guys look where they are based, the M's engine obviously can't breath as well as the 911's can, down in Southern California, U.S. on PCH or somewhere an M3 DCT will have a C2S PDK up to a certain speed before aerodynamics kick in, more times than not

Lacks power? The M3 has 414hp wheras the carrera 2s has 385. The bimmer needs better power to weight for the straight line. In my opinion however, the M3 is a better all around sports car for its endless adjustability and more focused driving characteristics.

c2s : very good driving experience, good performance but no utility (space for passengers and cargos). The pdk is a must-have. I owned this car last time, without pdk. Get the c4s cabrio better.
M5 : good performance, good driving experience, more utility, but look the same with 520, and 5 series will come out new model soon.
sl63 : More comfort, nice hardtop, good performance, but no utility (still more rooms than c2s), and drinks lots lots of petrol. I ever owned an sl55 amg.

People who love the 911, will always crave the Carrera over the M3, even when the M3 was "improved". One buys a Porsche not because of pure performance, but for the complete package that includes the feel and character of a rear engined car and the heritage that beats within the engine. The Porsche is standard, we have both cars on our hire fleet and the Porsche is much faster than the M3 it feels alot quicker too. When we delivered the car and followed in our M5, the M5 had to work extremely hard just to stay with the Porsche and im speaking from experience
Well I'm speaking from experience as well, no standard Porsche under $100,000 can outrun an M5 in a straight, that is a proven fact. It is also a proven fact that the M3 can post comparable laptimes as the Carrera S while still being cheaper/more practical. So you say it feels much looser to you than the Porsche around corners, which is strange considering the 911's are usually the ones that feel loose in the rear, but according to the test drivers they are about equally fast around test tracks.
If you read my message i didnt say it would outrun the M5. I said the M5 had to work very hard to keep with the Porsche. Not one person has come back after a hire session and said they think the M3 is quicker. I think if you owned both cars you would know what i am talkiing about. I like M3's having owned around 4 of them, but you cant take away the fact that the Porsche is a far superior car. Infact our tuned diesel 335 will stay with the M3 till about 120mph. Can i ask do you own both cars?
I owned an M3 (only 2 weeks) and an M5 before (still have this at the beach), I have never owned a Porsche but my brother had a 997 Turbo for 7 months which I drove on some occasions, my current cars are the M6 for daily use (its in my vids) and a 360 Challenge Stradale for the weekends. My statement has nothing to do with which car is superior to the other, it has to do with performance results, & as far as I can see the Porsche gets better results at straights while the M3 equals it at track.
Well, the m6 and 997.2 turbo were about the same price and the 911 turbo is MUCH, MUCH faster on straights and on the track. They are the two MORE comparable cars given power, weight, and price.
The 911 Turbo goes for nearly 30K more than the M6, and it is much faster on the straights at lower end than a M6 if and only if that M6 isn't equipped with the optional competition package, if it is than they are both fairly equal until about 120-130 miles per hour when an M6 with competition package will gain 0.5s on the Turbo in that interval alone. And yeah the Turbo is faster than the M6 @ track, but the M6 is a grand tourer, it is heavier, and more practical, therefor it is not comparable.
Not the new one bud, 997.2 turbo obliterates any m6 with ease. 0-100 7secs, 0-124mph 10.7secs. Way way faster than any M car, thats before its ecu has been played with.

Carrera S is stock, the M3 is not. 450bhp M3 v 997s 385bhp. Theres only 100kg difference 997s pdk weights 1485kg. M3 1560kg. M3 would have been beaten even more if it was standard.
Lets have it race the M6 in a straight... The old Carrera 2s posted laptimes comparable (even identical in the Top Gear track) to the M5 which is a very heavy sedan, granted this is a huge improvement, but I still don't think it would be as good around a track as the M3.
The new C2 3.6 posted the same lap time as the M3. The C2S 385bhp would kill an M3 on a track. For a start a modded M3 with 450bhp gets left in a wake by the C2s. Its a no contest result.
That's funny considering the 385bhp C2s and the M3 DKG both lapped Tsukuba in the same time. Looks to me like there is contest. Yes the modded M3 lost at a straight which clearly demonstrates that the rear mounted engine position on the 911 does in fact have its benefits. Shorter driveline, better hp application and power transfer, and better aerodynamics. But apparently on the track, all of these aren't making much difference and the M3 is putting up a proper competition.
Let me tell you something, from experience having had both cars and running a performance hire car company the Porsche is much faster and to be fair the M3 feels much looser than the Porsche into corners. Infact i would say it would eat my M5 that we have also overall.

And just for your info, we run a sports car hire company. Being as though we drop these cars off for clients most days, i think we probably have a better idea than most what is quickest and best. We have an M3 on our fleet and to be honest our 335d coupe is nearly as fast point to point.

The Porsche is standard, we have both cars on our hire fleet and the Porsche is much faster than the M3 it feels alot quicker too. When we delivered the car and followed in our M5, the M5 had to work extremely hard just to stay with the Porsche and im speaking from experience

Well I'm speaking from experience as well, no standard Porsche under $100,000 can outrun an M5 in a straight, that is a proven fact. It is also a proven fact that the M3 can post comparable laptimes as the Carrera S while still being cheaper/more practical. So you say it feels much looser to you than the Porsche around corners, which is strange considering the 911's are usually the ones that feel loose in the rear, but according to the test drivers they are about equally fast around test tracks.

If you read my message i didnt say it would outrun the M5. I said the M5 had to work very hard to keep with the Porsche. Not one person has come back after a hire session and said they think the M3 is quicker. I think if you owned both cars you would know what i am talkiing about. I like M3's having owned around 4 of them, but you cant take away the fact that the Porsche is a far superior car. Infact our tuned diesel 335 will stay with the M3 till about 120mph. Can i ask do you own both cars?

I owned an M3 (only 2 weeks) and an M5 before (still have this at the beach), I have never owned a Porsche but my brother had a 997 Turbo for 7 months which I drove on some occasions, my current cars are the M6 for daily use (its in my vids) and a 360 Challenge Stradale for the weekends. My statement has nothing to do with which car is superior to the other, it has to do with performance results, & as far as I can see the Porsche gets better results at straights while the M3 equals it at track.

Well, the m6 and 997.2 turbo were about the same price and the 911 turbo is MUCH, MUCH faster on straights and on the track. They are the two MORE comparable cars given power, weight, and price.

The 911 Turbo goes for nearly 30K more than the M6, and it is much faster on the straights at lower end than a M6 if and only if that M6 isn't equipped with the optional competition package, if it is than they are both fairly equal until about 120-130 miles per hour when an M6 with competition package will gain 0.5s on the Turbo in that interval alone. And yeah the Turbo is faster than the M6 @ track, but the M6 is a grand tourer, it is heavier, and more practical, therefor it is not comparable.

Not the new one bud, 997.2 turbo obliterates any m6 with ease. 0-100 7secs, 0-124mph 10.7secs. Way way faster than any M car, thats before its ecu has been played with.

The Porsche Carrera S weighs 1,455kg and reaches 62mph or 100kph in 4.7 sec. so how can't it be faster than the BMW E92 M3 which weighs 1,675kg?

Carrera S is stock, the M3 is not. 450bhp M3 v 997s 385bhp. Theres only 100kg difference 997s pdk weights 1485kg. M3 1560kg. M3 would have been beaten even more if it was standard.

Lets have it race the M6 in a straight... The old Carrera 2s posted laptimes comparable (even identical in the Top Gear track) to the M5 which is a very heavy sedan, granted this is a huge improvement, but I still don't think it would be as good around a track as the M3.

The new C2 3.6 posted the same lap time as the M3. The C2S 385bhp would kill an M3 on a track. For a start a modded M3 with 450bhp gets left in a wake by the C2s. Its a no contest result.

That's funny considering the 385bhp C2s and the M3 DKG both lapped Tsukuba in the same time. Looks to me like there is contest. Yes the modded M3 lost at a straight which clearly demonstrates that the rear mounted engine position on the 911 does in fact have its benefits. Shorter driveline, better hp application and power transfer, and better aerodynamics. But apparently on the track, all of these aren't making much difference and the M3 is putting up a proper competition.

Let me tell you something, from experience having had both cars and running a performance hire car company the Porsche is much faster and to be fair the M3 feels much looser than the Porsche into corners. Infact i would say it would eat my M5 that we have also overall.

Driver's Republic ran a test not long ago where the new M6 equipped with the new optional ///M Competition Package outran a 997 Turbo and outlaped the R8 so I guess since the M6 with competition package is out in europe it would take out the turbo and Z06 in stock form.

And just for your info, we run a sports car hire company. Being as though we drop these cars off for clients most days, i think we probably have a better idea than most what is quickest and best. We have an M3 on our fleet and to be honest our 335d coupe is nearly as fast point to point.

Yes i agree, and people keep harping on about how unpractical 997's are. Let me tell you ive had one since day dot and ive got most things in it ranging from air con units to garden chairs. It easily accommodates 2 + medium2 and a bootful of shopping. Its not got much less room than my old M3 convertible. Porsche 997 is most usable sports car on the planet.
