Fredette won a gold medal at 6days on this bike. theyre all more or less made the same because alot of them race in a class of all the makes. there is not a large variation in the designs of 2 or 4 strokes across all manufacturers ...at least for dirtbikes. quads are same thing kinda. the racey types

i have a 2011 model awesome bike.note all enduro bikes in australia suck balls stock !! got it $2500 cheaper than the ktm450 $1500 cheaper than th wr's.i spent $320 on a FMF pipe $180 on a rejet and did a air box plus a fuel needle and it runs as hard as if not harder than my mates 2010KTM450/2008WR450/RMZ400 don't ask pro riders to test stock bikes they will never give you good results as all riders are different especally loyalties.Check out "MXTV's klx450 2009 test" and then same bike modded

I own an 03 RM250 and ride with friends with 450's. Dirt riding was meant for 2 strokes, the smell and unpredictable power. The manufactures are trying to force everyone to ride expensive 4 strokes that are heavy and have to go to a shop for maintanence. We need to keep 2 strokes alive.
@bobtsfishin if you can screw a bolt you can rebuild any of those small 4 stroke engine. . . do it yourself . well , i have over 200hours on a KTM 450 with a 570 big bore . . . with no rebuild what so ever.

@Fowelbow For your 1st bike? if your under 5 foot than like a tt-r125 (yamaha) maybe a (honda) crf 150f if your over like 5'4ish than a tt-r230/crf230f they are all great bikes to start out on fun easy and cheap you will love any of them trust me
@herse88 a 2 smoke for a first bike? constant engine maintenance and learning about oil mixtures... yeah there fun and light but the power curve for a beginner is a bit steep. 4 strokes aren't as heavy as they use to be anyway and the power is always going to be there when you ask for it. ktm's are very nice bikes and expensive, for a first timer he will be coming off a lot so will need to fork out a lot of cash
The maintenance isn't rocket science. I recently bought my first dirt bike "01 RM 250" and everything is pretty self explanatory. I do all the tune ups on my own. It's very simple. You cant go wrong with a 2 stroke. I ridden my buddy's 08 CR450 with a full yoshi exhaust, and i find my RM 250 a whole lot more fun to ride on or off the track.
a 450? either she pretty big or one hell of a rider. and its going to cost easily $5000. im sure more. id find here something cheaper. unless she is a good enough rider and will ride enough

I live in a town called Rocky Mountain House in the foothills of Alberta and within 20 minutes drive there's atleast 10 riding spots with LOTS and lotso f trails, lots of races and harescrambles, awesome place to live riding wise, just not enough snow for the leds in the winter

I live in a town called Rocky Mountain House in the foothills of Alberta and within 20 minutes drive there's atleast 10 riding spots with LOTS and lotso f trails, lots of races and harescrambles, awesome place to live riding wise, just not enough snow for the leds in the winter

uhm, ya, well, where i live we get piles of snow for sledding, and we have piles of trails right near my house, I haven't been on 95% of the trails near my house and I go dirtbiking pretty often

well no shit its a 1979 xr 500 ive ridden the new four stokes before and personaly i dont like em very much to under powered its the 2 strokes that are great i only have a 500 4 stroke from the 70s case well its a four stroke ive got all 2 strokes like my 85 rz 350 89 kx 80 81 cr 80 and im looking for a 83 cr 480

i don't know where you got video games out of what i said...makes you sound like a moron to be honest. anyways, you should try putting a different tire on the back and see how easy it is to keep the front end down. and by the way, the XR 500's stock 100 mph top speed doesn't sound very slow to me
