Wow! Sister Rosie Haynes and Vernard Johnson were the pioneers that led the way for gospel saxophones. When I heard both of these legends I immediately knew what instrument I was suppose to play. Thank God for You Tube for preserving these legends. I now live in Phoenix and really miss Sister Haynes playing in person. Thank you Sister Haynes for staying true to the gift God placed in you.

Evangelist Haynes plays a Selmar Sax with Selmar mouth piece and a LaVoz #2 or 2 1/2 reed.

She says it depends on how much wind you use to blow for the reed.

I have vinyl of Gene Martin at the Haynes Temple COGIC from the early 70's which includes some tracks featuring her wonderful voice & sax playing, as well video of Bro. Sylvester Haynes & The Haynes Singers from the 60's singing "Peace Be Still" at Rev. A. A. Allen's campmeeting. I'll get around to uploading it someday. Their mother was an amazing vocalist as well!!
