I find it amazing that throughout your documentary, no one ever address the tremendous amount of pain many gay men are in, and how much of the gay "scene" and "culture" is about avoidance of that very pain. Drugs, alcohol, endless partying, random bb sex are all about avoidance of that pain. When are we going to wake up and start calling things what they are? I agree with you about the need to STOP being politically correct, and get with reality. Unfortunately I dont think it will end.
it's sad that HIV is such an epidemic these days, and I hope everyone is encouraged to practice safe sex after watching this documentary. By the way, what is that song at the end of the video? such a tune.
the story about the Jehovah's witness guy is kind of sad in a way. I used to be a Jehovah's witness from age 6 till 14. When I realized I was gay and I couldn't lie to god then I decided to stop going. At the momemt I told my mom I just needed a break. Year later when I came out to my mom she tried to get me to go back. Now my mom rather tries to understand me and my sister who is a Jehovah's witness knows about me and she still loves me. I must just be a very fortunate guy for the family I have
So far no one was able to give a straight or coherent answer as to why they seek out to acquire HIV. I'm more confused and saddened now than when I started watching... I also feel quite angry because Ricky Dyer didn't ask for HIV and although it can be somewhat managed it will eventually kill him before his time and these other guys are actively pursuing this illness that will cut their life expectancy dramatically...
I'm an Australian... and I've met a few Ex Jehovah's Witness's over the years... So many after they are excommunicated go and do stupid shit. I'm not saying being gay is stupid shit. I'm saying there seems to be a fearlessness to fool around and for-fill dark fantasies once they are unleashed on the real world. Look at the way this dude deals with bloody trees, what a nutter.
@YourEternalFriend Well, that isnt well known at all.I think it would definitely be a good issue for more publicity. Im sure that mine would be the assumption that alot of ppl make, but now I know it can be a very dangerous assumption to make.
That's why I quit the LGBT culture. Honestly, it's a culture of death and self-destruction. At least to me, that's what it is all about. I've choosen celibacy and I'm proud of it!
Thank You for posting this intimate perspective of a sub-culture within a sub-culture. We can only hope that if these guys do exist, somehow they see the long-term consequences to impulses of instant gratification. Scary to think the need to belong or be accepted can be so literally pathological.
Informative, but my personal experience is that there many real bug chasers, two of which I know personally, that for years they've been trying to seroconvert and they are never able too.
Very informative series. It would seem that only after someone acquires HIV that they admit to have been a bug chaser. "You see, it was what I wanted all along."

@hydser The whole point was that bugchasing is (evidently) mostly fantasy and not something people actually actively seek.

Well done program. HIV is not for the faint hearted and not something I would wish on anyone. Wake up people.

I hate having HIV: my life was ruined in 1994. I wish I knew I was mentally ill, back then.

@the7thwreck this isn't quite right. If an HIV+ has sex with another HIV+, the virus can be mutated and make the drugs useless.

Its not really bug chasing if you just don't care though. A bug chaser has to be actively seeking to get infected.
