  • Eight Belles did win. She won more than any of those colts, and she would've officially won if Big Brown hadn't been drugged up by his cheating owner.

  • FYI there have been 2 horses who won the triple crown since Secretariat, Seattle Slew in 1977 and Affirmed in 1978... Get your facts right...

    RIP Eight Belles! -3

  • Damn! The Illuminati killin horses too! It ain't safe no more!

  • No there hasn't been any horse tht won the triple crown after secretariat others have come close lik barbaro but even more recent Zenyatta she would have been the first filly to win the triple crown but nopee she got beat by..................blaze (I think I'm not sure correct me if I'm wrong)

  • How the heck Big Brown wins the Derby, wins the Preakness...........and then come dead last in the Belmont.

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 if you had follow the whole story you would have found pictures of his shoes getting off just a little after the start. You can actually see that a horse in front of him steped on his shoe, and at that exact same moment Big Brown had a big head movement

But running on that shoe made it replaced it...but not 100% correctly, so it wasn,t really confortable for the horse

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 I don't know Big Brown's heritage and statistics, but alot of horses do that. It's because the Belmont is the longest by far, and some horses(Other than Big Brown's messed-up shoes, this could've applied to him) have the speed for the Derby and the Preakness, but not the stamina for the Belmont.

  • @MemiTehAwesome Oh I knew that and because it's so long, I get anxious watching the horses in any race at Belmont, getting worried about them because I'm just a sucker for horses. That track is just......too damn long! LOL!! but I was just stating the irony of it all. It's just weird he gave everybody a reason to believe that drought would be over but.....once again, you just never know. I just hope one happens before I die! :)

  • These horses are being run to early, and are being inbred like royalty. Short term its "great". Long term can spell the doom of horse at birth.

The need to open up the stud book and allow new blood in, some draft, mustang, or even some "no name" blood lines in if they want to save the sport. They wonder why there have been no Triple Crown Winners since Secretariat!

  • @equarg Secretariat won in 1973, there was 2 others after him in '77 and '78

  • How could he say they couldn't figure out what went wrong?!?!? HELLO!!! they raced her when she wasn't ready for it it's as simple as that! Horses legs aren't fully developed until they are 7 years old...at 3 that's just plain stupid to race them that hard at that young

  • Horse racing is animal abuse.Nothing but a money hungry sport. These owners don't care about the well being of this beautiful animal,Just how much money they will make off it. And when they don't make it. They have them killed. The jockeys beat their young horses. And these horses are also drugged.A horse love to run it is there nature. But not like man wants them too.So if you love going to the races you are taking part in animal Abuse. You are no animal lover. You are a animal Killer.

  • @MarianC44 i see where your coming from but thats not all true, the trainers of these horses actually DO care about their racehorses, and its not really animal abuse if the horses actually enjoy it. like im sure everyone else has said already: its horse against horse, not jockey against jockey. the horses put all their heart into running these races. do some research before you critiscize.

  • Racehorses are obviously over-bred. The only way they can run faster is if:

    - their legs are longer

    - their bones are lighter

And if the specialized cross-breeding to select for these traits is carried too far, you get an animal whose legs are not strong enough to take the pounding involved in all-out running.

Even 'average' racehorses commonly have stress-fractures in the long bones of their legs.

So of course horse racing is a cruel sport.

  • They do steer them, hold them back, hand ride them to encourage them to make their move etc.. Both horse and jockey work together.

  • all that heartache from over a year ago..peta blaming larry jones for belle's injuries..i do believe i saw a world of pain in his eyes! here is the proof.there never was anything wrong with this mighty racehorse..she belonged in the derby..it would diminsh her greatness to say otherwise!if you know anything about horses then u know that they can break a leg in a field! racehorses are born to run!

  • has anyone herd of the racehorse Big Shuffle in the USA ? ? ? if u have thats my horses grandad lol ( < < <sorry about that bit) EB was soooooo beautiful stunning horse and could have been such an amzing racehorse more than what she was when she was alive (sorry if that sounds mean) I LUV EB

  • If you ever watch a horse racing, you will see it is not the jockey making the horse run. They just steer them. The horse races against the others, not the jockeys racing against the other jockeys. Horses love racing. They love everything about it. If you watch a horse running, they act like they enjoy it, they are in their element. Eight Belles died doing what she loved, and horse racing is not an act of cruelty, but I still want to end it, for many horses are fatally injured while racing.

  • excuss me but has any of you seen a horse race before this tragidy? obviously not.. Otherwise, you would catch how the racehorse was born to RUN. Regardless of this tragidy, they will always want to run, because of the pure JOY of Running.. Yes, there is a lot of bad things that happen to these majestice creatures, but let's not forget the nature of these beautiful animals in full flight... Eight Belles- may you rest in peace, and may you keep running in those fields of green grass..

  • 05916080 VERY FUNNY "LOL"

  • what the hell doess that mean

    ?!?!?!?!?

  • Was Laughing at 05916080 Comments to the guy before, as i stated....Thx

  • Put the whores of the mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, girlfriend, wife to go.

    Engage the tail of them.

Racing is cowardice, as well as other events that abuse animals.

    I hate humans.

Especially those idiots who abuse animals.

    Death to all those idiots.

And the gay owner of the Eight Bells.

  • lot of venom there bud. a perfect display of someone who didnt get enough teat from their mother.

  • To be completely honest, horse racing is a vile sport. Lots of these horses are raced too young and pushed beyond their natural endurance levels in order to be made 'fit'. I've had and raised horses for many many years and will never find this sport suitable for any reason.

  • If you died, they'd so one on your sorry ass, wouldn't they???

  • Sinceramente , eu prefiria que a autópsia fosse realizada na buceta e no ânus fedido e podre de sua mãe .

    De sua avó.

    De seu pai.

de sua puta da sua namorada.

    E de você também.

    Seu gay.

    Podre.

    Monstro.

    Você vai queimar no inferno.

  • yeah u are stupid

  • I know it is their job to win..but a filly running against stronger..more muscular colts..is like asking for it..

  • Wow. I am no horse racer so I will keep those to my self. But I did have a question for those expirience..the tape said she had a head injurie? and no fluid in her joints..can you please explain. With all do respect the cituation. I am not here to judge just want to know.

  • She injured her head in the fall after she broke down.

The fluid in a horses joints would suggest they were lame (inflammation).

  • When eight belles fell; if you will recall, she hit her head in the process. The fluid issue is what I believe happened when she boke both legs. This is a normal tissue and muscle situation during this type of injury. Thank you for being respectful...

  • Ever hear of cortisone?? Every horse in the race had injected joints, I would guarantee it!

  • HELLO- Read or listen to the autopsy report. And for your information- NOT all racehorses need this injection.

  • pr babe. :(

  • I loved eight belles! I never saw her race though.

  • tragic..my heart goes to all whom was involved with belle

  • She was really the best. If it hadn't been for Big Brown, she would have won. I mean, she beat 18 colts coming down the stretch. That has mean something.

  • @jljarubas exactly.and she only lost cuz Big Brown was racing on a steroid drug called Winstrol at the time

  • i would chastise you, but I see from your name you're just a lowly worm unworthy of the effort. Slimy and gross and heartless. Above all, worth less than any one of my beef cattle in the herd.

  • Who's Eight Belles?

(I know it's a horse but why so famous?)

  • she was the first filly to run in the Derby since 1999. she was also top-rated and going off of a 4 race winning streak before the Derby

  • Sadly, though, this Derby venture ended when directly after crossing the finish line, fate delivered compound fractures to both of her front ankles and she had to be killed on the spot.

  • can't anybody leave Eight Belles to rest in peace? she did nothing wrong at all, she gave the Derby her best shot and did VERY well.

  • eight belles was the oly mare/filly in the race and she nbeat them all but big brown

  • To respond to oneundergod's comment. She was given Bute, which is an NSAID, similar to Motrin or Aleve. Do you think that popping a Motrin would "numb" you up enough to finish second in the Kentucky Derby? Doubt it.

  • Getitrightsukkah, are you a horse owner? I seriously doubt so bc you know much about the mentality horses have. These animals are bred to run. If they didn't want to run, the jockey would be forced to use the whip the entire race. Do you ever see this? No. These horses want to run. Watch what happens when a jockey falls off a horse; the horse keeps running like nothing happened. And so you know, the whip is an attention getter, it really doesn't hurt the animal like all you PETA folks claim.

  • Also, they are trying to get rid of the whip. Some of the jockeys hate to use the whips.

  • How can anyone avoid a horse breaking it's leg(s)? Hoist it in the air and hope for the best? Come on now...

  • no, you idiot. some motrin would not get her through the race. plus, a vet examines them before they race to make sure there are no pre-existing conditions

  • Eight Belles was not on ANY drugs at the Derby nor any of her other races. NONE. BB did NOT win this race in all honesty. HE was on performance enhancing drugs. Eight Belles wasn't trying to beat a horse, she was trying to beat the damn steroids! SHE won this race in every way. ♥

  • He was on legal steroids. Eight Belles could have also taken them legally, but didn't. Big Brown's party made their choice, and Belle's made theirs. :( Both were real heroes in that homestretch, though. Gallant preformance.

  • Well if he was on legal steroids, then he should still be able to take them. Beings that he is not taking them anymore, that only tells me that she really did win that race. It is sad her biggest rival was not Brownie but drugs. :(

  • those anabolic steroids aren't legal anymore. There's only so much weight a Thoroughbred's legs can support at the speeds they run. This tragedy changed things--made horsemen, breeders and racing's governing bodies all rethink a lot of things: toe-grabs, whip use or limitation thereof, inbreeding, track surfaces, and drug use. I remember in the '90s New York was booed because it was the only state that hosted a Triple Crown race but didn't allow the use of Lasix, which now is allowed.

  • Well said- bytheway, did you choose your username after the beloved filly Ruffian?

She was and still is my all time favorite..

  • so true she was probaly the best horse on the feild that day

but im not going to take any think from big brown

at least she beat 18 other boys

    r.i.p

  • your ignorant, she was on no pain relievers like bute, benzicaine or lidocaine, she was tested free.
