While Lina's lecture is entertaining it is also inaccurate. When she says it doesn't do anything to a human, that's wrong, humans and weaker monsters stand no chance against the Ra Tilt. The only reason it hit the monster and not Gourry is because the Ra Tilt is designed to hit one target at a time. Every living being has an Astral Body.
