  • The real shame is that, in the twenty-first century, in order to get out of the money game most people have to live like this. I live basically the same way, in a small town where all my neighbors enjoy running water (even the toxic waste shit that passes for drinking water), virtually limitless electricity and everything else people consider "civilization". I heat with wood, I drink and clean with rainwater, solar electic. Why? Because I don't play the superfluous and arbitrary money game.

  • I lived for 2 years in a cabin on Crown land. No bills, no money, gathered water, chopped wood, berries, fished. Made my own hydro for lights and radio. Smoked enormous amounts of weed and meditated everyday. Months would go by and I wouldn't see another person (except my girlfriend and our dog). That was over a decade ago, I kinda think I should go back these days.

  • ...but where would I masturbate???

  • @bluemystic7502 ... in a bucket

  • I like the idea, but are you really living for FREE or what others have paid for in some way? I am not against it, don't get me wrong. however to live for free if there is not other choice is OK, but other than that it is really laziness and taking advantage. Living really free would be getting EVERYTHING on your own including food as in hunting. The free life in fact is harder to live but you all are living what others have paid for!

  • The messyness, disorganization and all the sharp colors would indicate a large consumption of... weed?

  • Looks like a nice racially pure village. They better watch out if some multiculti organisation finds them out, the multiculturalist will start importing somalis and arab muslims to "promote diversity" and such.

  • I see that the hippie culture is still alive and flourishing.

Being an old hippie from the 60's, I think this is fantastic!

  • @vigyanashiva So do i! Imagine a world like this, barely anyone survives child birth, no cures to illness, life expectantcy drops to 20, because we're all too busy pissing in a bucket and getting off our heads on drugs.

  • build yourself a gasifier to run a generator and get that to charge a battery bank to supply lighting. Build for next to nothing a rocket mass cob heater. They cost nothing to make and you heat with twigs. All you need is a dirt floor or a cement slab on a wood floor. You don't need cob (hay, sand, clay) You can do it with bricks and sand. You can also set it up to cook and heat your water.

  • You guys would be smart to get some sawdust for your toilet. There will be no smell and it can be used for compost for flowers.

  • From a Pro-standpoint, this actually makes sense. I say this, because, in effect, they're learning how to survive in the world without the convenience of money, or superficial materials. if you think about it, with the economic state of the world, especially in Europe and U.S., how are people going to live without an economic resource available to them (i.e. money)?

These people, whether you believe it or not, are actually taking a proactive approach in this direction.

  • DutchyVegas420 Get Real if you can live with the world not JUST Use it up then i think that person is MUCH Better then Someone that thinks i have to have money to live

  • being homeless by choice is the stupidest idea ever. you know you failed in life as a person by making such a dimwitted decision. They cant even get clean. disgusting.

  • @DutchyVegas420 its not exactly "homeless" as you can see they HAVE homes, they just arent like your homes. they live outside the established system and arent beholden to it. maybe you like your way of life but they like theirs and i can see no reason to be such a judgmental prick about it.

  • @DutchyVegas420 Do you own your own home? No, you know why? Cause on your deed it says tenant. You never own your home so you are paying with your labor to the banks for nothing.

  • Why even look at the video, trolls? Why are people so against doing this? Fuck you you fucking trolls.

  • @AnfoMerc we watched it with the hopes of it being helpful in regards to REAL information related to sustainability or perhaps tips on saving cash; but it turned out that these idiots are just fucking dirty bums

  • this is not eco liveing this is more like - gypsy liveing- is worst to get homeless and really sad .

  • "ahhh,I'll trade you a poem for a bowl of soup." hows about you go fuck yourself with your worthless scribble.

  • how is this "sustainable living" you don't grow anything, you don't produce anything and your biggest accomplishment is men pissing on a hay bale. listening to this girl sounds like I'm listening to my 8 year old niece building a blanket fort behind the sofa, the only difference is my niece KNOWS its make-believe.

  • I envy these people...I want all of humanity to have the joy these people have...

  • wtf is this? Grow plants fools!!!!

  • wtf

  • I see from wiki - on the 27th of May 2010, it was raided by their government and put to an end.

  • I love how people live like this as almost a novelty. When in real struggling parts of the world it's not "in fashion" to live this way, they have to. It's life.

Oh the condescension isn't it lovely.

  • I'm sorry but if you want to live naturally and without money, why don't you do it properly like the Mormons in America? They have no central utilities and don't pay tax, but they also have clean clothes, nice houses, sanitation, and they don't live in a massive dump. That's sustainable, living in a rubbish tip isn't. But then that would require actual skill and desire to work which these people lack.

  • @ivanleo I believe you are thinking of Amish NOT Mormons. Oh and Amish actually have LOTS of cash because the pass on their wealth and homes etc. plus Amish are extremely hard working.....i doubt any of these loafers could hack a day on an amish farm

  • im doing the same....

  • very skanky. she began looking like an old fat gipsy already.

  • it won't be long before they are thrown out english thatcherism!

  • Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that.

  • @IronBuddha80 might wish to pay a bit more attention ... there will come a time when this will be a way of necessary life ... and either you will be part of the solution or part of the problem

  • these are just bums, there are poeple that actually live off the grid, w/o money, and in harmony with nature. These people are just living in a junk yard.

  • This girl is in the early stages of "Crazy Homeless Cat Lady Syndrome". Within a few weeks she will become encrusted with filth. Her many layers of clothes will be covered in cat hair and a nasty body odor. Soon after that urine stains, some are her own, will appear on her ragged clothes. She will begin marking her territory by scribbling with feces on walls. At this point the case is terminal but she may live many years. Its an infection that kills, and the cats will feast on the corpse.

  • @MrJoeVig a sad but true demise. Women are well know for their impeccible cleanliess

  • so they must be fucked over during the snowy weather i couldnt imagine well seems fun, life is all about being happy do what u can while you are on this planet

  • Bet her crotch stinks , she looks dirty

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK THAT BULLSHIT ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • Notice the people are all young & seem reasonably healthy. When they get elderly, most likely they'll have to be moved back into mainstream society to be taken care of. Since they aren't saving for their retirement in any way, they'll become an even bigger financial burden upon society than they are now.

  • @BullToTheShit But they will have a shorter life span, so the cost, at best, is a wash.

  • I was homeless for a few years. I lived in my car in a place like this. And to be honest I was with truthfully the nicest people I have ever known in my whole life. We took care of each other and we also did many of the things seen here. Our time together came to an end when a bunch of rich bastards in their big SUVs came down and attacked us and set fire to our camp and put three people in the hospital. Why? because they didn't like how we lived. They could have killed us and they didn't care!

  • @Shokara2 That is so sad. I'm sorry that happened. <3

  • @Shokara2 rich english shit! are total sub humans. too bad your people weren't trained in martial arts and hoodlum trap making

  • @Shokara2 Seems it's always the rich trampling the poor...I need to escape it all and just live peacefully. On another note, I wish I could donate most of my stuff to these folks. I really don't need it anymore. I have a lot of the things that are up on that board, but I'm in the States and they are clearly in the U.K. My home is up for foreclosure and I don't have a place to take it all to, I'd rather give it all away than let the REO cleanout people have it all. They are getting paid.

  • @Shokara2 who pay'd for your hospital stay? - do you guys make any financial contribution to the state?

I hope their is no benefit claims either?

  • @Shokara2

That's awful!!, but I believe it - black-hearted, greedy and selfish bastards and bitches.

We'll see more homeless especially here in the states, some of which used to be rich bastards.

  • @Shokara2 this is why those kinds of places need volunteer bodyguards, i'd happily apply but i don't live in the UK

  • @whatsgoingon07 Shit mate did you not here on the news not so long a go you could of walked right on in with no one saying a word to you

  • this is what i think:

    marijuana; acid; crack; weed...

people: take a bath and go back to your parents!

  • How is this sustainable? While they do recycle and reuse items that would otherwise be thrown out, they don't farm their own food and they don't generate their own power for things like heat, light or entertainment. And their "village" looks like crap! Just because you want to live an alternative lifestyle doesn't mean that you need to be messy.

I doubt this project will last.

  • I wonder how they kept warm this winter .... Interesting.

  • there will always be a certain type of people that want to live like this. Nobody's advocating it for everyone. Live and let live you judgmental twats.

  • They must stink

  • all those happy people in the councel flats behind your own personal dump

  • Sanitation does not look healthy

  • bit messy but a start.. think positive, they could soon have rocketstoves, cob houses, ecotoilets feeding the veggiegardens, tilestovebakery, sheepmilk, organic clothing, a functioning trading system and good music! lets give them the benefit of the doubt and thereby help them.

we all agree things need to change, we have to learn how to take care of ourselves as a human family without brainwashing structures telling us what's right and wrong.

i pray for them to learn and act as i do 4 us all

  • Lighten up commentors! Hippie chicks are kool. These people are ahead of the curve. When the current economic situation plays itself out were all gonna be livn' Mad Max Styley.

  • where's the

    Weed...?

  • We're back to the Hippies of the 60's, nothing new here apart from talking crap. Why load a vid on you tube you can't see cos you're living off the grid? Or are you? No I notice there'd be a small income off the add you got running! Load of crap.

  • @chas4551 This video was not filmed by the people living there, quit being mean. You don't even have an excuse to talk crap about this video.

  • @LondonPark27 An "excuse" I think you mean I don't need a REASON! I'm not being mean I'm being realistic and stating a fact. Or were'nt you around in the 60s'?

  • @chas4551 That is not what I meant. I was simply saying you were coming for these people for the fact that someone had a video camera to film them calling them fakers, but it wasn't them who videotaped themselves, and I was just pointing out that you are talking merde with no good justification for it.

  • @LondonPark27 And you don't know what you're talking at all, not knowing the difference between a reason and excuse. But you do know the french word for shit! So next time you have one squeeze your head and get it all out!

  • What about medical care? I noticed that most of them are young, and this is the time to be accumulating a retirement fund for when life is not so easy, when pain and fear are just an everyday thing. They are just putting it off until later, have fun, children.

  • Why can't people make an independent village

    ,

    WITHOUT BECOMING SMELLY HIPPIES

KEEP YOUR SHIT CLEAN , WASH YOURSELF

  • Looks like a community of people that choose to live life irresponsibly. Congrats, bums.

  • In America we call these people bums.

  • They call dumpster diving self-sustaining?

    Logic. These people have none.

  • "Honey, I am just taking the rubbish to the ECO-VILLAGE" Sounds better than dump

  • They aren't living without money. Tribal societies in Africa and South America... they are living without money. These people are just living off of western societies scraps. Meaning they are leaching, bums. No honor in that.

  • at 3:01 Karl Pilkington spray painted on your shower

  • Now that's true freedom! This is the way life was ment to be lived!

  • Sustainable? They get their food from donation or the waste of the society they dislike. If everyone switched over to this tomorrow, exactly where would the food come from? Where would the discarded things they build from come from? Sustainable my ass.

  • Hahaha i clicked on the video because of the title and yet i run into an ad the generates revenue for the uploader...hypocrite much?

  • Takes lots of energy to do what you are doing so your not Lazy, or most of you are not lazy i should say.SO, go get jobs for awhile, pool your resources, Buy a Piece of land in a rural area and Learn about Real sustainable Living from Eco conscious groups who have been dong it for a long time. For now you look kinda like refugee squatters & property values are plummeting around you and your neighbors will eventually seek civic intervention and your bubble will burst...

  • @MrToddG123 That's the problem. Most people who have, don't want anyone else to have.

As long as they aren't polluting (like megacorp) who are they hurting ?

  • @sean1973x2009 You have to consider peoples Perception. While they may not actually be hurting anyone ( not physically) This type of gathering is perceived by the permanent residents as Undesirable for its affects on the community. Some Fear the homeless even if that fear is unfounded. People looking to buy real estate go elsewhere, they do not want to buy in an area where they perceive young children may be at risk Look beyond the surface and you start to see Why people do not like this way

  • @MrToddG123 Good points.

    I concur.

  • That sounds fucken awesome :)

  • who is making money of this vid with a fucking commercial advertisement? Scum of the Earth money grubbing ads! You worshippers of Mammon, may you rot in hell!

  • Reminds me of the Manson family. Where's Charlie?

  • 810 people like the Charles Manson song "Garbage Dump"

  • how are you living off the land...you get everything that someone else has paid for...an ECO village seems like a load of people that think they have opted out, but are in fact reliant on what someone else has used money to pay for..you seem to be more like well organized tramps.

  • Comment removed

  • I think the idea of the Eco-village is a good one. However, I think if you show that you are clean and neat people will take you seriously. I know you all may not care what other people think or you wouldn't be doing this. However, I do think it can work. Good luck on your venture. :)

  • what a beautiful place! friendly, honest people acting without frustration and hate. so what if they eat "garbage"? were you gonna eat it? so what if they dont wear cologne and pefume. thats fake smell anyway. i think you nasty commentors deep down wish you werent the robots you are and could go live in a tent or tipi with nice creative people. if not, build your bombs, hate and yell and die of heart attack at age 35. this place is beautiful. so are the people. your condo is a glorified prison.

  • @eskimonox the problem my dear is that if you tout yourself as ECOVILLAGE and shout about SUSTAINABILITY you should at least be DOING one of those claims! if you want to live like a bum by eating scrapes like an old buzzard, just don't act all smug about it like you're "saving" the planet

  • Comment removed

  • ANYBODY THERE FROM SALT SPRING ISLAND BC, IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE ARE A LOT OF HIPPIES IN DA HOUSE

  • I think some people out in the country should donate some land for you guys. Live off the land and be with nature. Citys are unsustainable. Be the alternative, get out of the alley and dont eat the food that stores throw away. Free yourselfs!

  • These people are living off the rest of us if we all lived like this there would be no free stuff to pinch from bins. Were is the fruit & veg garden the chickens, pigs and bees thats proper sustainabilaty this lot are just free loading scum...

  • The video is titled "How to live without money." These people ARE living off of money, just not their own. They have very little, to nothing that is sustainable. Call these people what you like, but the reality is: They are BUMS. Inner city bums. The place looks like shit, they look like shit & probably smell like shit too.

These lazy bums are a black-mark on sustainable, and off-the-grid living movement. Why live in London, you bums? Oh cause thats where the free shit is. You hypocrite bums.

  • @pgbruiser You are right, they are lazy bums. I don't see anybody working to produce either food or other goods

  • @pgbruiser

shut up, you got problems then you suport bums to live in nice places with things. Alot of famous folks in history came from below the government scope

  • @pgbruiser anyone has the right to live like he wants.. i would give them a sewage.. this in the only thing they need.. and a shower maybe.. :) overall is a preety good idea.. :)

  • @pgbruiser Better than working at McDonalds.

  • @pgbruiser I have to agree. Poetry, cinemas, and other things of that nature should come wayyyyy behind gardening, keeping livestock (or just chickens), someone should be the fisherman, etc. I didn't see anything sustainable at all. Don't go "skipping" when you can garden! I mean, I understand at first you have to do what you have to do, but with that many people you could whip a garden plot into shape in no time. But be warned...it does take WORK. Because living takes WORK.

  • @pgbruiser "How to live without money" --- "Why live in London, you bums? Oh cause thats where the free shit is." and?

  • @pgbruiser why would you say that? yes they are homeless but they are normal people like you please explain how they are bums?

  • Begging for survival is not survival itself! If you really want to make a statement get a tent and a knife and hit the woods!

  • Чё такой бардак у них?)) Лентяи)

  • These people are just in Poverty, stop trying to make it seem so revolutionary. People embrace the situational implications they have created, essentially making the best of it, but by no means are these people brilliant for living in huts made out of feces or whatever.

  • no wonder all the Plagues come from EU ... this is just fucking nasty

  • @SupaNami LOL. Do you predict a "new age" pestilence?

  • Does a hobo shit in the woods?

  • @gokramer2 nope .. shits on the streets and then walks in it

  • i walk past this place and its a dump. want to live sustainabley then look to the wild and the woods.

  • I hate this Kind of Liberal Hippies they're Bum's

    Homeless Village.

  • their sincere efforts trump any negativ comments u haters can post. YOU are destroying your own environment with your addictive consuming habits, these people are at least "trying" to form an alternative. Neoliberal capitalist economics is insane, they are the needy ones with nothing but money to fill the empty hole af their self esteem.

  • Is that a mary jane plant @2:44? lol

  • I do give them some respect for at least making more of an effort than I do myself though...

Wonder when the bulldozers will move in and obliterate the squatter camp? Surely people can't just put up a womble village anywhere they like?

  • Living off rubbish is not self sustainable. Over ambitious is the road to ruin, but fuck me there must be more of a middle ground than becoming a fucking Womble

  • @VapoVibes promoting the Scavenger culture is good for the environment , problem with the metropolis domination of life is that too much is wasted .

  • This is quite moronic. This isn't self sustaining at all. If you note, everything they have are things made by industrial society. Basically, they're living as leaches. Now, if they move into the woods with the shirts on their back, start flint knapping and learn to live off the land, then I might be impressed.

  • I hope they don't Breed!!.

  • WTH!!!! are they for real? I feel sorry for these homeless people saying they choose this.

  • Those peaple might be the true preppers of what everyone is about to face! So they might be ahead of there time! Let peaple live there own lives.

  • @rednecklowlife yes...its coming.

  • Someone grab the Slayer CD! THE TUUNES WHERE's THE TUUUNES MAN!!!

  • GOD I HATE HIPPIES!!!! Dumbest fucks on the planet this is in no way living off the grid and sustainable.

  • @McGovern1981 No, and most of them have no delusions that they are truly living off the grid. but they are consuming far less than you are, have a miniscule carbon footprint compared to the average suburb commuting, suv driving, mall crazed, self-absorbed jerk. i give them props for living conscientiously and i give you two middle fingers for hating on people that didn't do a damn thing to you.

  • Just a dirty hippie camp

  • what happends when the scraps and water stop, marshal Law is implimented and we are all in the same boat then what will happen to your ECO village?

  • so now that the laws governing sell by dates have been changed to prevent the sort of food wastage that these bums survive on, what next? perhaps instead of planning concerts they should plant some veggies and buy some livestock. Have some goods they can exchange for other services... plus, where is all their shit going? just into a hole in the ground, very sustainable...

  • wow this is getting close to Utopia!! No money for me equals Utopia. Money is the root to all evil

  • well, i think jobs under capitalism are stupid and unfulfilling---but i think we have responsibility to share this kind of "lifestyle" with everyone. not everyone can drop out of society, but we can create sustainability and freedom for creativity and expression on a wider, societal scale.

  • @luvfinger not gripes, observations that any child could make.

They arent doing anything here that hasnt already been done in communes a million times over. Eventually they all collapse for various reasons.

  • One day, caveman make axe. Axe kill goat. Give goat to for land.

  • Pretty much the same as those shacks in Africa..

  • See, this would be cool.. This would all work out if these people would just go find jobs.. Even if part time.. This way, they wouldn't have to pay for anything, but they would have to choice to, if they wanted.

However, from the sounds of it, everyone either lost or quit their job. Not really agreeing with it.

  • I'd rather live in the warm woods of North California. This place looks rainy, soggy, misty and sickly. But a great idea fr warmer climates, I've seen people in North California do it.

  • Communes have been tried before, all eventually collapse for various reasons.

In any case this is not self-sustainable living if they are mooching off their capitalist surroundings.

  • Maybe they should get some consulting gigs in Vietnam or Haiti and hold conferences on how to live without money. I am sure their great wisdom would be appreciated by the natives.

  • @pjmyou That was exactly what i was thinking in between bouts of laughter. Fact is sure you can do it a while but then you want the comforts. Now that said we dont need all that we have.

  • so you own that land? where is the electricity coming from? running water, where is that poo going to go? what if you couldn't mooch off of stores, and they donated to actual homeless people? i agree to reuse stuff when you can, but this is more like a squatting thing. if you can do this without society around you, then you have something.

  • VERY usefull video. Thanx uploader. Greece here. Living in same shit.

  • Yap, bums can live with out money. I just don't want to be a bum.

  • looks alot like camping, in the middle of a dump

  • I have managed it 47 days in a row without touching my weenie. Let's see how far can you hippies go without touching a real pillow.

  • half the people in this video have posh accents! and are what i wouldm call toffs! also i did not see a hospital in this village which means they are using my bloody hospitals!

  • These people really suck at making money and they pretend that living in poverty is a moral choice they make. They're a bunch of fools and moochers.

  • Stupid dirty hippies

  • how to live without money? go to jail.

  • 4:05 is the perfect example of how disgusting their situation and lifestyle really is...

  • These people are pathetic. They are lazy, dirty, un-educated, self-riteous and foolish.

For a very small amount of money, you can set yourself up entirely in a true self reliant system. These people are scavangers, nothing more. There is nothing self-reliant here at all, they are living off the scraps of the society around them.

  • This is the stupidest form of idealistic, hippie assholery bullshit I've ever seen. People are now dumber now having listened to these people.

  • These people are basically homeless and refuse to admit it. Its not so eco-friendly as it's just basic requirements of living, but in a communal way. Effective for sure.

  • This video is proof that global capitalism produces squatter hippy filth. None of this shit ever existed in the USSR, but there's plenty of this trash all over the "free markets." Throw these hippies in factories!

  • Try getting some land so you can grow your own food, get some milk cows. Move out of the city. I think you guys would enjoy it more that way anyway. Of course then you would have to work. Thus the end of your community.

  • yeahevery large city has one of these place;s there called tent city..made up of homless people skids...

  • We used to call these places slums. I guess the third world was way ahead of the game. Who would have thunk it? I'll keep my toilet, thank you. Is hard work really that bad?

  • @10rupeejezail Yes actually it is when you realize that by creating your life around possessions and material things you sacrifice the simple joy of existing above such shallow and unnecessary things. just stop to think for a while about WHY you "need" a job and a new car, and a big house to keep all of your things in.

  • after 3 minutes into this video, I decided...that i did not want to see the kitchen the girl was about to show. Honestly, you don't need to be a stinky bum or look like one to create alternative ways of living far away from capitalism and this "culture" of spending, producing and spending. Some of the posts featured here will help you get out of your "cool" "alternative" way of living that, on the other hand, many millions of people in this world are forced to live.

  • There's a lot of low-cost ways to improve their standard of living. Black paint on PVC tubes would make a solar water heater. I've seen wood-gas power a small engine (lawnmower or rototiller) that connects to a car alternator and a bank of batteries to create a power system. Keeping chickens for eggs and goats for milk would help, too. If they talked to a good prepper or watched some youtube videos they could get the knowledge they really need.

  • i bought land for myself for $4500. going to dig a well, plant a garden, and build a house by myself out of strawbales, old barnwood, and earthen and lime plasters. i'll have a few goats and some chickens. i have almost everything i will need for my house, just by trading off things i won't be using anymore out there - in total, i may spend $2000 on my house (aside from what i've traded...guitars, tv's, etc). so for $6500, they could live a lot more "sustainable," and less like bum leaches.

  • @rayzrbern the government still owns it!! no taxes at the end of the year, it will be taken!!

so I suggest you look into alloidial titles.

  • @rayzrbern America isn't like Europe.

In my country in Europe we have laws that decide where you can build and what you can build.

Aside from that there is the fact that land is expensive here.

Land is so scarce here that we actually took back a huge portion from the sea lol.
