I think my cat has this too, but its hard to me to catch it on video. How did you manage this. Do they just end up having it from when their born? Does genetics contribute to this?? Please let me know, I'm bringing my poor little guy to the vet.
My cat did the same thing. The vets could not figure it out. She ended up getting very thirsty all the time. The vets determined it was a form of diabetes insipidus. She passed away yesterday.
Please take your cat to the vet. If they cannot figure out what it is, get another vet.
Do you give your cat greens? Or does Doggles go outside?
I know greens are necessary for a cats healthy diet. My indoor cat gets fresh wheat grass blades, iris and hemerocalys. If I don't feed her this, she hacks, although not as dramaticaly as doggles.
If it is not a hairball it is possible that the cat has a chronic upper respiratory infection. Many, many cats have them and most of the infections are resistant to antibiotics. Generally, not a problem. The cats just sound awful at times. Not a vet, but stayed at a ...
Most of the cats I've known cough like this sometimes, though usually they put their bodies near the ground & lengthen them rather than standing up high as Doggles does here. Also, most of the time there is that little swallow at the end which is, I think, the cat swallowing what has come up (hairball and/or mucus). It might not be a hairball but dust he's breathed in from a corner he's been snuffling around in.
My ocicat hacks occasionally and never has spit up a hairball. When he hacks it sounds like he is coughing. Sometimes there is small hairballs in his puke though. BTW, my kitty is the same color as yours!
Have you heard of FAR?

Yep, this was confirmed by the vet to be feline asthma, and doggles is being treated. Thanks for everyone's help.

Did you ever find out what was wrong? My cat does almost the same thing (she does it a little more rapidly).

Hmm. Looks to me like he has a cold. Could also be a case of feline influenza.
