choice is good. choice is great. and the galaxy s variants are made so people can buy galaxy s phones that will fit their budgets. i chose samsung (ace) bec it has the features at the price i can afford, LOL.
also, after decades of suffering from a political dictator, i have developed an aversion against being told what i can and cannot do, including 'i can't have adobe flash'. either i turn my back on, or kick such, a dickwad who tells me so in the balls. ;D
Just because he said no apple fan boy's posting stuff about android but I think it is ment to be both ways. If you don't like apple fine but make your comment constructive don't just hate apple because of the price or the fanboys!
I am using the Samsung Vibrant 2.2 But I do not like that samsung takes their time with updates..................... But I DO love my phone its so fluffy and pretty!
Well I gotta say that the android I was most comfortable with and have had to experience with is the nexus one. It was the end all be all. Perfect in every way. But I had the first gen. I.e. G1, mytouch, and comet, the closest I've ever gotten to a super smart phone is the mytouch 4g and the sidekick 4g.. Which btw I don't approve it's like getting used to htc sense UI for the first time after coming from vanilla.. It's gross. But I'm an android through and through. Can't wait for the LG Prime.
I am an Android user, mostly because I am not an average consumer. When I am in the market for a phone,I want one such as my Motorola Droid 3 which is totally customizable. Now,no offense to iPhone users, but I find iOS quite bland and though it has a very large app catalog, I don't get the full experience that I do on Android. In the end,I think Android choices aren't overwhelming to the average consumer, but makes the decision harder to narrow down because of all the great devices to choose from
more choices in devices i like. however at the sometime it worries me that the company doesn't have to man power to release updates to all said devices quick enough. like i who a epic 4g and have yet to get gingerbread and it was part of the flag ship device line.
I like that you actually have a entry level device when choosing an Android phone. Also, I don't really get the to much choice thing'a'ma'jig… I NEVER use less than a week to decide what phone to buy.
I love my iPhone because, its stylish, popular, has the best apps, has a built in iPod and since its jail broken I can do near enough everything that all the other phones can do :)
... Or you could just get an iPhone! But seriously if I were to get an Android device, It would be the Samsung Galaxy S line. and the Dragonball Z reference comes from watching too much Smosh vids!
android phones are super annoying , not because of their names , but because if you buy a phone now , a new improved version of that model is gonna be released in 2 weeks
I don't get confused with android phones. But take me to a supermarket.. Jeeeeezz why is there a shelf full of deodorant / toothpaste / anything else?!! All these different brands claiming the exact same things :O
Nah, androids simple in comparison. They kinda fall into categories:
The best: Dual core phones
The good: Snapdragon Phones
The budget: 600-800 pre snapdragon phones with enough ram :P
Samsung are already preparing an update to override the infringed patent which was actually PART of stock/normal android, not something samsung themselves implemented. Apple are just too scared to sue Google
Too much choice? Fuck naw, more choice equals more personalization, competition, and thus innovation. Sure the one size fits most model of the iPhone works well, but you can't argue that it fits ALL, and some are equally or more happy with some other phone like a BB, WP7, WebOS, Android, etc. The Droid X fits me well with the huge screen and I like the feel of Android more than others personally. Why take away choice for the sake of the indecisive and cost to many others? Banning Sammy is dumb!
Wow you ever tried these phones???? Ginger bread just basicly comes with way better then most like htc phones come with some cool stuff and those other phones have cool stuff samsung is smart enough to "borrow" there stuff and put it in one!
Lamarr your retarded. Samsung DOES have a lot of phone but the only phones that matter are the ones for YOUR carrier. For Ex, ATT only has the Infuse 4g and the Captivate. Thats only two choices that are exactly 1 year apart in release dates. So whats so different than the iphone??? The iphone has a new phone out for ATT every year. Also, ATT has the iPhone, iPhone 3G, Iphone 3GS, iPhone 4, and Soon iPhone 5. Thats a lot more than Samsung's only two Android devices for ATT.
Yeh I agree Lamarr. I like to think of myself as a very techy person, constantly updating myself about whats out there, and reading blogs and subscribed to lots of different tech youtubers, but I still have NO idea whats going on with android. I've owned a Nokia for the past few years, so while I am familiar with Android because I grab any chance I get to play around on friends phones and what not, if I went to buy one today... I would have no idea where to even start.
So confusing with all those different versions? Jeez....personally, I haven't upgraded to a smartphone because My Motorola RAZR2 V9x does what it needs to do.
i hate samsung fones i had about 3 went i switched to a htc fone it was so much better the built quality call quality and interface is much better on htc fones so dey can call dere fones what ever dey want i aint gnna buy ne
I love my android Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate. But I'm not really an "average" user, and I'm currently running Cyanogen Mod 7... so I'm probably getting a better experience than most people with the phone. I love that there is choice, but I recently it seems that all the new android phones are becoming more and more similar to each other. Basically all the flagship phones have the same stats, and can do the exact same things. So it's a bit excessive, yes.
there are way too many android phone names but the flagship devices stand out. most people i know know what the evo and the galaxy devices are. all the other android devices to me are just spin offs of the flagship to offer the smartphone like experience at a decent price.
I thought at 0:13, you were going to make an earthquake reference. I was almost hoping, because this is probably the most publicity that my county has ever had.
thats why i switched to iphone, there was too many android phones coming out everyweek, so i jumped ships and now i just have to wait every year for a new one
Everyone has a different opinion on what phone they want, iOS, android, or blackberry its what you want not what others tell you to want. Also rockin a rooted EVO 4G with a custom Rom and kernel.
@HollywoodLights1992 There's been plenty of studies done that prove when you give someone too much choice they're less likely to choose anything, and feel guilty or like they made the wrong decision if they do choose something. They do this kind of thing in supermarkets all the time. If you see a load of different kinds/brands of a certain item for a few weeks, then only see a few at some later point. Thats a good indication they did exactly the same experiment! Look out for it, it happens a lot
@HollywoodLights1992 nope, Its because android users say that iphone users are dumb because a iphone is simple and you have to do everything the hard way on android.
I'm sure it may be confusing to some, but I honestly don't care. The thing is I don't HAVE to keep track with all of them. I just want the flagship devices. And I'm sure that's the case for many.
@6Wul0Won That's a problem in and of itself. There's so many "flag ship devices". It depends which brands "flag ship" you want, or which carriers, or which week of the year it is. There's a new one coming out every other week, the flag ship now will be old news a few weeks down the road as a new flag ship device comes out to replace it. It's insane!
I have a Samsung Replenish. It's an android phone with a qwerty keyboard and a solar panel to keep the charge up when you're outside. I have to say that I'm really happy with it, because I have the versatility of a touch screen, but also the qwerty cause I hate touch screen keyboards.
What are you people talking about? Android is basicly the same on all the devices, beter devices will run it much nicer and faster so its hardware that makes the differance. If you want an excellent android phone just buy galaxy s II, htc sensetion and others in that price range. Like win7, a duo 2.6 proc wil run it faster then a pentium m 1.4
@mote939 Is that your main and only reason? Most of the phones out there have similar specs so you should worry more about if the software (Android) is right for you.
@SunnySinghTV Maybe i should rephrase myself: My reason for liking iphones: ... etc.
See i don't really care about the software since all these companies are always trying to be the best so they'll eventually copy each other (a good example is the new slide down menu coming in iphone 5, copied from android). But i really hate when you buy a phone and then 2 months later it is suddenly old, no matter what phone it is.
@mote939 What is considered "old?" If it still works and looks good, what's wrong with it? I usually upgrade my phone every 2 years or so (when my contract expires), I don't care how "out of style" my phone may be, as long as it's running the latest software and gets what I need done.
@SunnySinghTV By old i mean, when someone says iphone 4 everyone knows what they're talking about. But when someone says HTC thunderbolt most people (I was one of them) will go like ? And they will have no idea what you're talking about untill you say that it is a phone that was released X months ago. And then some of them start to remember. (Now i don't know if thuderbolt is old or not or even if it is a htc model, i just used the name as an example).
@mote939 Well see, I don't find that to be all that important and I don't think that you should worrying about that type of stuff more than if the phone does what it's supposed to do and fits your needs. Apple markets their products well, and so people know what an iPhone is. That does not make it a good or bad product though.
Yes, Android is way too biased in my opinion. I own a Desire HD but for me, picking the "perfect" Android phone is just way too painful. Oh this Android phone does this and this, and that one does that while each of them has it's own weakness. While the iPhone buyers just buy a single phone. Because they simply do not have any other option, but a single phone that covers it all (might not be in a 5 stars out of 5 in all fields but it worked).
@yukikaze8721 So basically you're saying that one choice, the iPhone, which has its own weaknesses and may not be best for everyone is better than having many choices of phones that will allow you to find a phone best for you?
I'm an Apple fangirl and I know how annoying we can be BUT. Android was simple and clean when it first came out. I kinda liked it a tad more than my iPhone. BUT NOW THEY JUST ALL OVER THE MOTHERLICKING PLACE. Thank you and goodnight.
I currently have a Motorola Devour (The worst phone I've owned by far) and my contract is nearly up. Thinking about the Samsung Galaxy S2 or an HTC Thunderbolt. Anyone have any suggestions?
I LOVE THE DROID LINE, I went from the Droid 1 to the Droid X and now to the Droid 3. I have loved everyone!!! I really want a 4.3 inch screen with a slide out keyboard. 4 inch is okay for me, but I love 4.3. Some say it's over kill, but it's right for me since I'm a big guy.
too many andriod devises ... yeah, confusing names ... yeah, to many models ... yeah, have your phone for not a long time before a replacement model released .. yeah, whats the average for a new android device 3,4 maybe 5 months, and apple comes out with a new iPhone (so far) once a year, an android device costs around £200-£300 and a iPhone 4 costs £500 all on pay and go (ignoring contract BS) you save money getting an iPhone than you do getting the latest andriod if you were to get every new 1
No offense Lamarr, but I have really never seen one of these "average consumers". The people you describe as average consumers seem a lot more like my grandparents than the average 18-40ish year old. You really don't have to be a "tech person" to understand the differences between phones.
I can think of a handful of friends that I have that barely know anything about smartphones that have a particular Android phone they want over any other Android phone for reasons that matter to them.
@zsmorr92 I see these people all of the time. Why do you think there are so many people with iPhones XD I keed. People end up just choosing one. I have friends that think their android phones are better than my iPhone just because the screen is bigger.
I use a (Google) Samsung Nexus S. I just love this phone, but i'm not a fanboy. I RESPECT ALL iOS, WP7, SYMBIAN, webOS AND OTHER OS USERS! AND YOU SHOULD TOO FANBOYS, SHAME ON YOU!

I think that different levels of Android phone is great. Google really dominates the lower, less powerful end of the smartphone market.
sporkafife 6 months ago
I'm sure it may be confusing to some, but I honestly don't care. The thing is I don't HAVE to keep track with all of them. I just want the flagship devices. And I'm sure that's the case for many.
6Wul0Won 6 months ago
@6Wul0Won That's a problem in and of itself. There's so many "flag ship devices". It depends which brands "flag ship" you want, or which carriers, or which week of the year it is. There's a new one coming out every other week, the flag ship now will be old news a few weeks down the road as a new flag ship device comes out to replace it. It's insane!

There are a lot of android phone- the issue is too many skins
Google should limit the variations they allow

These naming schemes sound stupid to me too, but Samsung is to blame not Android.
I do think choice is good though, the more competition out there the better the device I can find.

My reason for not liking android:
You buy an iphone --- It lasts about a year until the next model.
You buy an android phone ---- You see a new better version about a month later. And your newly bought phone is out of date suddenly.
mote939 6 months ago
@mote939 Is that your main and only reason? Most of the phones out there have similar specs so you should worry more about if the software (Android) is right for you.
SunnySinghTV 6 months ago
@SunnySinghTV Maybe i should rephrase myself: My reason for liking iphones: ... etc.
See i don't really care about the software since all these companies are always trying to be the best so they'll eventually copy each other (a good example is the new slide down menu coming in iphone 5, copied from android). But i really hate when you buy a phone and then 2 months later it is suddenly old, no matter what phone it is.
mote939 6 months ago
@mote939 What is considered "old?" If it still works and looks good, what's wrong with it? I usually upgrade my phone every 2 years or so (when my contract expires), I don't care how "out of style" my phone may be, as long as it's running the latest software and gets what I need done.
SunnySinghTV 6 months ago
@SunnySinghTV By old i mean, when someone says iphone 4 everyone knows what they're talking about. But when someone says HTC thunderbolt most people (I was one of them) will go like ? And they will have no idea what you're talking about untill you say that it is a phone that was released X months ago. And then some of them start to remember. (Now i don't know if thuderbolt is old or not or even if it is a htc model, i just used the name as an example).
mote939 6 months ago
@mote939 Well see, I don't find that to be all that important and I don't think that you should worrying about that type of stuff more than if the phone does what it's supposed to do and fits your needs. Apple markets their products well, and so people know what an iPhone is. That does not make it a good or bad product though.

Luls the average consumer you describing is the average IPhone user. Flame suit activated. Seriously though for Android I would say GS2 or Photon.
Subrised you didn't discuss the WSJ article discussing IPhone to Sprint in October.

Yes, Android is way too biased in my opinion. I own a Desire HD but for me, picking the "perfect" Android phone is just way too painful. Oh this Android phone does this and this, and that one does that while each of them has it's own weakness. While the iPhone buyers just buy a single phone. Because they simply do not have any other option, but a single phone that covers it all (might not be in a 5 stars out of 5 in all fields but it worked).
yukikaze8721 6 months ago
@yukikaze8721 So basically you're saying that one choice, the iPhone, which has its own weaknesses and may not be best for everyone is better than having many choices of phones that will allow you to find a phone best for you?

I'm an Apple fangirl and I know how annoying we can be BUT. Android was simple and clean when it first came out. I kinda liked it a tad more than my iPhone. BUT NOW THEY JUST ALL OVER THE MOTHERLICKING PLACE. Thank you and goodnight.

Nexus phones in my opinion are the best of android
MrSiad123 6 months ago
No offense Lamarr, but I have really never seen one of these "average consumers". The people you describe as average consumers seem a lot more like my grandparents than the average 18-40ish year old. You really don't have to be a "tech person" to understand the differences between phones.
I can think of a handful of friends that I have that barely know anything about smartphones that have a particular Android phone they want over any other Android phone for reasons that matter to them.
zsmorr92 6 months ago
@zsmorr92 I see these people all of the time. Why do you think there are so many people with iPhones XD I keed. People end up just choosing one. I have friends that think their android phones are better than my iPhone just because the screen is bigger.
