@tapetedepadaria Haha, I don't own a Master System, but I'd play it if I did. I doubt if I'm great enough to pull it off. I've always had a really tough time with R-Type and R-Type II. =)
Great video, and my first time actually seeing all of stage 7 and 8. I played the crap out of this game back when it was up for grabs on the Virtual Console but I could never get past stage 7.
I've been playing this game on my PSP for over a year. Amazing fun, totally takes me back to my Sega days :-)
I'm stuck at the second spawn point on this level, bare, no power-ups or anything. I haven't watched your entire video because I don't want to spoil the ending for myself, because I DO plan on beating it, somehow, lol!
So this is the last level? Wow, so proud of myself!
@ryanmetheral The beginning of the video is stage 7. The stage with the black background is stage 8 - the final stage. I did a video in R-Type Dimensions where I played stages 7 and 8 starting without power ups if you're interested in seeing that.
wow, nice skills! i used to play this game years ago and it was sooo effin hard. i never beat it, so hats off to ya! although that final boss was a little dissapointing considering all the other epic bosses in the game haha
@PearlJamm Not a whole lot of skill involved in the boss battles here though. You should check out my stage videos from R-Type Dimensions - more fun and hectic.
Well done. Now get there without using level selects or whatnot. Stage 7 is as far as my friend and I could get on my coin op R-Type (RIP). For the longest L5 was my brick wall, and then I got to L6. Then the L6 boss was a brick wall. I figured out the pattern thing, and my buddy managed to outlast the boss run. We got to the point in L7 where the seemingly non-stop line of enemies comes down 2 by 2 mid level. We could never make it that far with 2 Bits and a Force, so we'd get creamed.
No cheats. I did the same thing on Dimensions... starting bare in this stage. The only thing I did here was get all my powerups and then use stage select to get back to stage 7.
perfect run.. didnt know stage 7 boss could be defeated like that, probably because it seems impossible for me to get back to boss room after 1 death, not enough darn power-ups.
I always found the story of R-Type to be rather interesting, despite most of the games except for Final and Tactics that actually touch on the narrative of the storyline, where as most of the other titles are fairly quiet about what's going on. But once you do read the story, its pretty compelling, and depressing as can be. "Humans of the 26th century abandoned a horrible weapon in space. It has come back to haunt us in the form of the Bydo Empire." - R-Type Final.
I agree. R-type has one of the most depressing plots in video games. In tactics, some of the bydo you are encountering are transformed humans that just want to return to earth.
Ever since I played RTT and RTF, I've felt that R-Type has one of the best examples of story in a video game. This is stacked up against the garbage games that come out today and ram their lame story down your throat with 20-45 minute cut scenes. R-Type just hints at what happens and forces you to think about it (or not), but the gameplay remains stellar, proving that it's a game first, and makes it worth every penny you paid for it.
And yeah, R-Type pilots always suffer the worst fates.
Yeah, those pilots are hardcore crazy. I cannot imagine if that type of piloting if it were real. The hand-eye coordination would be insane, I guess it would be something akin to how we play R-type. You dont think and look, you just do. But yeah, the story is very good, but it's really underrated. That's okay, it's not a story that needs to be turned commercial.
R-Type pilots have alternately been trapped in Bydo universes, sealed into Bydo and used in the next game, got out entirely unscathed(other than being a Bydo) and invaded earth(R-type Final stage F-B).
I wonder who wrote the storyline for the series? And decided to make the Pilots a bunch of kamikaze, space sick, depressed shooter fanatics has got some issues.
I challenge you to do the same on Master System!

Pretty intense playing. If this is played without any cheats or slowdowns... Then you really got some skills!

Is there any way to get thru Stage 7 and the last stage without barely any power ups? I'm on stage 7 right now and can't even get thru the beginning!

Except the Museum Entry on the Bydo System a says it was shot down and what they learned from it lead to the B series of fighters.
