I am jealous of people who own nice 4runner's.. I love my car, an 03 Accord, but im planning on trading in for a newer 4 runner in a couple months. Im so excited to own a 4 runner, what an amazing vehicle! And whatever peice of crap GM, Dodge or Ford offers in this class im sure doesn't come close to the 4 runner. Best of all is the superb reliability of Toyota's or Honda's in general, and the awesome resale value.
I actually saw a front wheel drive VW Passat S/W 2.0TDI 2009 model I think get out of snow almost that high. Not as good as your truck (had to rock it back and forth a couple of times) but definatly surprised me. I never would have thought a 2 wheel drive car could get through a snow bank like that! BTW; I have done the same as you with my old '97 RAV4!
Should have kept wheel turned to the left when you burst through the snow. Turning back into it was making the vehicle lose traction and burying the right front tire, thus making 4Runner plow the snow.
@117nathanmyers I have a 98 and it's bulletproof. Better engine, styling, clearance...and factory lockers....it was the last year they still made em in Japan....
@chiefy51 Thats is wrong. The older 4 runner are nothing compared to the ones we have today. They are more powerful their bodies don't easily rust like yours and just cause it made over here doesn't mean it not 100% Japanese the parts are still from japan.

That is not snow :) That is a light dusting where I am from. I have one of these and it could have been buried up to the doors in snow. And still crawled right out. Put the 4 runner in 4 high, first gear and it would have pilled right out. These things are amazing in snow. This ski season I have passed many jeeps stuck on the same road I was on in my 2011 4 runner. With the right tires and a driver that is not freaking out. The 4 Runner can go nearly anyplace you dare take it.

@rakapur The 4runner in the vid is a 4th gen runner with optional V8. The 5th generation Runner did not release until June 2010, so there is no way you were gonna by a 5th gen in 2008. I can agree that the 4th gen (one in video) does look like soccer moms suv stock. But if you start some mods it looks ok. I personally own a 96 Limited and prob would not buy the 5th gen because its too electronic and expensive.

(for you dodo's, this means its not a constant 50/50 power split front to rear) But when necessary, there is a button on the dash to lock up the transfer case. And with the traction control, it will INDEED spin all 4 tires at the same time. Learn what you are talking about before you post.
I got my 4 runner out of a ditch filled with snow , it was beautiful wished i had my camera at the time but i was focused on getting home thru that storm that night. You never think you will need a low 4 gear untill you need a low 4 gear.

@dawsomd1, you have no idea what you're talking about. The 4th gen 4Runner has a lockable center diff that will split power equally front and rear. The ATRAC system will send power from side to side. It doesn't get any more true than that when it comes to being a true 4x4 vehicle.
Nice video. I have the same year 4Runner and I've been in far deeper snow than that without getting stuck. You gotta love the amazing 4wd capabilities of the 4Runner. They are nearly unstoppable in the snow!
@gp40mc CRV and X5 suck; they aren't SUVs, they're SUV-shaped cars. They have half the ground clearance of a 4Runner and they aren't even 4wd. They're 4wd on demand, which means the rear wheels only kick in once you get stuck. Pretty useless for everything except starting from a stop. They're basically just raised Civics and 5-series.
The 4Runner is a true SUV, built on a truck platform, 10 inches of ground clearance, the ability to put 4WD on permanently, and a low range gear box.
@Brendonbosy I am aware. I wouldn't say the crv and x5 suck, they're not really in the same class as a 4runner for the reasons you stated. But they have advantages like better handling.
