This advertising agency also made "le placard", "La marche de l'empereur" and "Le secret de brockeback mountain" for Canal+. I don't think it was played in Canada.

Well, think of it from the director's point of view. This is a commercial for a movie service, and the person (or in this case, rug) wants to make movies after watching some. What's always in front of a television? A rug, usually. But making the audience connecting with a faceless rug is forcing it, so a bear rug is the choice because it has a face. And people usually remember bizarre things, so they remember Canal+. They wouldn't remember if it was just a guy.
