Millo is the result of centuries of operatic evolution. All of the great singers of the past were just precursors paving the way for this supreme voice that stands alone. Millo encompasses all of these great singers in one artistic spirit, in our time. She is the ultimate embodiment of musicality and interpretation of the operatic art, a human cornucopia of God-given originality and artistry. She has taken music to new heights that we will probably never see again.
w7md -- I agree with you completely and I have heard Price, Tebaldi and Callas in house and many others and Millo IMO is the best spinto in the world of opera, it seems to have the best of all of them rolled into one voice.
IMHO Aprile Millo is the best spinto soprano who is performing now.
I own full La Forzas with Renata Tebaldi/Mario Del Monaco/Simionato on vinyl and Leontyne Price/Tucker/Merrill/Verrett on CD.
I am praying for a DVD version with Aprile Millo but with the present economic calamity and the reluctance of the Met and the Decca/DGG/UMG people to release current opera on DVD, I doubt that I will see it. How about an Aix en Provence Festival production?
I absolutely love her phrasing, and control of the breath in this my fav aria of all time. I do love a ballsy voice that is under control. Standing Ovation my dear.
THIS was in Suburban Chicago and somehow I missed it. RAVINIA is beautiful and outside in a great setting on the north shore in highland park but glad my favorite Spinto soprano ever was posted here, WONDERFUL!
The most exhilarating tonal color I've ever heard live. Her "Morro, ma prima in grazia" of "Ballo" I heard in Paris in the early 90s still haunts me. Her stunning technique allows her voice to answer her least wishes as regards the nuances. The greatest verdian soprano of the record era, along with Milanov and Tebaldi.
Her messa di voce in the opening "Pace," avoided by most sopranos is a testament to her solid technique. Her attention and care with the text is exemplary (notice the variations in the three "fatalitá"). Miss Millo ranks alongside Ponselle, Milanov, Tebaldi, Callas, and Price. Bravissima!
Magnificent voice and a magnificent singer, both equally important.

She is good, but she is no Tebaldi - she does not have have her power.
But it is a very good interpretation. Tebaldi was her teacher in Milan.

Brava, the greatest active singer alive today, no doubt. No upcoming sopranos will be able to replace her in the Verdian repertoire.
