I ever bought. I used to rock the shit out of that disc from the age of 12 to about 17. Now that I've grown up and become a respectable professional jazz musician, I still like to crank out a sneaky bit of classic metal.
I was a Doro fan when no one knew who the hell she was. She was the first woman I'd ever heard that could actually do metal, and truthfully as good if not better than most men... Geoff Tate still has a better voice. But I love this woman. The perfect role model of a little dyke with aspirations to be a metal singer.

I recall there used to be a "feud" between Doro Pesch and Lita Ford back in the 80's. That "feud" was a joke because Doro TOTALLY rocked Lita Ford as the only undisputed Queen of Metal. And that status haven't been challenged since then.
@unorthodoxtrotsky you can't compare Lita and Doro. Lita is a great guitarist and vocalist. Doro has great pipes but does not play guitar. They are both great at what they do.
Comparison has been already done. Lita may know how to play guitar but she's not a good singer. Her live performance shows this and she doesn't have powerful voice like Doro. Doro is the first genuine female METAL vocalist. She's beautiful but she never tried to be beautiful like Lita. Lital also lacks the kind of witching charisma that Doro has. Doro is the Queen of Metal while Lita is just "hot chick" with a guitar.

She also was part of a group that had a major influence on the music seen, "The Runaways". I am a fan of both Doro and LIta. In fact I have seen Doro perform live and she is great, but don't slam Lita like the only reason she has had success is by her looks. She can play! This is all a matter of opinion too.

It's really not Lita's fault that her management tried to cash in on her looks. That happened a lot during that time. The same thing happened to Hearts Ann and Nancy Wilson.

But I totally disagreed with you when you equalized Lita with Doro because as critical I can be with Doro, one thing for sure is that Doro was very unique compare to Lita. Her recognition is that she was one of VERY FEW(if not, the only) female guitarist. Her recognition seem to be only as "female" artist when there really weren't many female artists. I do think she loves music or other wise, she won't return to this industry.
I didn't simply mentioned Tarja and Angela Gossow because I thought they were the only female vocalists at the present moment. I picked them because I thought they stood out as one of rare and unique whether it's Tarja's operatic vocal in metal music or Angela Gossow's death metal grawl. Sharon Den Adel can be one of them but personally I'm not that much of fan of Within Temptation or others like Epica who I feel are just repeating the ground of Tarja.
I like the idea of 80's music coming back but do you think anyone will still capture the 80's spirit? Do you think it's gone and I don't think I will ever feel the same kind of feelings and explosion that I have once felt during the 80's from upcoming "80's rock/metal". I just settle for something less by relatively good traditional metal music. And I think those "handful of stand out bands" who are still around are the testament to true legends. 'm/
Respond to this video... Not many bands survived the grunge invasion. Now 80's music/metal is making a come back because people are hungry for the passion of the music. After the 90's music got pretty stagnant. There has only been a handful of stand out bands in the past decade.
I think there are more great bands today with a frontwoman than they did during the 80's and it's fair to say without female artists from the time where music industry was more male-dominated, there won't be greater number of female artists today. I don't know how much female vocalists like Nightwish's ex-vocalist Tarja or current Arch Enemy's vocalist Angela Gossow would relate themselves with Doro(actually Angela Gossow does) but I don't think they will relate with Lita.
@unorthodoxtrotsky Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation would be another female vocalist to add to the list. Again, it's a matter of opinion. To use the word great may not be correct. Some vocals just work, ie. James Hetfield. Not a great singer, but works great with Metallica. The Go-Go's are not metal, but are another band from the 80's. I think they would and do relate to Lita. Lita is the real deal as is Doro.
I will give Lita one credit though. She did outlive some of other female competitions such as Femme Fatale and Phantom Blues during the 80's. But the 80's were way more male-dominated and for her to win "Female Artist of the Year" in Metal Edge magazine for almost nearly decade doesn't tell anyone anything since she was almost ONLY female artist during the 80's. Doro here is very underrated. But I think neither of them are as timeless as other 80's legends.
I think Lita is getting what she deserve whether it's praise, criticism or underestimation because Lita is not underrated. However Doro is. This is my point that Doro didn't get the kind of recognition she deserve while Lita was more popular in mainstream rock world. It's good that you don't care how female musicians looks like but be honest. Do you think most of Lita's fans can say that? I think that's more possible among Doro's fans.

I think this song is meant to be an ironic tribute to historic Christian Folk Lore (but not a literal call to arms), because the cover of "Triumph and Agony" had a giant "evil" Warlock on it trying to capture her. Most Christian groups would consider Warlock to be Satanic just for their image. Also from what ive seen Doro is very creative so would not be against modern witches, especially pagans.

Nothing personal but I didn't liked our discussion because as much as I was defending Doro more favorably, I am not (as you noted) "President of Doro's fan club" who is "obsessed" with her. Like I said, I think "Triumph And Agony" was the only album I liked from Warlock and Warlock doesn't even match with other legendary metal bands from 80's. So as much as I liked her, there wasn't really that much of passion behind my argument the way it could have been if it was Iron Maiden.

Both Lita and Doro are relic of 80's who are irrelevant today unless one is going back to their music out of nostalgia. But I totally disagreed with you when you equalized Lita with Doro because as critical I can be with Doro, one thing for sure is that Doro was very unique compare to Lita. I didn't liked her music because it was "darker".(I like Van Halen and they are not dark at all) My emphasis was that she have captured the kind of aesthetics that other female artists lacked.

I rhink Doro have very powerful voice but when I characterized the aesthetic as "dark", I basically mean her overall charisma. There were some good female charismas such as "rebel" character of Joan Jetts for example. But when it comes to seductive, mysterious and unholy quality, I cannot think of any female artists who have captured that like Doro. Male artists have done this but Doro is very unique in this one. That's what I meant. :)

I think they are both irrelevant today because they didn't surive grunge domination. There were/are great bands from 80's but only few have outlived grunge and stood in the test of time.(Iron Maiden being one of them) But unfortunately I don't think neither Lita or Doro are in such legendary status.

Her recognition is that she was one of VERY FEW(if not, the only) female guitarist. Her recognition seem to be only as "female" artist when there really weren't many female artists. I do think she loves music or other wise, she won't return to this industry.

I didn't simply mentioned Tarja and Angela Gossow because I thought they were the only female vocalists at the present moment. I picked them because I thought they stood out as one of rare and unique whether it's Tarja's operatic vocal in metal music or Angela Gossow's death metal grawl. Sharon Den Adel can be one of them but personally I'm not that much of fan of Within Temptation or others like Epica who I feel are just repeating the ground of Tarja.

I like the idea of 80's music coming back but do you think anyone will still capture the 80's spirit? Do you think it's gone and I don't think I will ever feel the same kind of feelings and explosion that I have once felt during the 80's from upcoming "80's rock/metal". Respond to this video... Not many bands survived the grunge invasion. Now 80's music/metal is making a come back because people are hungry for the passion of the music. After the 90's music got pretty stagnant. There has only been a handful of stand out bands in the past decade.

I think there are more great bands today with a frontwoman than they did during the 80's and it's fair to say without female artists from the time where music industry was more male-dominated, there won't be greater number of female artists today. I don't know how much female vocalists like Nightwish's ex-vocalist Tarja or current Arch Enemy's vocalist Angela Gossow would relate themselves with Doro(actually Angela Gossow does) but I don't think they will relate with Lita.

Some vocals just work, ie. James Hetfield. Not a great singer, but works great with Metallica. The Go-Go's are not metal, but are another band from the 80's. I think they would and do relate to Lita. Lita is the real deal as is Doro.

I will give Lita one credit though. She did outlive some of other female competitions such as Femme Fatale and Phantom Blues during the 80's. But the 80's were way more male-dominated and for her to win "Female Artist of the Year" in Metal Edge magazine for almost nearly decade doesn't tell anyone anything since she was almost ONLY female artist during the 80's. Doro here is very underrated. But I think neither of them are as timeless as other 80's legends.

I think Lita is getting what she deserve whether it's praise, criticism or underestimation because Lita is not underrated. However Doro is. This is my point that Doro didn't get the kind of recognition she deserve while Lita was more popular in mainstream rock world. It's good that you don't care how female musicians looks like but be honest. Do you think most of Lita's fans can say that? I think that's more possible among Doro's fans.

I agree it was more of Lita's manager (and her record companies) but Doro's manager and record companies tried the same thing but Doro resisted. Being a guy, I can tell you, I really wonder how many of Lita's (male) "fans" were really into her music rather than caring more about getting an opportunity to look at her body. Despite her status, she really wasn't taken seriously. It also happened to Ann and Nancy Wilson but they just have great resume that can't disqualify such motive.

Two things that I will admit is that one, "Triumph And Agony" is the only good album by Doro/Warlock. So I will admit that as someone who I praise, her accomplishment isn't that great. And I also think Runaway was great band. That band makes great resume for Lita. I'm also not going to deny Lita's ability to play guitar but that doesn't dismiss the fact that her vocal ability is mediocre(if not below) while she DID rely alot with her looks while Doro was genuinely about music.

I think this song is meant to be an ironic tribute to historic Christian Folk Lore (but not a literal call to arms), because the cover of "Triumph and Agony" had a giant "evil" Warlock on it trying to capture her. Most Christian groups would consider Warlock to be Satanic just for their image. Also from what ive seen Doro is very creative so would not be against modern witches, especially pagans.
