@rattinator55: Whatever. I bet The Dark Knight will fade into obscurity as soon as they make another Batman movie starring someone else as Batman and the Joker. TDK is the most overrated movie of the late 2000's. Not even Harry Potter or LOTRs were as hyped as TDK.
@Fantezism I have to agree on this. Personally my favourite Batman will always be Keaton. After watching Beetlejuice, The Dream Team, Clean & Sober, and Pacific Heights, made me realise how deep and talented this man is. Bale's OTT angry-lion voice in TDK was totally unnecessary & offputting for me. I enjoyed Begins far more than TDK. I felt a bit drained after watching TDK. However the ultimate for me, will always be Batman 1989. Glad I was there to see it back in '89. RIP Michael Gough.
@rattinator55: I never said Keaton was the PERFECT Batman or that Nicholson was the perfect Joker. However, they managed to strike the balance between fiction and reality, didn't make any useless improvisations and stayed true to the characters. Lastly, their performances aren't as overrated as Bale's and Ledger's - I dislike hyped movies more than I dislike bad movies.
The only problem I have with the 89' Batman is that bats kills. Joker killing Bruce's parents adds a lot of drama and tension. In fact I don't mind Batman killing all that much. It's Burton's take on the winged avenger. Nolan did a great job as well but Tim did great . Keaton was a fantastic Batman and Bruce Wayne. The thing is that Bruce was so emotionless in that movie that it was shocking to think this guy was a tortured soul and it worked great! Nickelson is insane and perfect as Joker.
@Fantezism Could you please attempt at saving the remaining brain cells you have left instead of sniffing that magic marker dude?.... Seriously.. I mean come on dude, you don't know a damn thing about me nor what I know, nor do you have the right to label me as anything just because you deserve to be labelled. I mean dude, since the fuck when does making me have an opinion of pure accuracy make me a "fanboy" if anything, you fit that description. If I liked Jack more, I'd be his fan
@Carjos07 The mere fact that you're so far up Ledger's ass makes you a fanboy. I don't think Cesar's and Nicholson's performances were perfect but they were truer to the character. Ledger's Joker is just Ledger wearing make-up and sticking his tongue out on cue. No humor, no witty comebacks, no memorable acting, no nothing. Just your average Hollywood playboy wearing make-up. And the those scars aren't anything new, that idea was used before in other movies (like the Profiler series)
Look at Batman's face while je was holding Jack. He thinks about it and it looks like he decides not to save him. Then Jack falls into the acid pit. I really enjoyed the two Batman movies with Michael Keaton, since that Batman was way darker than Bale's Batman. Keaton's Batman was a killer, who was shooting at the Joker in the end of the first movie and in the second movie he killed a clown by attaching a bomb to his belly and kicking himdown the stairs.
@biostyle I thought I was the only person who thought Batman let Jack go on purpose. But I like how they left it up to the viewer to decide if he slipped or Batman let him go.
@Fantezism It's practical and makes sense, which is the point of Nolan's films. Burton's films were much more artistic and bizarre. It depends on what appeals to you more. I personally enjoy Nolan's films much more, but that's just me.
@rpsmith014: More practical ? It's a *censored* fictitious character !!!! Who cares about practicalities when the character is fictitious ? I want to be entertained ! I couldn't care less about how practical (or not) the characters are. Burton's films struck the perfect balance between reality and fiction: Nolan's films are just emo-freakish without any regard for the things that made Batman great. Long-term Batman fans prefer Burton's movies. I guess that says a lot.
@Fantezism 1. Please explain "emo-freakish" for me.
2. I am a long term Batman fan, and I prefer Nolan's films.
3. You can't just say "Long-term Batman fans prefer Burton's movies.", as if there has been some study done. The films are completely different styles, so unless someone is the most die-hard Batman fan who loves him in every entertainment medium, it is natural for people to like one or the other. But that doesn't mean that one series is objectively better than the other.
@rpsmith014: Oh spare me! You're not a Batman fan, just because you watched a couple of Batman productions doesn't mean you're a fan. Your view is that of the typical outsider who doesn't know what makes Batman great. REAL fans won't just accept Nolan's changes beause they ignore everything that made Batman so great. Nolan's basically redrawn a circle as a square and is still calling it a circle. Not to mention that Batman's voice sucks, and only an IDIOT would condone it.
@Fantezism You need to chill the hell out. How can you get so worked up over someone having a different opinion than you ABOUT A MOVIE. Also, then what is a "Batman fan"?
@rpsmith014: You chill. I'm as calm as one can be. I'm just making a point: I'm tired of producers like Nolan who ruin good concepts by ”remaking” them however they please. A Batman fan is someone who appreciates Batman's story and finds inspiration in it. I'm a FAN, not a fanboy. That said, it's only natural that long-term fans who have found inspiration in Batman's story and grew up on its cinematic and cartoon adaptations should be put off by Nolan and his fanboys' arrogance.
@Fantezism But that's the thing, Nolan didn't ruin a good concept, you just don't like his adaptation of it. Stop speaking like all of your opinions are factual, and stop calling people who love the Nolan films "arrogant fanboys". Burton's films were more sci-fi/fantasy based where as Nolan's films were based in reality. Each director has praised each others' films and they aren't competing for which is the better Batman series. They each bring something good to the character.
@rpsmith014: In case you didn't notice most of the people who like Nolan's films are Ledger fanboys and praise Nolan only for Ledger's sake. And I'm tired of it. Burton's films weren't sci-fi (I don't remember seeing zombies, ghosts and UFOs while watching them). Burton struck the PERFECT balance between reality and fiction. Nolan on the other hand wanted to milk the Batman franchise and make a name for himself by catering to Ledger's fanboys who think make-up=scary.
@Fantezism "Nolan on the other hand wanted to milk the Batman franchise and make a name for himself by catering to Ledger's fanboys who think make-up=scary." Really? I say again, really? First of all, there have been plenty of Batman comic series that base the character in a much more realistic setting. Burton isn't the authority on Batman, the character has been evolving for 70 years as I'm sure you know, and he will continue to.[...cont]
@rpsmith014: None of those series based Batman in a city that looked like Chicago or depicted the Joker as a member of Slipknot. The Dark Knight is pretty much the equivalent of The Karate Kid 2. They're both unnecessary, useless and ignore everything that made their original concepts great. We've had enough sequels and prequels and remakes. Give me something original any day.
@Fantezism "None of those series based Batman in a city that looked like Chicago or depicted the Joker as a member of Slipknot." "Give me something original any day." -__-
@rpsmith014: I'm serious ! Haven't we had enough of remakes and sequels ? Isn't it high time Nolan and the rest of Hollywood stopped ruining classic movies/heroes and started coming up with something original for a change ?
@Fantezism Just wondering, did you get my personal message? And like I said, Nolan's intent wasn't to create remakes of previous Batman films, it was just his own adaptation and vision that he was passionate about bringing life. It wasn't some attempt to get his name out there with a run-of-the-mill summer blockbuster.
@rpsmith014: Well Nolan's passions are unoriginal and should really do something else for a change rather than steal and ruin someone else's ideas. As with The Karate Kid 2, The Dark Knight is an unnecessary remake whose supporters are for the most part Ledger fanboys who wouldn't care about the flick if their idol weren't in it. Nolan should turn the Justice League or Batman Beyond into a movie, that would be something.
@Fantezism Ugh. He didn't "Steal" anybody's idea. If that's your logic then so did Burton. AGAIN IT IS NOT A REMAKE And many people did not know who Heath Ledger was before this film. You can't say that the fans are mostly "Ledger fanboys" because the film was so incredibly popular, and still is.
@rpsmith014: It's popular among Ledger fanboys, for the most part. It's still popular today for the same reason Bruce Lee's movies are: it's got a lot of fanboys who mystify every piece of crap their idols take part in. It's the truth and you know it and you agree with me so stop contradicting me.
@Fantezism And did you get the quote from Burton on Christopher Nolan that I sent you, how he thinks that Nolan did an excellent job on the film and is closer to how Batman should be portrayed in film?
@rpsmith014: Burton collaborated with Bob Kane, unlike Nolan who just did what he wanted without any regard for his predecessors' works. Say what you will...IT IS A REMAKE. If it's not a remake then what is it ?
@rpsmith014 ””” And did you get the quote from Burton on Christopher Nolan that I sent you, how he thinks that Nolan did an excellent job on the film and is closer to how Batman should be portrayed in film? ””””
@rpsmith014: And FYI...50,000 of Ledger's moronic fanboys sent Warner Brothers a petititon asking them to retire The Joker and not use him anymore....just for Ledger's sake. You see they argued that Ledger's performance was just so damn good that no actor would be able to top it. Is it really still necessary for me to explain why TDK is overrated ?
@Fantezism "It's the truth and you know it and you agree with me so stop contradicting me." Wow, what a fine argument. The truth is, Heath Ledger was a young and immensely talented actor, who had a bright future in cinema had he not passed. You basically hate something because a lot of people like it. That's just what it seems like to me.
@rpsmith014: On the contrary, you like things because someone else hates them. So what if Ledger was a promising actor ? It doesn't change the fact that he and TDK are HORRIBLY overrated. When things beome the objects of cultic worship (as is the case with Ledger and TDK) they PISS ME OFF. I didn't buy into the Harry Potter and LOTR hypes, and I'm certainly not going to buy into this one. If there's anything I like doing, it's to go against the hype. Ask any Bruce Lee fanboy.
@rpsmith014: Oh gee ! Pardon me for having a BRAIN and not buying into hypes. Frodo's emotion chart: happy O,o - sad O,o - scared O,o - angry O,o - tired O,o etc. I like actors who can really deliver a truly unique performance, not Hollywood dolls and playboys whose only claim to fame is their obscene numbers of fanboys.
@Fantezism you are a fucking idiot. Anyone with "half a brain" can see even if Ledger did not die he did the best joker act ever created. Bale does suck as batman. But going so far to say Ledger was "overrated" makes me believe all you care for is being the one to disagree with the current. What does two plus two equal may I ask? I mean really? "I don't buy into all the hype" What are you paranoid of fictional characters? Did the easter bunny steal your lunch money when you grew up?
@Carjos07: You said just what a Ledger fanboy would say. Yes, Ledger is overrated. Why is he overrated ? Because he's been given more credit than he deserves. His Joker isn't the best.
@Fantezism Okay, then whom is your favorite joker so I can call you a fanboy and nothing more? Whoever that joker was, is obviously overrated because its my opinion and yours doesn't matter right?
Look dipshit. I'm a huge Joker Fanatic, from the first portral of him to Ledgers. The Joker is SUPPOSED to be more chaos violence and ruthless aggression then jokes. His humour was twisted enough as Ledgers, (the pencil trick) is a good example. But he didn't care for his own well being.
@Carjos07: You are just a Ledger fanboy who praises everything he did, regardless of how bad it was. The pencil trick was marginally funny, and one swallow doesn't make a summer. You aren't a Batman fan. PERIOD. So don't go around telling long-term fans which Joker is better. Okay ?
@Fantezism I mean real talk, your complaint is that he didn't wear make up and his jokes were off color? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?! you moronic cartoon. I've been a batman fan since the org
@rpsmith014: And stop repeating the Nolan's-Batman-is-based-in-reality thing. Batman is a fictitious character living in a fictitious city. Any attempt to make the story seem as real as possible is ridiculous. Ever wondered why the city's name is GOTHAM ? It's supposed to remind you of a town with tall dark buildings. Nolan made Gotham look like Chicago ! WE DON'T NEED REMAKES. The circle is complete. Nolan should just come up with an original concept instead of ruining classic ones.
@rpsmith014 You're stating the problem. There are fanboys that would pick one set of movies over the other. These people have a tenancy of making blind and illogical remarks to put over what interests them which I see a lot with Nolan fanboys. I'm a BATMAN fan I enjoy everything that's out there unless it's a Schumacher film or a low budget serial. The true story and events are in the comics. If you want to put over TDK then go on the appropriate video. You'll only piss ppl off here
@rpsmith014 And by emo-freakish I mean : too much make-up and too many corny dialogues about life & people, too many references to the Joker-wannabe's scars (only emo kids cut themselves and talk about it), Batman's voice which at many points in the movie is just UNBEARABLE to hear, the Joker-wannabe's humorlessness and lack of witty comebacks (the real Joker would have made fun of Batman's voice) and his lipstick that looks like a moustache. Do you want me to continue the list ?
@Fantezism I always thought that as well. The Nolan bat suit's ears aren't long enough, and the suit looks better in '89 because the cape covers the shoulders like a cloak.
@stomyn Have you only watched the movies because the joker was a mob leader and that is how he turned into the joker but he did not kill batmans parents
Ok, I know a lot of people praise Jack Nicholson as a great Joker, but me I just can't get past this one giant fail on Burton's part: he gave the Joker a definitive origin. Part of the Joker's most prominent aspects is that nobody knows who he is or where he came from. Oh, their are theories, but their isn't any confirmed origin. This gives one to him, and it kind of takes away the air of mystery that should surround him
wait wait wait so the chemicals bleached his skin or what???? Cause later in the movie his face is normal color and now his hand is white with green nails!! O.o
I don't know why but as a little kid this was my favorite scene and whenever I hear batman I think of this scene because its how joker came to be originally which why I like this film and joker better. the dark knight was a great movie but I don't know the jokers background in nolan's film
@TheJustCreative Yes blind as a bat:D No serious dude, it happened in 1 very quick second. You need to watch very carefully to see it. But thanks for your description.
its SO damn obvious that batman dropped him on purpose. look at his eyes, he clearly saw something he didnt like (possible reminded him of his parents killer?) and gave him the old sandbag treatment.
Please. He didn't drop him on purpose. He couldn't hold on. Pay attention to him letting his hand go on the bar. I doubt he would let go if he figure Bat was going to drop him. In fact, why did Bat even grab on to him if he was going to let him go. He would just watch him & not grab him at all if he wanted to drop him there.
@armadoanthony Oh yeah, it's great how Batman had no problem killing people he didn't like with no regard for law, due process, or anything like that becoming the worst kind of vigilante (and aside from the argument of whether he dropped Jack purposely in this scene, he actively and deliberately killed several people between this and Returns... and was quite pleased with himself, too).
@TheTigerwolf55 Nothing wrong with that. After all why should Batman care about criminals lives if he's about saving innocent lives? Plus it was just the occasional kill. Batman has killed in every incarnation in the comics. Even in a number of recent issues (if you're keeping up). He has a tendency of sometimes losing control of his temper due to his anger. And, once again, he DID NOT intentionally drop Jack. The script indicates it was a bad grip and Jack "slipped away".
One of my favourite films of all time and also one of my all time favourite scenes, but just noticed looking back at the bad continuity of the editing...
Its funny how that while Jack Nicholson is known for his badboy image in movies, the guy that does his voice in the cartoons Mark Hamill is more know for playing Luke Skywalker who is nothing like either Jack Nicholson or the Joker.
@DarkLordDiablos lol Tell me about it. When I was a kid (in the early 90's) I was equally a huge fan of Batman the Animated Series and Star Wars. It wasn't until recently when I found out that the Joker, after all of these years, was voiced by Luke Skywalker.
Most of the movies I've seen Mark Hamill in have been good guy roles where Jack Nicholson is usually palying the bad guy as its what he's known for.
After all could you see Mark Hamill in "One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" or playing Colonel Nathan Jessep in "Afew Good Men" and getting the same kind of reviews for the performance?
This is why the Ledger Joker was so much better than this. The Joker wasn't designed to be a common thug chemicals brought out. He's a soul that something hit him at some point so hard he went mad. Or the other theory is he was a genius who simply saw the world as cruel and was inspired by Batman that the regular people can come out and change the world. Yet he wanted to change it to a burning world.
@Charlesperalo The Ledger Joker was just some random nihilist who spouted off wannabe Nietzsche stuff. Joker is supposed to be a truly chaotic entity that inflicts horrors and suffering without any justification to his actions, because that sort of thing is beneath him. He's not someone to feel sympathy for, nor are you meant to really think over anything he says because it's likely just him messing with people.
@ShadowSonic2 Well I'm gonna say we got the right Joker with Ledger. Simply due to him being all those things with a mystery to him. Also come on an italian gangster falls into a pit of chemicals and goes bananas. That was a joke of a story line and doesn't serve the Joker justice.
@Charlesperalo It's no more sillier than a rich guy dressing up as a bat to beat up criminals at night ;).
Ledger was a good villain, but not the best Joker. He could've been some random terrorist and it wouldn't change much except the Joker name has 70 years of backing.
@ShadowSonic2 Well you see that's the thing he has a lot in common with Batman yet he's the opposite. He's likely had experiences in life that made him the opposite of Batman. A bat is something to fear and a clown is something to laugh at. Ledger was successfully able to unite the similarities between him and Batman. Also Jack fell victim to a lot of really weak story wholes in writing. How he killed Batman's parents, how he dies at the end and above all the acid.
@Charlesperalo I don't see any similarities between Ledger's Joker and Batman, really. And the acid is part of every Joker origin (when he's given one), so that's not a real complaint. Having it just be makeup is the weak stuff, I much rather the inversion: He wears makeup to look human, but is really bleached without it. And Ledger's Joker wasn't that funny (Nicholson did the "Pen/Pencil as a weapon" thing before him).
@ShadowSonic2 Well to the acid being part of every Joker I prefer the no origin Joker far better simply due to the greater mystery. Also to Ledger and Batman being similar of course they were. Joker was a troubled soul like Batman yet they would do the opposite. Even who they are represents that. The Joker is made to be an absolute nut yet he does this for more than just acid. Also this didn't even have the class to get into the dead wife or anything. I'm sorry yet Jack was a popcorn clown.
@Charlesperalo Ledger's Joker was not a "troubled soul", all those stories he told about his origin were all made up to mess with people. He's just an anarchist who steals money (like any other thief) and brags about stuff to Gotham's crimelords while using Batman as a false justification to terrorize Gotham when truth is he'd just be terrorizing them even if Batman wasn't around. Plus, the dead wife thing wasn't part of Joker's origin until the 80s, and TDK didn't use it either.
@ShadowSonic2 Well the thing is Dark Knight didn't have to use it for the Joker they wanted. Yet it didn't make much sense that Napier was just a thug and went mad. If they went with the wife, the failed comedy career, his experience in chemical and mechanical engineering and how he was actually a good guy it would of worked far more. Yet they just made him a character who should be dead who gets worse. The Ledger Joker had problems in childhood yet you don't know if false or real.
@Charlesperalo The whole "Joker was a widowed chemical engineer" thing was always just meant to be a possible origin for him, Alan Moore never intended for it to be his definitive origin. Before that, Joker's origin pretty much was what we see here: He was a criminal (The Red Hood) who was disfigured in a robbery because of Batman's interference.
@ShadowSonic2 Yes yet don't you understand how the mystery is what makes the Joker better and that's why Ledger is better. Not to mention he can act a million times better.
@Charlesperalo No, the mystery allows massive laziness on behalf of the writers. And Ledger wasn't a better actor than Nicholson, if he hadn't died he wouldn't have nearly as much hype surrounding him as he does.
@Charlesperalo Nah sorry mate, Ledger isn't the better actor. Whether or not he played a better Joker is certainly worth discussing, but in terms of acting talent he wasn't even in the same league as Nicholson.
Ledger was only ever in three good films that I know of, Brokeback Mountain, Candy and The Dark Knight. Nicholson on the other hand has been in far too many good films for me to actually list them all in this comment due to the word limit.
@Charlesperalo And..? He died in his twenties, at which point he was not a better actor than Jack Nicholson. Sure, maybe he'd have gained experience with age and maybe his talent would have improved, but that's purely speculative. And unfortunately it always will be.
And even if he hadn't died so young, to this day he'd still have a very long way to go in order to match Jack Nicholson's acting talent.
@ShadowSonic2 And also, Ledger Joker lacks to innate connection Joker is supposed to have to Batman in how Bats was partially responsible for Joker's "birth". Ledger's Joker says stuff like how they're connected, but there's nothing backing that up.
@CyanideMonoxide He tried to save him. It was jsut that Bats had a bad grip and couldn't pull him back up. Plus, it wasn't until Joker approached Bruce and told him "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" that he remebered he was his killer.
This is my favorite version of the origin, no sympathy, he's just a nasty evil man who already had all the qualities to be the Joker, he just needed the little "push" or "bad day" (whichever you prefer) to become crazy & be the Joker. Some people just aren't wired up right & don't need tragedies.
Also I like my Joker to have bleached skin mainly because that scene when the Joker sees his face, now chalk white & a smile he'll never lose is the final thing that just makes him snap I love it.
When the bullet ricocheted and hit the machine beside him did the bullet fragment and strike his face? Or was the bullet intact and went though his face?
I've never understood how Joker is scarred. He shoots Batman, and Bats apparently sports bulletproof gauntlets. Glass is then shown being shattered, and Jack's face is suddenly squirting blood. Did Bats deflect the bullet to Jack's face? Did the bullet split and one part fly into the glass? Or did Bats deflect the bullet into the glass, and it's the glass that rips Jack's face open (if that's the case, how the hell did that glass fly into Jack's face)? :S
@AdamWeith Batman's entire bat suit was bullet-proof from small-arms fire with kevlar. Jack fired a round at Batman, Batman blocked the bullet with his gauntlet, the bullet ricochet into nearby metal, and hit Jack in the face and teared opened his cheeks and damaged the nerves. When the surgeon tried to repair the tears in his cheeks it had the end result of giving him the permanent highly-exaggerated grin on his face. The chemicals he fell into bleached his skin and made his hair turn green.
@AdamWeith I didn't see a glass window, to me it looked like some kind of metal piece of machinery in the plant. If you stop the video when the bullet deflects off of Batman's gauntlet it appears to ricochet into some metal piece of machinery and then strike Jack in the face.
@AnimeLoverOfMusic You can't believe that a vat of chemicals would scar someone but you don't question there is a man dressed at a bat trying to fight crime in the same scene? You are watching the wrong film.
"Jack Napier" is a play on 'jackanapes," one of those Bill O'Reilly words at the end of his show, and it refers to a conceited self-absorbed man who doesn't care what effect his actions have on others. (Some may think Bill's one himself; your call.) Some trace the Joker's post-vat face to a film called The Man Who Laughs; supposedly Bob Kane said it was based on the logo for an old amusement park, Steeplechase Park; I may be the only one who thinks "Guy Fawkes" in V For Vendetta.
@Kanefan701 Actually that's not true. According to the script he had no idea that Jack killed his parents until the scene in the Batcave where they made it obvious. And also, in the script it specifically said Batman had a bad grip and Jack slipped away.

@biostyle From the script:
Batman leaps and tries to grab Jack's hand.
Jack drops but catches himself on a pipe. He's slipping.
Batman reaches, gets a poor grip. He stares, perplexed.
at the stricken expression in Jack's eyes.
Jack is sliding out of Batman's grasp. A long BEAT --
Jack looks up at him in terror and SLIPS AWAY to plunge
the TWO STORIES DOWN into the CATCH BASIN of BUBBLING,
TOXIC WASTE, SCREAMING ALL THE WAY.

Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism You need to chill the hell out. How can you get so worked up over someone having a different opinion than you ABOUT A MOVIE. Also, then what is a "Batman fan"?
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: You chill. I'm as calm as one can be. I'm just making a point: I'm tired of producers like Nolan who ruin good concepts by ”remaking” them however they please. A Batman fan is someone who appreciates Batman's story and finds inspiration in it. I'm a FAN, not a fanboy. That said, it's only natural that long-term fans who have found inspiration in Batman's story and grew up on its cinematic and cartoon adaptations should be put off by Nolan and his fanboys' arrogance.
Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism But that's the thing, Nolan didn't ruin a good concept, you just don't like his adaptation of it. Stop speaking like all of your opinions are factual, and stop calling people who love the Nolan films "arrogant fanboys". Burton's films were more sci-fi/fantasy based where as Nolan's films were based in reality. Each director has praised each others' films and they aren't competing for which is the better Batman series. They each bring something good to the character.
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: In case you didn't notice most of the people who like Nolan's films are Ledger fanboys and praise Nolan only for Ledger's sake. And I'm tired of it. Burton's films weren't sci-fi (I don't remember seeing zombies, ghosts and UFOs while watching them). Burton struck the PERFECT balance between reality and fiction. Nolan on the other hand wanted to milk the Batman franchise and make a name for himself by catering to Ledger's fanboys who think make-up=scary.
Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism "Nolan on the other hand wanted to milk the Batman franchise and make a name for himself by catering to Ledger's fanboys who think make-up=scary." Really? I say again, really? First of all, there have been plenty of Batman comic series that base the character in a much more realistic setting. Burton isn't the authority on Batman, the character has been evolving for 70 years as I'm sure you know, and he will continue to.[...cont]
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: None of those series based Batman in a city that looked like Chicago or depicted the Joker as a member of Slipknot. The Dark Knight is pretty much the equivalent of The Karate Kid 2. They're both unnecessary, useless and ignore everything that made their original concepts great. We've had enough sequels and prequels and remakes. Give me something original any day.

@rpsmith014: I'm serious ! Haven't we had enough of remakes and sequels ? Isn't it high time Nolan and the rest of Hollywood stopped ruining classic movies/heroes and started coming up with something original for a change ?
Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism Just wondering, did you get my personal message? And like I said, Nolan's intent wasn't to create remakes of previous Batman films, it was just his own adaptation and vision that he was passionate about bringing life. It wasn't some attempt to get his name out there with a run-of-the-mill summer blockbuster.
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: Well Nolan's passions are unoriginal and should really do something else for a change rather than steal and ruin someone else's ideas. As with The Karate Kid 2, The Dark Knight is an unnecessary remake whose supporters are for the most part Ledger fanboys who wouldn't care about the flick if their idol weren't in it. Nolan should turn the Justice League or Batman Beyond into a movie, that would be something.
Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism Ugh. He didn't "Steal" anybody's idea. If that's your logic then so did Burton. AGAIN IT IS NOT A REMAKE And many people did not know who Heath Ledger was before this film. You can't say that the fans are mostly "Ledger fanboys" because the film was so incredibly popular, and still is.
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: It's popular among Ledger fanboys, for the most part. It's still popular today for the same reason Bruce Lee's movies are: it's got a lot of fanboys who mystify every piece of crap their idols take part in. It's the truth and you know it and you agree with me so stop contradicting me.
Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism And did you get the quote from Burton on Christopher Nolan that I sent you, how he thinks that Nolan did an excellent job on the film and is closer to how Batman should be portrayed in film?
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: Burton collaborated with Bob Kane, unlike Nolan who just did what he wanted without any regard for his predecessors' works. Say what you will...IT IS A REMAKE. If it's not a remake then what is it ?

Fantezism 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: And FYI...50,000 of Ledger's moronic fanboys sent Warner Brothers a petititon asking them to retire The Joker and not use him anymore....just for Ledger's sake. You see they argued that Ledger's performance was just so damn good that no actor would be able to top it. Is it really still necessary for me to explain why TDK is overrated ?
Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism "It's the truth and you know it and you agree with me so stop contradicting me." Wow, what a fine argument. The truth is, Heath Ledger was a young and immensely talented actor, who had a bright future in cinema had he not passed. You basically hate something because a lot of people like it. That's just what it seems like to me.
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: On the contrary, you like things because someone else hates them. So what if Ledger was a promising actor ? It doesn't change the fact that he and TDK are HORRIBLY overrated. When things beome the objects of cultic worship (as is the case with Ledger and TDK) they PISS ME OFF. I didn't buy into the Harry Potter and LOTR hypes, and I'm certainly not going to buy into this one. If there's anything I like doing, it's to go against the hype. Ask any Bruce Lee fanboy.

@Fantezism You're ridiculous. Enough with all this "fanboy" shit.
rpsmith014 1 week ago
@Fantezism you are a fucking idiot. Anyone with "half a brain" can see even if Ledger did not die he did the best joker act ever created. Bale does suck as batman. But going so far to say Ledger was "overrated" makes me believe all you care for is being the one to disagree with the current. What does two plus two equal may I ask? I mean really? "I don't buy into all the hype" What are you paranoid of fictional characters? Did the easter bunny steal your lunch money when you grew up?
Carjos07 1 week ago
@Carjos07: You said just what a Ledger fanboy would say. Yes, Ledger is overrated. Why is he overrated ? Because he's been given more credit than he deserves. His Joker isn't the best.
Fantezism 1 week ago
@Fantezism Okay, then whom is your favorite joker so I can call you a fanboy and nothing more? Whoever that joker was, is obviously overrated because its my opinion and yours doesn't matter right?
Look dipshit. I'm a huge Joker Fanatic, from the first portral of him to Ledgers. The Joker is SUPPOSED to be more chaos violence and ruthless aggression then jokes. His humour was twisted enough as Ledgers, (the pencil trick) is a good example. But he didn't care for his own well being.
Carjos07 1 week ago
@Carjos07: You are just a Ledger fanboy who praises everything he did, regardless of how bad it was. The pencil trick was marginally funny, and one swallow doesn't make a summer. You aren't a Batman fan. PERIOD. So don't go around telling long-term fans which Joker is better. Okay ?

@Fantezism Don't go that route Tiger.
Carjos07 1 week ago
@rpsmith014: And stop repeating the Nolan's-Batman-is-based-in-reality thing. Batman is a fictitious character living in a fictitious city. Any attempt to make the story seem as real as possible is ridiculous. Ever wondered why the city's name is GOTHAM ? It's supposed to remind you of a town with tall dark buildings. Nolan made Gotham look like Chicago ! WE DON'T NEED REMAKES. The circle is complete. Nolan should just come up with an original concept instead of ruining classic ones.
Fantezism 1 week ago
@rpsmith014 You're stating the problem. There are fanboys that would pick one set of movies over the other. These people have a tenancy of making blind and illogical remarks to put over what interests them which I see a lot with Nolan fanboys. I'm a BATMAN fan I enjoy everything that's out there unless it's a Schumacher film or a low budget serial. The true story and events are in the comics. If you want to put over TDK then go on the appropriate video. You'll only piss ppl off here

TheTigerwolf55 3 months ago
@TheTigerwolf55 Nothing wrong with that. After all why should Batman care about criminals lives if he's about saving innocent lives? Plus it was just the occasional kill. Batman has killed in every incarnation in the comics. Even in a number of recent issues (if you're keeping up). He has a tendency of sometimes losing control of his temper due to his anger. And, once again, he DID NOT intentionally drop Jack. The script indicates it was a bad grip and Jack "slipped away".

IchibifiedGaara 4 months ago
This is why the Ledger Joker was so much better than this. The Joker wasn't designed to be a common thug chemicals brought out. He's a soul that something hit him at some point so hard he went mad. Or the other theory is he was a genius who simply saw the world as cruel and was inspired by Batman that the regular people can come out and change the world. Yet he wanted to change it to a burning world.
Charlesperalo 5 months ago
@Charlesperalo The Ledger Joker was just some random nihilist who spouted off wannabe Nietzsche stuff. Joker is supposed to be a truly chaotic entity that inflicts horrors and suffering without any justification to his actions, because that sort of thing is beneath him. He's not someone to feel sympathy for, nor are you meant to really think over anything he says because it's likely just him messing with people.
ShadowSonic2 4 months ago
@ShadowSonic2 Well I'm gonna say we got the right Joker with Ledger. Simply due to him being all those things with a mystery to him. Also come on an italian gangster falls into a pit of chemicals and goes bananas. That was a joke of a story line and doesn't serve the Joker justice.
Charlesperalo 4 months ago
@Charlesperalo It's no more sillier than a rich guy dressing up as a bat to beat up criminals at night ;).
Ledger was a good villain, but not the best Joker. He could've been some random terrorist and it wouldn't change much except the Joker name has 70 years of backing.
ShadowSonic2 4 months ago
@ShadowSonic2 Well you see that's the thing he has a lot in common with Batman yet he's the opposite. He's likely had experiences in life that made him the opposite of Batman. A bat is something to fear and a clown is something to laugh at. Ledger was successfully able to unite the similarities between him and Batman. Also Jack fell victim to a lot of really weak story wholes in writing. How he killed Batman's parents, how he dies at the end and above all the acid.
Charlesperalo 4 months ago
@Charlesperalo I don't see any similarities between Ledger's Joker and Batman, really. And the acid is part of every Joker origin (when he's given one), so that's not a real complaint. Having it just be makeup is the weak stuff, I much rather the inversion: He wears makeup to look human, but is really bleached without it. And Ledger's Joker wasn't that funny (Nicholson did the "Pen/Pencil as a weapon" thing before him).
ShadowSonic2 4 months ago
@ShadowSonic2 Well to the acid being part of every Joker I prefer the no origin Joker far better simply due to the greater mystery. Also to Ledger and Batman being similar of course they were. Joker was a troubled soul like Batman yet they would do the opposite. Even who they are represents that. The Joker is made to be an absolute nut yet he does this for more than just acid. Also this didn't even have the class to get into the dead wife or anything. I'm sorry yet Jack was a popcorn clown.
Charlesperalo 4 months ago
@Charlesperalo Ledger's Joker was not a "troubled soul", all those stories he told about his origin were all made up to mess with people. He's just an anarchist who steals money (like any other thief) and brags about stuff to Gotham's crimelords while using Batman as a false justification to terrorize Gotham when truth is he'd just be terrorizing them even if Batman wasn't around. Plus, the dead wife thing wasn't part of Joker's origin until the 80s, and TDK didn't use it either.
ShadowSonic2 4 months ago
@ShadowSonic2 Well the thing is Dark Knight didn't have to use it for the Joker they wanted. Yet it didn't make much sense that Napier was just a thug and went mad. If they went with the wife, the failed comedy career, his experience in chemical and mechanical engineering and how he was actually a good guy it would of worked far more. Yet they just made him a character who should be dead who gets worse. The Ledger Joker had problems in childhood yet you don't know if false or real.
Charlesperalo 4 months ago
@Charlesperalo The whole "Joker was a widowed chemical engineer" thing was always just meant to be a possible origin for him, Alan Moore never intended for it to be his definitive origin. Before that, Joker's origin pretty much was what we see here: He was a criminal (The Red Hood) who was disfigured in a robbery because of Batman's interference.
ShadowSonic2 4 months ago
@ShadowSonic2 Yes yet don't you understand how the mystery is what makes the Joker better and that's why Ledger is better. Not to mention he can act a million times better.
Charlesperalo 4 months ago
@Charlesperalo No, the mystery allows massive laziness on behalf of the writers. And Ledger wasn't a better actor than Nicholson, if he hadn't died he wouldn't have nearly as much hype surrounding him as he does.
ShadowSonic2 4 months ago
@Charlesperalo Nah sorry mate, Ledger isn't the better actor. Whether or not he played a better Joker is certainly worth discussing, but in terms of acting talent he wasn't even in the same league as Nicholson.
Ledger was only ever in three good films that I know of, Brokeback Mountain, Candy and The Dark Knight. Nicholson on the other hand has been in far too many good films for me to actually list them all in this comment due to the word limit.

@l3awl3ag Ledger died in his 20s.
Charlesperalo 4 months ago
@Charlesperalo And..? He died in his twenties, at which point he was not a better actor than Jack Nicholson. Sure, maybe he'd have gained experience with age and maybe his talent would have improved, but that's purely speculative. And unfortunately it always will be.
And even if he hadn't died so young, to this day he'd still have a very long way to go in order to match Jack Nicholson's acting talent.

yohb7 4 months ago

@CyanideMonoxide He tried to save him. It was jsut that Bats had a bad grip and couldn't pull him back up. Plus, it wasn't until Joker approached Bruce and told him "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" that he remebered he was his killer.
KOOLDudefilms 5 months ago
This is my favorite version of the origin, no sympathy, he's just a nasty evil man who already had all the qualities to be the Joker, he just needed the little "push" or "bad day" (whichever you prefer) to become crazy & be the Joker. Some people just aren't wired up right & don't need tragedies.
Also I like my Joker to have bleached skin mainly because that scene when the Joker sees his face, now chalk white & a smile he'll never lose is the final thing that just makes him snap I love it.

AdamWeith 6 months ago
@AdamWeith Batman's entire bat suit was bullet-proof from small-arms fire with kevlar. Jack fired a round at Batman, Batman blocked the bullet with his gauntlet, the bullet ricochet into nearby metal, and hit Jack in the face and teared opened his cheeks and damaged the nerves. When the surgeon tried to repair the tears in his cheeks it had the end result of giving him the permanent highly-exaggerated grin on his face. The chemicals he fell into bleached his skin and made his hair turn green.

@AdamWeith It looks like the window or whatever shattered right on his face which tore open his cheeks.
MisterMeddle 6 months ago
@AdamWeith I didn't see a glass window, to me it looked like some kind of metal piece of machinery in the plant. If you stop the video when the bullet deflects off of Batman's gauntlet it appears to ricochet into some metal piece of machinery and then strike Jack in the face.

.....only the nerves in his FACE?
hard to believe O.o

Batman dropped him into that vat of chemicals. That wasn't easy for him to get over, but don't think that he didn't try.

@FuckYouAndYourCousin Judging from your amount of thumbs, I assume this is some kind of joke or reference? :)

@MrQueenie Yes. It was in reference to dialogue later in the film during the final fight.

Batman remembered that it was the Jack who killed his parents so he got revenge on him by what you see in the video.
Kanefan701 6 months ago 7
@Kanefan701 Actually that's not true. According to the script he had no idea that Jack killed his parents until the scene in the Batcave where they made it obvious. And also, in the script it specifically said Batman had a bad grip and Jack slipped away.

@MisterMeddle Oh, sorry, my mistake.
